Good walk through the woods. Very easy hike with such a good view of the lake.

Trail was partially covered in snow. I would recommend wearing at least hiking shoes. We slipped a few times in our hikers. The first mile isn’t terrible. It’s mostly the second mile and the decent down to the lake that is pretty slick. Overall fun hike. Definitely moderate. Majority of the way up is incline. We caught the sunset on the way down around 4. Lots of potholes on the gravel road up but wasn’t too muddy today. Lot was full at 12.

One of the best hikes I’ve ever done. Challenging but worth it. Road is washed out so it’s 2 miles to trailhead. From trailhead you climb 3000 feet in right over 3 miles. At 3.2ish you’ll reach virgin lake, it was frozen over today (11/17). From virgin lake it’s all downhill to Blanca lake, about 0.82 miles. Snow was packed down but yactracks and poles were super helpful.

Short 2mi. round trip hike. The bridges are a little slick during the Winter months. Beautiful hike and the cave is breathtaking! A child friendly hike.

Our gps said there was a road closure but that was false. Got there with no issues. At some point the cave has collapsed a large portion. see pics. There is also a huge crack on the left side of cave. Also a crack in the upper center piece of the cave. Hiking baby did not go inside the cave. I went in and walked towards the back and there is an amazing waterfall in the back of the cave. After leaving the cave went further down the trail and if you stand next to the small opening you can feel a draft like a fan. Pretty neat. Further down there is another waterfall.

My dog and I went for a short hike today. Trail was clean with plenty of parking. Great easy hike. We only went 1.7 miles out. Highly recommend for novices like me.

Beautiful views of the Mountains. Some trees down over the path that are tricky to navigate. Really icy at the top and around the lake. The path around the lake isn’t an easy one, but worth the walk. Amazing pics!

Hiked this with my son in September. This is a great hike for all ages and levels.

Easy trail. The ice caves are very cool. If you go inside of them there is a waterfall at the end. Because the caves are melting the ice drips from the roof, so prepare to get wet. Bring a flashlight.

Absolutely stunning. We did this hike in a day that was supposed to be rainy but for the most part there were no rain. The trail was very beautiful, it was among these trees, mosses, fallen leaves and ferns. It was one of the most beautiful trails I've seen in Washington.
The hike is super moderate and the gain is very gradual. We did the loop, taking the Upper Elliot trail hiking up and Lower Elliot trail hiking down. My AllTrails app says 11.4 miles total. We walked around the lake too.
At this time of year, there were many waterfalls on the way up and also around the lake itself. All were really gorgeous. I should also mention, we took highway 530 and the tree colors were really beautiful.

on Monte Cristo Trail

Great stroll even in the pouring rain. We turned into the trail at the first large caution sign that crossed a wooden bridge into the woods. We should have stayed straight right toward the rivers edge instead of going up. The next woops was we missed the pile of rocks to indicate where to turn to actually go to Monte Cristo from that side of the trail. We went about a mile past the turn before we realized and had to backtrack. We were gaining elevation and the route to Montecristo is lowland around 700 feet. So if you take that route look for a pile of rocks about mile and a half in on your left hand side and take a left at that pile of rocks. You will eventually get down to the river again to find that long log that most people talk about that you need to cross over and from there you just keep Truckin ahead on the gravel road about 2 more miles and you'll find Monte Cristo.

Hiked Nov 3: NW Forest Pass needed, easy road terrain driving in, bathrooms at TH. Well-marked, slight incline/decline, trail was not slick, a few blow-downs, very very wet, sometimes feel as if you are walking through a waterfall while on the trail, although it was easy to navigate. Huge beautiful old growths and so many waterfalls, I lost count! Lake 22 was beautiful! Quite popular but not overcrowded. Can’t wait to come back in the Spring!

An easy trail since it’s low elevation gain and goes along a road most of the way. There is a log crossing, so I wouldn’t advise small children or anyone with balance issues or fears. However, there are other options if you decide to turn around at the log. The ghost town is very cool with pretty forest and river views along the way!The trail is worth it as long as you know what you’re getting into! I give it a three because it’s not really a hike, but more of a forest road walk.

Super easy hike to the really cool caves!

Some of the trail is redirected do to wash outs and to cross the river you go over a fallen tree. all around a very beautiful hike.

Great hike. Fairly easy. Boulder field towards the end was annoying but well worth it.

Great walk with historical destination and beautiful fall colors. As noted on prior post, there was a crew of volunteers at the historic town, working to preserve this great gateway to our past... THANKS.

Only negative would be that the river crossing point was poorly marked.

Great hike with 14 boy scouts for a fun overnighter. This was a great way for the younger scouts to work on their outdoor skills. The camping area was very nice and provided plenty of room. Although not stated here (unless I missed it) the US forest service still recommends packing in water. Although there was a cleanup in 2016, the Ranger station in Verlot stated that there is the possibility of arsenic in the water still so it is good to pack in your water.

I havent hiked in 25 yrs.this was my 2nd hike in a few months an it kicked my butt.i do have some lung disease.but it was so beautiful an the scenery was breathtaking..

Great hike. Got to the parking lot around 10am, it was getting full but found a spot easily (maybe because it’s near the end of the season). The hike itself was not terribly difficult. I’m a beginner and I found the incline manageable and the distance was fine. The hard part was the rocks and water! The trail is very wet and has a ton of parts that are super rocky. I wouldn’t recommend bringing young children. The lake wasn’t the most satisfying end-point, but the hike up to it was lovely and everything was very picturesque. I’d do it again!

Was intimidated by the length but it was totally worth it. Beautiful. Lots of waterfalls along the way. Trail gets a little sloppy at times, meaning it was unmarked and we were a bit unsure but it was still easy to follow. Towards the end it was a bit uphill and tiring but tolerable. Will for sure recommend. We saw a total of three people the entire hike.

This was a truly beautiful hike! Lightly traveled on. Wednesday in October. Not recommended for beginners or children just due to the rocky portion for about half a mile. I’d also recommend poles for this same reason. I though the lake was rather lackluster but it was nice to have a goal and a good lunch spot. Amazing moss and waterfall!

Really a lot of fun- agree that Lower Elliott is a lot more interesting with water views and lots of up and down. The middle flats are pretty through the birch forests and easy...the switchbacks just below the lake will kick you a little after that but the lake views are worth it.

Nice trail relaxing walk through the wood. You can safely walk closer to the ice then in june/july.
Great place for a short one-day ecapade from Seattle.

Did this hike back in the beginning of March. Still had lots of fresh snow on the trail, we were able to hike the trail without of crampons. maybe if we had it on we would have been able to go up quicker. But, it was doable without them. It was perfect that day, we got there around 7ish and the parking was already full, not crowded but it was full.

great trail that has a nice steady elevation.there are many rocks and streams to navigate around which can get a little slippery when things get really cold.
