Breath taking views from the top! Slippery when wet, gets real muddy in the rain. Wear appropriate shoes.

Your workout for the week. Not a casual hike. We hiked the shortest, steepest trail up to the Mount LeConte summit in TN. That was a walk in the park compared to this. I gave it 4 stars, though, be cause it challenges you and there are great views.

My 15 year old son and I hiked the Pinnacle Trail to the Ridge Trail, and connected back to the Table Rock Trail all the way to the overlook. We did this Saturday, November 2, 2018. The weather was perfect, but everybody and their brother was there making it pretty crowded at the overlook and on the way down (we took the Table Rock Trail back down). We started at 10:30am and arrived back to the parking lot at 4:40pm. We spent about 15 minutes enjoying the overlook. We hiked this same route when my son was 11. We just can’t work up the nerve to take the Table Rock Trail up, because it is very steep ALL THE WAY. We plan to come back many more times, but will probably come on a weekday from now on, due to the crowds. I would advise taking some good snacks and plenty of water. My only complaint is there are no places to pee if you’re a female, but I do believe porta potties here and there would ruin the experience! LOL

One of the first hikes I did of the weekend! It was definitely a challenge and pretty long but well worth the hike up! Weather was beautiful, part of the mountains were frosted off from the sun not hitting them just yet. The views are to die for! Keep your speed steady.

This hike is much longer than stated. we clocked almost 14 miles. This is difficult and very strenuous! The view is worth it, but make sure you begin early enough and bring snacks!

Really worth it when you see the view! Kids might think this is “moderate” but this old dude w bad knees and a pacemaker says it is most definitely worthy of a “hard” rating! But a great hike!

Location
The trailhead starts in the Newfound Gap Overlook parking lot. It's on the left side right next to the bathrooms! It is labeled Appalachian Trail. Nothing about Charlie's Bunion is listed.
About 1.5 miles in there is a spit in the trail. Go left!
Still no mention of Charlie's Bunion haha.

Splits in the trail
Whenever there is a split in the trail choose the Appalachian Trail side. I believe the next split is at mile 3 or so. Choose to go right there.

Views
On your way to the Bunion you have lots of views and even a chance to check out a shelter. Be mindful of thru hikers who may be using that as a resting spot.

The Bunion is better than any picture so hike it yourself! We even did a shoot off to the Jump Off and wow!!!

Moderate is right
We were exhausted from the constant climb up to the Bunion and are legs were sore Dr the long walk back down (burning calves). Moderate is an accurate listing for this trail. Not super technical, but definitely a work out.

Time it right
We got on the trail around 7:30 and had it mostly to ourselves. We passed at least 50 hikers on our way down though, so get there early!

Conditions
It is wet/icy and VERY windy!

A lot of incline but the views were incredible. We started around 12pm and there was a little bit of ice on the trail but overall a great hike.

Words can’t describe it!

If you don’t want to spend all day hiking this trail...you can drive to the summit and enjoy the same views. The hike wasn’t worth it after finding this little tid bit out. Also...almost got mauled by a bear.

Left at 7:21 on a beautiful fall day. will do it again.

Gorgeous trail and views

Hiked this trail November 1st just before cold front came through. 3 things about this trail-rocky , rooty and windy, well marked and maintained.. Need good hiking shoes at a minimum, poles optional, and bring layered clothing with wind breaker , gloves and hat a must as it gets nippy at top . Can be a challenge if not in at least average shape. Plan on 5-8 hours round trip. Well worth doing and you get the pleasure of knocking off the highest peak east of the mighty Mississippi.

Question: the 10 miles it says it is, is this total? or each way?

One of the tougher trails that I've hiked...very rugged terrain. Steady uphill climb for 3.5 miles. Over 2,000 feet in elevation gain. A lot of rock steps and a few rock faces to hike up. Governor's Rock is a nice view before the summit. Guess I was expecting a little more at the top.

Fun, short hike. Be aware, even though it's listed as moderate, there is a very steep (pretty intense) staircase to get down to the falls.

Excellent easy hike. Love this place and so does the dog!

I love this trail so much! I often take friends out of town to this hiking trail. The view is ten out of ten! It’s beautiful!!

My wife and I hiked this trail and loved it. It is definitely hard but the view at the top is worth it.

This is such a fun trail! I started off at 8:30am on a weekday, went up seeing only maybe 3 or 4 other people, and had the Bunion to myself for a good 20 minutes. The view is absolutely stunning! On the way back, I turned on to Boulevard Trail to go to The Jumpoff. The fall colors were brighter than anywhere else, and the view was definitely worth it. My GPS clocked it as 9.5 miles (and 2500 calories burned, so bring snacks to keep up your energy!)
I wear trailrunning shoes, and found most of the trail pretty easy to navigate. Definitely wear appropriate shoes; running shoes are not gonna be a good idea. By the time I got back to Newfound Gap, it was busy with lots of people heading up.

Wonderful hike w amazing scenery but was very wet and slick. You have to take very deliberate and cautious steps.

This was a great hike. The ending was epic! So glad we did it!

Awesome hike! But very busy, we had to pass and stop for people coming the other way quite often. The scenery was beautiful and the view at the end was worth it. The trail was rocky with lots of roots so you have to watch your footing!

Very nice.

A must hike!!! Awesome vistas!

Great hike! Very rocky and uneven in parts but the view is worth it. We also hiked to the Jump Off and it was just as beautiful! Great hike all around!
