Definitely mostly for bikers very few walkers or joggers. We did the entire trail over a few days totaling 29 miles going out and back. We really enjoyed it trail clean and well kept. Improvements being made and hope they pass the bond issue to add 30 more miles. Will use for bicycling when we relocate there most people were very polite had two her were rude and yelled to get out of their way.

Fun Trail. One big bridge to traverse but mostly level. Nicely Paved.

Fun trail for learning about Florida coast wildlife.

Hiked this trail today (July 4, 2018). Trail had a few wet spots, but was entirely passable. Lower Myakka Lake was flooded, and the traditional Deep Hole viewing area was inaccessible. I expect this will remain to be the case for the next few months. Pack enough water, there isn't much of any shade.

trail designed w every mtn biker out there in mind.

You will find everything here. I usually start my ride here to get the blood flowing.

Packed the sedan w 3 mtn bike’s (son, neighbor’s son and myself) and headed to Carter Rd trails in Lakeland FL. Can’t say I enjoyed the torture but it was a welcomed change.

Unexpectedly hard blue trails, and lots of mud - this could be good or bad, depending on personal taste. Felt like I was 15 again.

As far as walking goes, I wasn't too much of a fan. The trails were overgrown. I had my daughter with me so she was terrified of spiders the whole time. We did see some nice wildlife, but over all this is my least favorite local trail so far.

Water shallow at spots, didn’t see much wildlife

Trails definitely seem to be designed for equestrian usage. Some trail markers are missing, I did get turned around a little bit towards the end of my loop. But I did find some nice ruins as a result.

Be advised that the gate gets locked BEFORE sunset. I had to have a sheriff's deputy dispatched to let me out.

Gorgeous, sunny, sandy, shady. Wildlife (armadillos and crock). Picnic benches and benches for relaxing by the water. Highly recommend! 4/5 as the sand paths make it a little extra dirty and difficult to walk. Overall excellent trail in the North Port area.

Trail is flooded just East of marker #8 as of 4/24/18.

Hike this preserve regularly. Several terrains and even elevation changes. The sandy trail leads to the very old Erasmus Rye cemetery. There's even remnants of an old burned out car and structure. The river is shallow enough to walk in many areas. Some off trail hiking takes you to old large orange trees that still produce fruit.

Pretty walk but kinds of short.

A real great trail, you will have to walk through some water in the rainy season.
I recommend this trail.

I was the only one on the trail that morning, no markings to keep you on the trail so that kept it interesting.. crossed a small dam and got to a water crossing but didn’t intend to get wet on my run so I turned back and ended up at 4.5mi - there are ATV trails that run parallel with the running path, being in south Florida I was generally surprised at the small elevation change I experienced here, I’ll be back with the intention of finishing the trail!

I stopped here on my way home from work. Found a beautiful lookout on the Myakka River and enjoyed a brisk walk under the tree canopies.

Trail bridges are closed on the paved portion and trees have fallen and blocked the path through the woods... very disappointing

Nice day for a hike. We saw a pileated woodpecker and a wild pig.

was a nice walk until we found out the bridge was closed till further notice so turned around only got 2 miles in

Easy trail. “Hard” rating is way off the mark.

trail is great!!!! However, it is shared by mountain bikers and hikers. It is distracting and at times dangerous. If you are hoping to see any wildlife forget it. There should be designated days or something for different uses or designated trails.

Excellent trail surface well maintained. Improvements seem to be continuous. Enjoy the scenery and availability of cafe’s.

Had a good day with the dogs. Enjoyed all the different trails you can take.

Tried to find the trail from the Fort Hamer side but couldn’t locate it. I don’t think this is actually a hiking trail.

I loved it. I do think the loop is more like 10 miles. Views of the river. Fun to explore. Going back again. Update: there is a 5 mile loop and a 10 mile loop with short cuts between. Saw a black wolf looking dog running with the pigs.
