Great trail!!

July - Summer

This is a nice little loop trail that has some good viewpoints of the lake.

The forest is fairly dense at first but opens up as you continue the loop. Once out of the trees it is very open and can be a bit hot depending on the time of day. If you have dogs remember to bring water for them as there isn’t any water access on the trail.

The trail itself is pretty easy, only a small elevation gain and there are a couple of benches to sit and rest on.

Parking is nice and open, but remember that this is a state park, so fees are required.

Overall not something I would go out of my way for, but if your in the area it’s worth giving it a hike.

This trail is relatively easy to follow. wildlife can be seen, plenty of beautiful wildflowers, and the views of the lake and falls are idyllic. Beware in the summer, though. The trail is overgrown in many parts and infested with ticks! when all was said and done, I found upwards of 15 on my dog, another 15 on my friends dog, and my friend found 4 on herself! Not sure if it was worth it, I think I much prefer this hike in the winter when it is snow covered!

Super easy and well maintained. My kids had fun.

This is a really fun family hike with a few steep sections. Dogs don't have to be on the leash and you never really run into others out there which is my favorite part about this shorter trail. Snow is all gone and the road is clear for the season! There are even decent bathrooms at the trailhead so it gets 5 stars for that! Fishing was great here last summer too. This hike is BEAUTIFUL in the fall!

Many fallen trees across the trails so you’ll end up bushwhacking frequently. Lots of ticks and mosquitos but the views of the lake and wildlife are worth it. Saw a bald eagle and had a run in with an angry snapping turtle on the trail.

Would agree with this being marked as an 'easy' trail. As people have said, there are about 2-3 instances where trail is not clearly marked. Your best bet is to follow the map in the app, and even then expect to backtrack a few wrong turns.

Beautiful trail!

Great short trail to get out of town for a few hours with the dog. There are a few intersections where the trail is unmarked but not too difficult to navigate. Popular trail to run in to mountain bikers but they all were happy to share the trail.

Stay on the trail and don’t deviate from it! I saw one person leaving when my dog and I got there. Very remote. BRING WATER. There’s no shade and no water access. Also, watch for swarms of mosquitos! Wear pants and boots. Best time to go is early in the morning or evening when it’s cooler.

The trail I would say is moderate difficulty not easy.

Great Hike. Took the kids. Not too busy!

Great hike. Had a blast, but as stated in other reviews some signs would have been nice. I'll know where I'm going next time. If you go, take some bug spray. Swarming all over especially by the creek.

Good hike with awesome views of the lake

Great trail! Clear paths and several options to take. The forest floor is beautiful, although there is a lot of felled timber. It’s the kind of setting where you almost expect to see a hobbit or elf peeking out. Small stream running through and towering pines. Very enjoyable.

Close to town, with lots of options for a variety of skills levels. Favorite part was probably the different between the trails on either side of the parking area. One is very densely wooded and mossy, the other is open with views of a private pond.

Loved the trail. Nice easy hike with some climb to it but not strenuous at all. I look forward to taking my grandkids

Easy hike, even in the snow, beautiful views and close to town! It's perfect for a short hike!

One of my favorite trails in the area. Great hike, but saw two cougars this evening. Watch out and keep small children and pets close- especially at dusk.

Went on a Tuesday and had the trail to myself (besides the whitetail deer I saw). Great spot to hike and take in the view

5.00 per vehicle per day, Idaho residents can purchase an Idaho State Passport for 10.00 at DMV and get free day use at all Idaho state parks. Out of state residents pay $40.00 per year and can purchase online or at any state park.
These passes also give you a break on camping fees.
If you don’t want either there is a self pay station
Fees are in effect year round.

Great winter option for us today! Beautiful saw no one else on the trail would recommend

10/24/17 - there weren’t any signs to show where the trail starts so we walked the road and then eventually went down on the old unused railroad tracks. The tracks run along the river. Beautiful fall colors. Easy but watch your step on the tracks.

There is no markings at all, for the hike. We followed the map. Alltrails provide. There is a dirt road and atv road. There is a railroad closer to the river. The view of the area and river is amazing.

A beautiful short hike!

It would be really nice if there were trail markers. It's a lovely hike with hills and trees!

Um, this place is pretty awesome. I liked it more than James T. Slavin or Turnbull which are also in the general area. Saw my first moose and almost 20 deer sightings! Bald eagle took off right in front of me, and more. The views of the lake are awesome, especially if you take one of the trails that follows along it. Not all the trails are mapped. Just look for faint lines in the grass. In fact, that's what most of the trails are, which is sort of a slight con. Got TONS of seed pods in my shoes and socks and was a bit worried about stepping on a snake.

A good, easy hike. There were a couple elevated areas that made my heart rate spike, but not too much to handle. I could have easily gone again. Pretty views toward the top.
