There are many routes to the top! be aware when you finish the switch backs that run doing the creek there is a false summit. Go past the trail marker and you'll have to head down for a little bit before a short climb back up to reach the Arch.

Challenging for a recreational hiker & worth it - beautiful views, the arch did not disappoint!

Lovely hike close to Denver. Did it counterclockwise in 3 hours (a moderate pace for the first half and slow for the latter half). Parking was easy at 9a on Saturday and there were a nice number of people— enough to not feel alone if something happened, but not busy. Very peaceful.

Awesome hike. Trail is well traveled and moderately difficult in some areas.

The arch itself is beautiful. But it is clearly not a trail that deserves a "hard" rating. Most of the hikers on this trail were in casual wear and made it to the top. We saw more than one woman carrying her purse and wearing flats. If you have the gumption and the time, you will make it to the top.

Amazing trail! Why is everyone complaining about the crowd. If I was the only one out there struggling, is it even really worth it?

Pretty views but so rocky, and the large number of inconsiderate people riding bikes ruined it for me. I’ll try a hiking only trail next time.

A great workout, will challenge most hikers. Worth the climb, the views are amazing! Wear proper hiking shoes and take water. Did this hike with my daughter in law and we enjoyed it.

Gorgeous Trail. Took us a bit longer than what some other people described about 3.5 hours, but we stopped a decent amount to enjoy the peace of nature. We went during a weekday and only passed 5-6 other hikers the entire time. I think we did the trail backwards as all the signs are to for doing beaver brook then Chavez but we did Chavez first. I would suggest doing Beaverbrook first as Chavez had a lot of scrambling rocks which would have been more enjoyable going up.

I’m a seasoned hiker and this trail kicked my butt! The arch is beautiful. Would’ve given 5 stars if it weren’t for the crowd (6:30am on a Friday...)

You get a little bit of everything with this hike!!! Did this with our energetic pup and we all loved it! Went counterclockwise like some of the reviews suggested and although the last stretch is uphill, I think it was the right move. Highly recommend!

Great but strenuous hike!

The upper lot is a little over a mile above main lot. Trailhead signs point to Spruce Creek and Wheeler trails. Made it to next lake above lower Mohawk then turned back due to weather, about 3mi into hike. Upper lake another 1mi. A strenuous beautiful hike. Easy to lose trail past lower lake—follow AllTrails map closely. Interestingly the Burro trail from base of Peak 9 finishes about half way between upper and lower lots.

Boy what a workout. Intense hike with some incredible views towards the top. While the trail can be busy (we saw no less than 30 people on a random Thursday), it is really peaceful and tranquil along the trail. Hard but totally worth it.

Gorgeous hike! Has everything: wildflowers, wildlife (big horn sheep!), waterfalls, and alpine lakes. It’s a bit beat at the higher altitudes to that point you question if you’re still on the trail at the rockier spots nears the lakes, but I found it to be an ‘all paths lead home’ situation. Enjoy.

Lotsa tree roots in this hike through the woods but worth the side views of the creek.

This hike was difficult. Lots of steps and up hill almost the entire way. Although it was hard, it was definitely worth the hike! Go early and avoid some of the crowd.

Beautiful hike!!

Beautiful upper Mohawk lake . The sun rays reflected from the lake’s surface seemed like little sparkling stars . The trail itself is a tough one especially for those not accustomed to the elevation. We also parked at the bottom parking lot but we did not mind hiking through the woods . Also the effort is only worth it if you go all the way up to upper Mohawk lake . We took snack breaks at the lower lake and the two waterfalls to keep us going.

Got a late start and made it to the second lake 3.4 into it. Epic Mountain View’s, Beautiful Lake had a nice lunch and soaked it all in. Then hoofed it back. If you have 4x4 and are limited in time I would recommend driving further up and hiking the rest of the way to the final lake.

Loved this! Did it 09/29/18. Some steep parts, teensy bit of scrambling (super easy, but maybe difficult for little ones). Did the loop in 2 hours, stopping to take pictures at some scenic sites. Also, did the loop backwards which we enjoyed, just means a steeper ascent at the end.

This was a great trail - but - as others have indicated - a little bit of a journey getting to lower Mohawk Lake. The first part of Spruce Creek Trail is easy to follow with great blue diamond markers. Once you get to the rocky part of the trail - it’s a little more difficult. Several people we met along the way were confused as to where the trail actually was. That said, it was still a very fun hike, with good scenery along the way. Making it to upper Mohawk Lake was really cool - as it kinda comes out of nowhere. It allows for a great place to take a break, have some snacks and enjoy the view. The additional waterfalls and lakes along the way make for great rest points too. The fact you can hit the trail in about 15 minutes from Breck is a nice feature, also.

Fun hike!

Pretty hike. Did it 9/27/18. 5 mile loop with mostly shade from all the trees. Took me about 2 hours total but I was walking at a good pace almost the whole time. Several water crossings where the trail runs along the creek but you don't have to get wet if you use the bridges or rocks. I took my 6 year old 30lbs mini Aussie and he loved it. The trail is good the entire way and easy to follow, but some sections have about a 1-2ft wide trail with steep drop-offs to one side. I wouldn't take my dog if he wasn't good on a leash because if he pulls or gets crazy you could fall 20+ feet. Several sections of trail are rocky (smaller rocks you can mostly step right up, a few larger rocky areas where you may actually use your hands but nothing too crazy), but something to keep in mind if you are expecting a flat dirt trail the whole time.

Lovely hike. I’ve done it clockwise and counterclockwise and I think I prefer counter clockwise because it’s a little rockier in Chavez and it’s better to do that earlier on rather than when I’m tired, especially with a little one in my back.

I went her at the recommendation of my local bike shop and I had a great time. Was just by myself but decided to not look at the trail map and just go where I thought looked more interesting. Ended up staying and going up and down again and again for almost four hours. Next time I will have to bring my climbing shoes though as I found some nice bouldering spots just off the trails. Was fairly crowded and a fairly easy but pleasant downhill ride. The times I was going uphill wasn’t bad and I would say with some of the rocks and logs in the trail could be considered a medium.
