On a clear day you might catch a view of Denali and Foraker if you're lucky! the ridge line views are just beautiful. it took us two and a half hours there and back.

My group made it to the Bomber! Another note from the field. To get down to the glacier you must climb down one of two vertical or near vertical ropes. You pet won't make it.

Incredibly tough trail with incredibly beautiful and inspiring views. Lucky enough to have had beautiful weather. My friend made it all the way to the peak and said it was amazing up there. The last 100 to 150 yards or so were too steep and too sketchy for my comfort. Climbed up really high and took a little siesta on a flat over look right before the 45 degree climb to the peak started. This trail really challenged me and molded me as a person. I recommend it to all who want to push their limits. We sent the night out there, hiked in to the bowl area and made camp. It was amazing, by far the best trip of the summer for me.

great easy hike

Walked through a green tunnel of brush for half an hour then got to the rocky stream bed. Had to cross over the glacially cold stream to go look at the snow caves, which were pretty neat! Sept 9, 2018.

Easy trail with beautiful views. We walked a bit past where the trail ends, but it was raining so we didn't go all the way to the Glacier.

The mine was cool. The hike was very quick and easy. The lake was pretty. For pics and more info visit https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/09/05/a-day-at-independence-mine-state-historical-park/

Super super challenging, hardest hike I’ve done to date but so worth it at the top!!

Beautiful, peaceful views of Gold Cord Lake at the top. We got up to the top in about twenty minutes, and took about that long to get back down again.

Great trail. Easy for those who hike often. I can see where it may be considered easy/moderate for some due to the slight incline of the trail. Beautiful views of the lake and Independence Mine once you reach the top.

First half of trail is very easy walk over gravel pathway. Second portion is slightly harder maneuvering over rocks to finally get to beautiful ice caves. Views include multiple ice caves and waterfalls. Round trip slightly less than 2 hrs depending on how long you stop for pictures. Definitely worth the trip!

This hike is amazing and the views are so stunning. We went out with the intentions that it was a very “easy” hike like most of the reviews claim, however I would consider it more moderate, especially for people who aren’t avid hikers. The first half is pretty easy, but towards the top it gets a bit sketchy and it’s pretty steep. Just know that you are going up the whole way. Once you get up there it is definitely worth it, and the way down takes half as long and is much more enjoyable!

Absolutely breathtaking views! We were saying how much it looks like the Alps up there. Lake is gorgeous. However I don’t agree with the rating of “Easy”. It was easy for myself and my mom who are active but I definitely wouldnt say people of all abilities could attempt this hike. Elderly or anyone with conditions in altitude shouldn’t do this. It gets a bit steep but only for a very short time.

Great hike, but here are some notes from the field:
- No facilities at the hike entrance. About 3/4 on the dirt road is one lonely out house. Might want to use it.
- The hike is in a valley with lots of running water. An extra pair of socks, a pair in the car, or water proof shoes/boots might make you more comfortable. Also, if it rains or even sprinkles, be prepared for ankle deep water.
- Moderate hike, but at about 2.5 miles in you are boulder-hoping (no trail ) for about 1/4-.5 miles.
- In regard to boulder hoping, if your pet is squeemish, might want to leave them home. Also, please control your pet for the sake of other hikers.
- You must CROSS the glacier to get to the bomber. Bring your Kahtoolas (micro spikes) and poles.
- Parking is along the road if lot full and they patrol the whole thing.
With these in mind, you should have a great time.

Such a beautiful hike! Great for picnicking at the lake up top. Good hike for children- smaller kids should be carried on the second half that ascends up to the lake. Trail is narrow and not level. We are always treated to small wildlife and the water is so pretty.

Loved the view, easy trails to walk on.

Went all over not just by the buildings. Hiked up to the cross and in back by the yurt and A- frame. . Will be beautiful in the fall.

Amazing hike! The trail is indeed moderate until you get to the terminus of the Reed Lakes trail, but the scramble up to Bomber Glacier is very tough - steep and sketchy rock slide-outs. If you give the glacier a shot, give yourself lots of time to tackle it safely. You will be rewarded with some incredible views.

Really enjoyed this trail. I’m not sure what I was thinking it would be like, maybe more rolling into a bowl or a valley but it’s a climb up to the top of hatch peak. The first half up until the lake easily switchbacks and then after it gets harder but still not overly difficult. There is some rock scrambling, watch your step. The views from the top are 360 degrees in every direction you look, just beautiful! It took us 2 hours 33 mins We stopped for lots of pictures! Would do again and would recommend to others!

Easy trail with a winding path up. Takes about half as long to get back down!

Easy trail with amazing views of the mountains and glacier.. lots of super cold running water.. beautiful flowers along the way..

One of my favorite hikes in Alaska!

Beautiful trail! My first real hike in a little long time (nope not saying how long). My avid hiker girlfriend and I settled for a total of 6.2 miles. I know she was wanting to do more, but I was thinking I still need to hike back so we turned around. Sure felt good to sit in our truck! No so much getting out of it. Lol. First of many beautiful hikes in Alaska for us!! Well groomed trail!

Beautiful and spectacular views from all angles. Definitely a place to take out of town guests.

Great hike to a beautiful lake. At least the views that I could see below the low clouds.

Awesome hike with amazing views. Very busy trail on the first part to the lakes and snow, but once you start up the steeper/rocky part you get much more solitude. Took the trek down the opposite side which cut the time/distance at least in half! Don't think you could pick your way "up" this way though, it's all rocky/boulders, but it's definitely an alternate way back down rather than going back down the same way you went up.

Pretty easy going hike with a great view at the snow field! :)

July 29. Great hike with amazing views. Give yourself plenty of time and bring plenty of water. If you plan to make it all the way to the end, be prepared for a narrow trail on the ridge next to a steep scree slope that requires a bit of scrambling. The descent is quite rough on the knees. Overall great hike. Enjoy!

It was definitely more difficult than I anticipated toward the end. Wanted more switchbacks. But we made it! pack in more water than you think. We ran out.

lovely trail. lots to view. we took our 9month old son and he enjoyed the hike. it wasn't too bad in elevation and it was a easy hike.
