I didn’t hike all the way to Snow Valley, just went 8 miles as an out and back. Very few people out this time of year, we saw 5 people on foot and 5 people on horseback. The views of Tahoe were all seen as glimpses through the trees, but still a very beautiful hike.

Beautiful trail and views. Forest at its best. First time mountain biking, had to walk in a couple of areas, but not too hard. Will do this one again.

This one is a walk in the woods - a sweet little meandering trail that never gets too strenuous and offers scenic views of the Carson Valley below. The trail follows the curves of the canyon and was quite kid friendly once you get past the initial ascent. We saw several mountain bikers today, so be aware of this, especially with the frequent blind spots around switch backs.

This is a great little trail in an equally great location. Close to town, this one connects to many other hikes, such as Eagle Ridge and the Tahoe Rim Trail (if you’re up for some serious elevation gain). I don’t enjoy the parking for the trailhead, which requires you to walk along a road that borders private homes and property, but once you are on the trail you get beautiful views of the Carson Valley. We hiked it today with my four year old, and he did great, so personally I’d rate this one as easy! Beautiful colors and crisp fall weather at this time of year, but be prepared for early shadows and sunset on this trail since it right on the east facing side of the mountain.

Easy trail but it splits often and can be difficult to tell which direction is correct. Always yield left before the bridge and you’ll make it!

Beautiful views! Bit of an incline at the beginning, but the trail levels out. My feet were feeling the hike at the end. The waterfall was lovely.

great loop

Nice casual walk. Awesome panoramic view of the lake.

Time this trail accordingly as it will be covered in snow during winter/spring. This is my go to place for hiking. Its a nice hike with shaded trees. There is a nice resting spot next to a waterfall. The views are stunning looking over Reno and of course Lake Tahoe. Recommend doing this hike in light summer/fall for the best weather.

Great hike with great views. The last mile is a bit of a climb but well worth it.

Gotta love loop hikes! Even without the trip to the summit this is an excellent hike. Take the brand-new Tahoe Rim Trail section from the top of the waterfall for an added workout (instead of dropping into the valley before getting to the junction that leads to the top of Mt. Rose) (on this map).
Also, be aware that there is a new cut-off from the "Rest Stop to Relay" trail to the Relay Peak Trail at about .7 miles from the trailhead. (NOT on this map, or the one at the trailhead)). You'll still get where you're going, but it's a little confusing.

Easy trail. The water is crystal clear, and the scenery is beautiful.

Great mellow trail. Beautiful in late October when the aspens are changing.

Spectacular view from Castle Rock!!! Good trail to acclimate on.

I agree that the trail is poorly marked in areas. We went clockwise around the lake, and the first half had a fairly easy to follow, level trail that stayed close to the lake. We did not mind the walk on the paved one lane road as the drivers waved or exchanged kind words with us. One spoke to our dog! hahah. Stanford Sierra Camp has some benches and swings that you can sit on for a picnic lunch with a beautiful view. Makes me wish we could camp there, but alas neither my husband nor I attended Stanford. From there, the trail got a whole lot harder! There were some very rocky ups and downs. I had to send my husband ahead to make sure the trail was appropriate for our lab. I would have enjoyed this part of the trail more if it was not as rocky and long as it was (45 minutes to an hour of walking). The views of the lake were great, but the rocks cut my dog's feet. We reached a fork in the trail with a sign that read "Public trail" and pointed upward. My husband and I debated which fork to take; I thought we needed to head back toward the lake, but we ended up following the public tail which was the wrong path to take. This path had a lot more rocks and also was very overgrown with prickly, scratchy plants. After realizing that we were no longer on the trail we needed to be on, we course corrected and ended up by the firehouse. The trail was once again level and easy to follow. About a mile before the trail head, we found an adorable beach with a picnic table. This would have been a much better place to let our dog swim than the other rockier shorelines we found earlier in the hike. Somehow, we took another wrong turn and got off the trail again. This time my husband decided that the new trail may take us to our car (it didn't), and we ended up having to backtrack quite a ways to get back on the trail. I definitely agree that you should bring a fully charged phone and use the GPS map to ensure you stay on the trail at any fork. All in all with our detour(s), we probably turned this 8 mile hike into 10 miles. Our lab was dragging by the end, and so were we! Bring plenty of water and food!

Beautiful hike with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe at every turn. On this day it was pretty windy It had to be at least 25 mph winds I felt like I was gonna blow away craziest wind I’ve experienced

Superb little hike, especially with kids. Requires to be a bit careful towards the rock.

Wow! Fabulous trail ride. A lot of DG and does technical with the large boulders. We are not able to get to Rock Lake. Boulders made it impossible to pass safely with our horses.
My horse did fine without shoes.
Narrow at points with steep drop offs lasting short distances. First time taking my young mare on a more technical ride, she did fine. There is quite a bit of elevation hike, but we stopped and tested as needed. Quite a few hikers, not bad. Parking adequate.

Great views, moderate traffic but still enjoyed it. The waterfall at the end was great. Definitely enjoyed the afternoon and would go again. Took a couple hours but wasn’t in a rush, lots of spots for pics!

One of the best hikes I’ve ever been on in Tahoe! Amazing views all the way up, in late October the most BEAUTIFUL fall colors. Definitely constant incline that will get your heart rate up but nothing unreasonable! Loved every second of it and the views at the vista at the top are stunning! Great dog trail too. I went on a Thursday and it was moderately busy near the bottom - I imagine it’s insane on weekends!
