This is a pretty awesome trail. The new sections puts this trail into Hard territory. I have a rock buggy on 1 tons and 43’s and I have run this trail many times, it is always fun. Last run there was a group of broke Jeeps on one of the obstacles and I took a bypass line around them and proceeded to beat on my rig harder than I have in a long time, but I was able to get around. The group of Jeepers were on 33-35’s and they didn’t look like they’d return.

Lots of uphill, but a gorgeous trail through the forest, and very quiet on the Monday we went. Highly recommend.

We did this 11-3-18 and although it took about 2.5 hours from Fresno, the weather was gorgeous. The fishing however was horrible with not a single bite. The last mile or so of the trail was tough but still gorgeous. Rock lake looks really close on the map but it ends up being down this huge hill that you eventually have to come back up.....we left too late to do it but hopefully next time. :)

Great if you are backpacking to one of the camps. Route on recording is longer than needed. Continue on Glen Trial to Coast Glen Spur/Stewart Trial for quickest route (6.4) to Wildcat Camp. Monitor tide chart but the Beach Walk is best! If you are going for a day hike for the falls start at Palomarin.

Lots of shade. Perfect for a get up and go hike. Good ups in the beginning.

not alot of scenic views, but great shaded hike

generally: moderate trail near campground, trail itself is ok, rocky/dusty with numerous switchbacks; trail is mostly about the destination of the lake which is beautiful, large lake, perfect for swimming in summer
fairly busy in the summer

We got to the trailhead early. It was a crisp 21 degrees at 7am. The beginning of the hike (first mile) is the hardest (moderate level). The hike has a great path that not too rocky and gorgeous views of the mountains peaking through the trees throughout the hike. You arrive to the lake and it’s definitely chilly, but we were the only ones and it was amazing to have the entire lake to ourselves. Great moderate level hike.

Gorgeous hike! The views as you’re about to reach the lake are grand and gorgeous. The lake breeze was pretty chilly so bring some extra layers if you’re going to hang out for a bit.

Good hike. Cathedral Peak is quite something. We went mid October and there were no mosquitoes.

Beautiful lake. Did an overnight trip with my daughter. Temperature at the lake felt about 10 degrees cooler than on the trail. Probably due to the wind gusts. Ended up camping about a 1/2 mile from the lake. Fishing was great as well.

Although someone said journey matters not destination, in this case the at times strenuous journey was more than made up for by the incredibly beautiful lake! If you’re not acclimated to being around 9000ft above sea level- it’s gonna hurt as you heave up the first mile or so, and not so easy coming down either. But can be done take lotsa water and take it a little slow. Better to acclimatize drink some cocoa leaves tea , or matte is said to work good as well! Enjoy!

It was sooo hard! (Hiking that many miles) we thought out endurance level was great. But this trail proved us wrong. Haha. Would I do it again? No. Only if my endurance level is higher(; but the wild life on the trail was amazing. And the views were breath taking(:

Even though it is dry in late September the waterfall was still active. There are some nice water holes to cool off in too. Good short hike, with a rough drive in. Drive out was easier since we were going uphill. Coming back in the spring!

Perfect hike. Went with my wife and 9 year old daughter. Camped at Jamison lake, and hiked out. You really can not ask for a better hike to introduce kids to over night backpacking!

Beautiful dirt trail leading to the coast.

A group of us drove this trail yesterday and it was pretty awesome. The new reroute had one really tough hill that takes some work to get down. Rock rails are a must have item and I would suggest having a minimum of 33" tires. If you're in a JKU then you will be dragging on your skid plates.

Great views! Best going lower 1st, because the upper it's amazing! We spent 6 hours, almost 2 relaxing and taking pictures.

Takes a good 3 hours round trip, plus time to relax at lakes. Very beautiful area makes it worth the hike there. Bring lots of water!

This hike was a favorite! The views of Lower Cathedral Lake was awesome!! Upper Cathedral Lake was surprisingly windy. This hike has so many great views and a scenic walk in the woods. Most of the incline is at the beginning while your legs are fresh. Worst part was all the horse poop.

Very quiet for a weekend. Not a lot of people on this trail. Pretty flat all the way through. Falls were very pretty, inaccessible due to restoration but you can still get pretty close. Would totally do the trail again.

Dogs are allowed, and the drive down is great just have a good SUV. Also, very remote with no cell coverage.

Fun hike most of the uphill is at the start of the trail. Saw a Coyote in the trail so keep your eyes peeled.
