worth a trek up if you're in the area. the views from the top are great and the steep trail gives a nice taste of adirondack hiking without the endurance requirements of an adk high peak.

Great hike-as others have stated, the main portion of the hike is steep-825 feet of elevation gain in .9 miles. But worth every step, the top would be great to sling a hammock between a couple of trees and spend the night. Lightly forested, with some open meadow spots along with some exposed rock face. The views on both the east(Vermont) and west (lake George) points are great.

My wife and I took our dog and our boys hiking there yesterday. Crossing the creek was a bit challenging at the North end of the trail and it was a bit muddy, but overall it was a nice hike and the trail was well marked. They need to fix some of the steps though, the wood or rock has slid and it leaves an exposed rebar rod sticking out of the ground.

If you heading to see shelving rock falls, be sure to do this quick hike to catch some summit views of lake George too. Very easy hike for any age or active level.

This hike is great for young families that enjoy steady but not necessarily overly strenuous uphill hikes. Beautiful lookout at the top. This is a short hike; depending on your pace and the length of time at the top, ~45-75 minutes up and ~25-35 minutes down.

amazing hike with serious ascents. the trail is well marked and almost entirely shaded. yes. it is rocky. sturdy shoes a must. hiking poles recommended. other hikers describe crowds. not our experience on a summer monday. we saw a few folks each way. at the top you will pop out on a park road. go left to find picnic tables, bathrooms, cold water, and a great view of lake George.

A wonderful hike though it was a little dicey in parts. Winter appears to have brought some changes to the landscape.

Beautiful lookout !

Great views of Lake George.

Did this hike as my first time taking my 9 year old daughter out by myself. She loved it and the view was great. I liked that we frequently had people passing us by since we it was just the 2 of us. People of different ages and dogs were all present.

Awesome hike

GF and I did this hike after a full day of basically non stop rain. The rocks were slippery so we decided to stay slightly astray from the trail as walking in the dirt was safer.Red trail is really well marked and simple to follow.Starting at the stairs we made it to the summit in 1:13 and that was with a few short stops here and there. We were fortunate enough that not many people had driven up so it was not crowded.Windy but it felt great in a humid day.Views were fantastic.I would suggest hiking shoes and we had trekking poles which helped but this is a very manageable trail. Our round trip was 3:05 but I took quite a few pictures up top.

Trail is marked as moderate but after the initial 10 minutes from the street, it is a steep hike. Probably will take 45 minutes to an hour for most. I started out and went to the left and up to the top, walked around then back down. When back at the flat area, went straight and returned back to the beginning of the trail, you can see it on my mapping. Beautiful views at the summit. Go right and it's an out and back to the lake view and then go to the other side for the Vermont overlook. You'll come back to the top and won't see any real markings so get your bearings, go right and you should see the red tree markings again. Going down is not as bad as some other steep hikes I've done, just take your time. This trail starts out in an area that you wouldn't expect to be busy but ran into quite a few mostly on my way down. Parking is tight, just off the road and about 5-6 cars maybe. Probably should be rated as hard as it's quite steep for a mile.

We really enjoyed this hike. It reminds us of The Pinnacle in comparison. Once you reach the top you’ll see the lake but the views are restricted. Definitely follow the small paths down...it will lead you to an open area with views. The views are amazing!!

Great hike with amazing views. Trail was a little difficult for my young kids. At the top the park rangers have a water cooler station to refill bottles.

A short but difficult hike. Loved getting my heart rate up and enjoying the view, but dang this is one straight uphill walk!

Beautiful!!

Easy trail. Kids had a great time. Doubled back to the little waterfall after summit. Worth the hike!

a fun trail full of critters and a great view.

very easy. great for a hot day

Moderate is a little off. I’d say hard. The runs are straight up for the first half, over rocky terrain. The second half of the climb is steep but fun. The view at the top was well worth it! Only complaint was that it summits at an area that is basically a parking lot and picnic area. Shame on me for not reading more about this climb. I do not like to hike to something everyone else can drive to. Although we had a great time!!!

Great hike!

One of my favorite local places. Always bring my dogs!!

Well-maintained trail that culminates with a beautiful view of the Lake George valley. It is NOT for the novice hiker, as you will experience significant stretches of steep terrain along the way. Bring plenty of water and prepare for a good cardiovascular workout!

Taking up hiking as a retirement activity and this was our first hike. Had a great day only wish we had known that the waterfalls would not be running. Will have to go back next spring!

Never hiked before (live on a flat island with paved walking trails, normally walk 5 miles per day there). Went with my 10 year old high energy daughter, it was a great work out for both of us. This hike was a challenge but completely doable, just watch your footing coming back down. We set out to try the blue trail to the waterfall, but it was quite buggy and we noticed the water ways along the way were dried up and that another hiker commented the waterfall was little more than a trickle, so we were guessing things are probably dried up a bit right now and headed back to avoid the bugs. Trail was clearly marked even for us newbies. The view from the gazebo was beautiful! We are looking forward to checking out other trails in the area when we visit again.

Didn’t do much other than look down while climbing to the top due to steepness and rocky terrain. I did enjoy view. Best spot was from shuttle parking lot so be sure to stop there before proceeding to summit.

Also I took the blue marker up. It was quieter, less steep (but still steep) but longer. Been told it is twice as long. Took red trail back.
