This place is amazing. Make sure not to hike in flip flops. I witnessed someone falling off the ladder because they did it in flip flops. This hike is kid friendly. The second ladder needs fixed. They charge you $8 to hike it and an additional $1 per hiker to process your card. So it's really $9....so dumb but the hikes worth it.

Had a wonderful hike with our family. Park for free and pay $8 per person for entrance. We went up both ladders and continued beyond the area where groups gather to play in the pool and slide down the waterfall/rock slide. We went probably another 0.5 miles up the creek -- probably the most scenic parts of the slot canyons with vertical walls and amazing colors and we had it all to ourselves. The ladders were tricky but manageable -- we had an adult go up and down right below our youngest (8 and 9). The ladder steps were placed fairly widely so it helped to have someone close to help with foot placement. We were there mid-July and enjoyed the cool water -- everyone was fine in water sandals (e.g, Keens)

Hard. In 112 degree heat wouldn’t recommend.

Loved this hike! So beautiful and peaceful!! Bring water shoes!! Water is cold but refreshing! Pretty slippery too! We trail ran on the way back! Very easy! I don’t know how people bring small kids to hold though, I needed both hands to hold myself up in rocks and getting up the ladder! Very nice to take your time and enjoy the stream and waterfall!

Awesome hike, not sure when it ends though.

Our group ranged in age from 4 to 69, avid hikers to couch potatoes and everyone LOVED it!!! We all would do it again!

One of the most beautiful hikes/places Iv seen. It’s a must do, I recommend starting the hike no later than 6am. You’ll see sunrise and avoid any heat!

great hike, did it with my 5 year old.

stop at the sweet spot for pan it and drinks.

one of the most beautiful alpine lakes. unfortunately has been discovered by too many people.

Gorgeous!

The first couple of miles on this trail are fully exposed with little or no shade. Therefore, I suggest starting as early as possible to avoid the heat of the day. The lakes themselves are amazing - definitely worth the effort.

This was maybe one of the most fun hikes I’ve done to date!!

Question: has anyone day hiked this? Thoughts?

Fairly easy and nice long walk

Started at 730am and finished the whole loop and were back to the car by 2:30pm. We took our time and had lunch at Black Lake. We went counter clockwise around the loop and saved the best for last but it was all so beautiful! Not an easy hike, especially in one day but totally worth it! Much warmer temps in the beginning and is cooler around the lakes. Lots of water and stunning views! Cant wait to go back and hike in and camp!

My attempt at this trail ended with me returning before the lakes. Started late around 2pm and returned to the trail head by 8:30pm for a total of 1900+ feet elevation gain. My fault for not having altitude training before hand.

The trail is well defined and has spectacular views, this trail makes for a very nice swim location and starting point for the Palisades Peak.

I recommend doing this trail counter clockwise so you save all the fun stuff till the end!

Absolutely amazing! Breathtaking and worth every step!

One of my favorite trails!

This is a great hike! Fairly shaded most of the way, which is nice when it's hot! This hike is best in the summer because of the falls at the end is very temperature cool, and I would recommend water shoes or hiking sandals because you will walk through the water. It's a really fun hike, very beautiful place!

Love this hike. What a find just a few miles off the 15. Well worth the $9 entrance fee.

Easiest to jump in the creek and follow it up the canyon. Perfect for summer afternoon. Tracked it at approx. 2.7 miles and 1 hour to the 2nd ladder but I was moving at fairly quick pace. Appears trail continues quite a distance past the 2nd ladder with even taller canyon walls at some point but had to turn back before sunset. Will definitely return.

One of my favorite hikes so far. The waterfall was an amazing end to the hike.

Awesome hike! Definitely will do it again when we’re in the area

By far it was a beautiful view. I was amazed every corner I turned. The waterfall was beautiful. I went during rainy season so I saw multiples falls. The cave, WOW!!! You have to be there to know what I felt. We took the bear gulch trail!!!! Very nice..

Amazing. AMAZING. Moderately tough hike but not overly difficult. Adjusting to the elevation is probably what makes it hard. Started hike a little after 7am and reached the first and second Lakes around 9:15. The first and second lake are right next to each other. We decided to head back after that and only took us one hour to get down to the trailhead. Pretty quick hike but on the way up we had a steady pace. I recommend starting early (needless to say). It makes going up through the switchbacks way easier when the sun isn’t beating down on you. Weather was perfect. Great visibility for us, however, on the way down smoke from the Ferguson fire was blowing through. 100% recommend this hike :)))) absolutely breathtaking.

It’s a very nice trail, but extremely tough if you don’t hike more that 5 miles. On my GPS it actually ended up being 14 miles because we did climb to the summit. If you are and experienced hiker go for it, for people like that I’m not in terrible shape but also don’t run marathons it was really tough!

I think this might be my favorite hike to date! Go! You won’t be disappointed.

Jaw dropping trail. One of the bests I have ever done, but I would start the loop counter clockwise, as to know, from the black lake first, this way the scenery is going to keep been better and better every time as my favourite lakes where the 1st and 2nd lakes.

Great trail!

Breathtaking views all around. We camped at the Second Lake and the view of Temple Crag from our tent was everything. There were some mad thunderstorms in the afternoon and we had to hunker down in our tent. But then as the skies opened up, we were greeted by a double rainbow. We will definitely be back very soon!
