nice long flat trail, tunnel is very cool to walk through, have a light if you want to see any detail inside the tunnel.

I absolutely love hiking here, but the people are absolute slobs. I’ve been going here since I was a kid and I brought my kids there yesterday and they were quite upset about the MASSIVE amount of garbage everywhere. They need to implement some serious litter prevention. Ban all disposable water bottles being the first, I’ve never seen so much trash at a park like this. It’s depressing.

easy walking

I was pleasantly surprised with Starved Rock. It is awesome that all of the trails connect and you can decide what paths to take and loop all over. The canyons were sweet and picturesque.
It was an absolute zoo when we finished at 11am. Totally nuts. Would recommend getting there as early as possible to avoid crowds. We got there at 8am.
Do go hike, it's the best the area has to offer.

Awesome trail! Going back soon to explore more of the park. Beautiful views, beautiful waterfalls and an excellent place to explore. Can't wait to go back!

Bring bug spray! What a cool hike. Several different ecosystems, a pretty tough sandy incline, lots of wildlife, and plenty of isolated beach. My first hike in Indiana and I can’t wait to go back!

Really liked this trail! It wasn’t super hard, but be prepared for a lot of sand.

That place is so beautiful I loved

Great trail! Enjoyed the beautiful views at the tops of the dunes!

We really enjoyed the hike. We thought the first steep hill was one of the first dunes. Lol it was not. It was challenging but we conquered those 3 Dunes. We came back the next day and did trail 9. Lots of bugs and beautiful scenery on trail 9.

This is a nice trail out to the beach through woods and the bog. Insect repellant is prob a must...I mean it is a bog after all. I didn't have a problem with bugs with repellant on. The first mile or so is shaded with packed sand, providing a stable walking surface, and also a raised boardwalk through the bog. As you make your way toward the beach, the hills get steeper and the sand gets increasingly loose, making it a challenging hike. The views are well worth the dune hike, and I'd prefer to hike here to this beach over going to the crowded beach anyday. Great trail.

This is one of my favorite trails in the area! If you go in the summer time, you can eat some of the blackberries!

Pretty fun challenge! Short ascent up each one, but the incline was what got me. The last one has a wooden staircase on either side, which is the steepest of the three.

A wonderful trail with one huge 90 degree sand dune well that how it felt anyway!

A wonderful workout with one giant sand dune with an 90 degree angle or at least it feels that way.

Pretty challenging but sweeping views of the lake and Chicago in the distance. There is nothing easy about climbing sand dunes!!!

Beautiful place to lose yourself in nature!

Beautiful views of Lake Michigan on trail along water-trails were well marked except #1 and 3 at parking lot going into Dunes-lots of criss cross trails so confusing Saw deer and heron on river thru woods. Will be back!

We rode from Frostburg to Perryopolis in two days, June 13 and 14, 2018. There was evidence of a cleared mud slide just before the turn off to Perryopolis, but had no problems getting around it - did not have to get off our bikes. It was an amazing two days with perfect weather and beautiful scenery. We stayed at the Parker House in Confluence the first night - a very nice home with several rooms for rent. The second night we stayed at The Inn at Lenora's in Perryopolis. We were the only guests so we had special attention and were treated like royalty, with breakfast (an enormous breakfast) included with our room rate. We appreciate all the volunteer work that goes in to keeping the Trail open.THANK YOU GAP VOLUNTEERS!

Great trail! Loved the views. Pretty challenging. We took the trail 7 offshoot to walk along the shore a bit. Would recommend doing that.

Nice sand trail through the woods. Wonderful in summer.

Wouldn’t really consider this hiking, most trails are built into the landscape with wooden platforms and stairs. It’s a nice shady hike though that is not very challenging. There are some good spots for scenery and photos. Also lots of trash throughout, people need to learn to pick up after themselves.

Stairs were a little rough at the start but loved looking at all the birds and flowers.

Canyons, waterfalls, sand dune, streams and River. This trail has everything! Its not very challenging but very scenic and much of trails are covered with tall trees. Makes for nice cool trail running during warmer month. At first , a good chunk of trails seems over made with wood and concrete but I believe those are necessary for masses to safely enjoy canyons and water falls. After while, its not that obtrusive.
Overall great place to hike and enjoy.

Great hike, be prepared for your shoes to get a little sand in them. Beautiful views of the lake and good for kids and dogs. Hiked it with our best friends who got engaged during the hike.

Nice peaceful walk.

Very nice, good trail for family. Paths are easy to follow. Can get very crowded during peak times, so go early if possible.

Worth doing; very scenic

it was a very challenging trail but we had a blast!

Loved this trail. Super neat with lots of canyons and lookouts over the river. Definitely a good hike for local hikers who don't want to travel too far for a wonderful experience.
