Great weather yesterday at Chasm Lake! micro spikes from trailhead to lake and I was glad to have my ice axe for the last half mile. Be careful and enjoy!

amazing winter hike. snow was loosely packed, not icy. I hiked in just boots with good grip. get out here when the snow is fresh, it's stunning!

Broke a new trail past the ridge to the lake after the most recent snow. Definitely slick and exposed, but manageable with microspikes. Beautiful winter hike!

Excellent canyon countryside. Not a well-marked trail. I ended up on several false trail branches, but that kind of added to the fun of exploration. Took several attempts to find the right trailhead due to closed roads, private roads, and lack of accurate coordinates. Almost zero cell coverage, so be prepared to be out of contact. I did the loop clockwise as recommended by several who said it was better to accomplish the sketchy/rougher parts of trail near the start when fresh. There were two places where landslips had mostly taken out the trail, but there’s been some rudimentary work at making the trail passable. Plenty of evidence of bears and coyotes. Several creek crossing made keep dry feet a bit of a challenge.

Challenging hike with beautiful views! If you have a normal compact car, you’ll have to hike the Spruce Lakes Trail before getting to where the Mohawk Lakes Trail actually starts. From there, it’s a lot of climbing uphill with steep rocks, but so worth it. Definitely make sure you see the waterfall on your way up (there’s a sign for it). The lower lake was pretty easy to get to, but the trail is a little hard to see/follow for the upper lake. Saw quite a few people fishing at the upper lake when we got there. Loved it!

Excellent hike!

Great hike for a bunch of us flatlanders (we are from RI)! Gorgeous day and views were awesome. Last 1/3 of hike up was in snow which made it challenging as well as the thrill of sliding down a few steep patches. Have driven by so many times; it was great to finally hike to the top.

A must do

Snow packed, great trail to upper lake. Traction was ideal, snowshoes not necessary at all. Clocked 9.9m, 2100’.

Hiked this trail 4 days ago. It was icy with light snow coverage. I used micros which helped a great deal. The frozen waterfall was beautiful!! A great winter hike. I look forward to doing this hike in the spring.

Really enjoyed each time we’ve visited

Want to test your new microspikes out? This is a great hike. Hard because it ends with an incline. Strava mapping wasn't as great at calculating the distance/elevation gain- was more than 2 miles off (said we hike 11.2 versus the listed 8.7). Enjoy!

A nice little trail that overlooks 7 Falls. The scenery is perfect, overlooking Manitou and Colorado Springs in the distance.

The only thing was that the trail gets very gravelly at the top of one of the slopes. With no guard rail or anything, it could take a little miss-footing to send someone over the edge of the cliff. So be careful of that.

Lovely conditions on 1/5/19 - snow covering 95% of trail to upper Chicago lake. Most of trail has packed snow, due to heavy use, but adequate to snowshoe, which we did for part, but using micro spikes was ideal due to rocky trail (particularly, the type that have crampons - I use Hillsound, rather than little yaktracks). I snowshoed on the lower reservoir lake surface, which looked to be solid ice. However, use caution...

Just finished this trail today. After bridge 6 u need spikes on the shoes as it is really icy. We went 1 mile past bridge 7 and it was awesome. My hike today was 4.5 hours, 1,271 ascent and 4.7 miles total. Great day

Hiked the trail 1/5/19 with spikes. All the way to the lake, the snow on the trail is packed down and snowshoes aren't really necessary unless you want to hike off trail or maybe you're hiking the day after a snowfall. We hiked a little of the Devils Thumb trail from the junction of the Kings Lake trail and snowshoes would be handy there.

Parking is along the side of the road up to and just below the junction of Hessie Road and the 4th of July Road (which are closed). On a weekend day, get there by 8 am or earlier to avoid crowds and parking. We were done around 10:30 am and from the beginning of signage for roadside parking to the junction it was lined with cars, with still more people coming up and trying to find a park spot.

Did this hike on 1/4/2019 and was beautiful. Great snow hike. My girlfriend and I just had YakTrax and boots but saw many others with cross-country skis and snowshoes.

For those with Two-Wheel Drive cars: I have a Toyota Celica and made it to the parking just fine but word of advice would be to park sooner rather than later. At the end of the trail is a hill to turn around. I couldn’t make it up this hill due to snow and ice so I had to reverse my way out. Once you see a parking spot, take it.

Overall great trail and friendly people. The snow made it more of a moderate-hard trail mainly due to the steep grades and slippery snow.

Loved this trail. Easy to follow. Packed down nicely. Probably could’ve done just fine without snowshoes up until closer to the lake, but I was really thankful to have them.

Great hike overall. Brought snowshoes in anticipation of a lot of snow but micro spikes worked well since the trail was packed snow. Definitely coming back this summer.

Classic hike. GREAT views towards the top - bit of a grind on the way. Bit of scrambling to get to the lake shore.

Easy snowshoe with some decent views. Crowds and parking are kind of a drag.

Easy hike near Denver. Falls aren't awesome. Worth a trip to get some Vitamin N.

UPDATED: Never found our car keys, but have already contacted the number below and they were not ours. Thank you all for checking in with me though! Happy 2019, and Hike On!

The snow was quite packed and I had no problem hiking this trail using micro spikes without snow shoes.

My first snowshoeing experience! So much fun!

Beautiful trail, but it’s really easy to miss the falls. Look for the sign!
