Trail is all gradual uphill around the last half mile it gets kinda hard because your going steep up but it it worth it! I would consider this moderate not easy depending on you. The woods toward the fireplace are very beautiful reminds me of a fairytale.

trail washout, adds about 1.5 mile detor

Hike up was beautiful. Moderate difficulty is a good description. Get there early. We parked at 630am and shared the entire walk up with one other person (and a quick bear sighting). On the way down we passed a ton of people. Parking lot was filled with people circling for spots at 12. Beautiful views at the top!

Love it beautiful views a little bit crowded but is worth the effort

Great waterfall hike with lots of wildflowers.

super easy. great with the kids

Great hike! Few bugs. Moderate incline and lots of shade. Great views of Mt Rainier. Nice lake to play in. I’d give it 4.5 stars. Snow Lake is actually prettier. Toilets at the trailhead :)

Spectacular view of the lake and a nice workout. 1hr 45 min up to overlook (3+mi) and 1hr 20 min down. Lots of bugs. I wore bug spray and still got a couple of bites. I didn’t see a bathroom. Will definitely go again and head down to the lake next time.

Great hike as always!!! A lot of bugs this time , don’t stop or you will get bit. 7/17/18

Such a beautiful trail!!! Would love to go back someday.

Beautiful views but we had to walk a mile or so to access the beginning of the trail since it was closed for repairs

Excellent hike with an amazing view at the top on a clear day!! Took me 2 hours and 45 minutes up with my dog needing breaks from the heat toward the top. The old trail up was pleasantly difficult and hard to find the trail toward the top. Diamond markers helps keep you on track thank goodness. I took the new trail down with many switch backs. That portion alone was 5.3 miles. I think this hike is longer than what is stated but wonderful none the less.

Longer than expected but a great workout. The boulders were probably my favorite part, sooo much fun to scramble up! TONS of bugs though.

Did this hike yesterday! So enjoyable. I arrived around 7:30, I was one of three cars on the Monday morning. It felt like I had the trail all to myself for most of my ascent up. It was only until the last half of my lake loop and my descent down the trail, did I actually start to see more people and groups.

Seems to get packed quickly the later in the day it gets. I can’t imagine the traffic on a weekend. I was thankful that I wore my most water resistant boots. Some casual stream crossing, water fall gazing, and splashing around was well worth it. The trail was very well maintained and I personally enjoyed the mixture of man made bridges / stairs in contrast to the occasional array of rocks and stones.

Great hike! very challenging as its switchbacks almost the whole way up. We reapplied bug spray 6 times, they are vicious. we had our dogs on leash the whole way up and on the way back down we let them off due to the rocky scramble. We ran into a park ranger on the way down and she told us that it was not required to have the dogs on leash, which was comforting and I wish I would have known sooner. I tracked the hike on my phone, it was a total of 12 miles round trip from car to the lake and back. Be prepared!

Hiked this yesterday. Lots of stuff blooming now. Switchbacks are hard work if you're not regularly hiking.

1. Tracked this hike and it's a total of 17 miles from car to lake and back to car. You hike 2.5 miles from your car to the actual trailhead.
2. Left at @10:30am, Lake @1:30pm, hung out for an hour, then got back to our car @6:30pm
3. Absolutely the most hardest hike I've ever done, but stunning and rewarding.
4. Bring a suit! You've got to jump in the lake, it's definitely worth it.
5. (tip) Some parts of snow, but dig toe down as you cross, at least that's what I did
6. (tip) The descent is hard on your feet!
7. Bug spray is a must. They're super aggressive out there.

Great hike! Brought a couple of dogs and they loved it. Especially the extra hike to the water. It was pretty easy overall. Some parts are pretty narrow and we got eaten by mosquitos. But it was very pretty!

This hike is tougher than others make it sound. I would do this again, earlier or later. I went at 7 AM and it was still crowded. Gushing with people when we came back and tons of people who didn't pick up their dog poop! The trail even provides bags at the bottom. It was cloudy so I didn't get to experience much on top. Perfect for those who are in the city to get away, but I wouldn't drive more than 1 hour to do this hike. The bonus is that you MAY get to see paragliders.

Hiked today and it was gorgeous. I got there at about 7-7:30 and there weren't too many people there, but tons of people got there around 9 or so. Multiple waterfalls and incredible lake at the top. Definitely recommend hiking shoes if you have them. There's lots of walking on rocks, wet rocks, and over creeks. Also, don't forget to pay for parking or have a pass.

Very very mellow. Plenty of shade. Would probably be great for kids.

Fantastic hike! The views from the top are stunning and the mailbox truly is iconic. We went up and back on the new trail and my watch clocked it at a bit over 11 miles. This seems to be a trend for this hike, but I'm not sure. Would still highly recommend, just know what you're getting yourself into. That being said, the trail is incredibly well maintained, making it easy to hike--especially towards the top/steepest part.

beautiful trail with wonderful views. the switch backs were gradual which was nice but still steep and long even when coming back from the lake. Bring a minimum of 2L of water!! Made this mistake and ended up eating snow on the way back. the section in snow was completley manageable in runners.

I loved this hike minus the very rocky trail most of the time. A small incline going in. Not hard at all. Must follow the rock arrow formation and two red ribbon tags on the trees to get to the falls though. This hike took about 5-6 hours in and out.

Amazing hike with lots of wildlife and great panoramic views at the top.

always a beautiful hike

Went on 7/15/18 to catch the sunrise! First ones up there and totally worth it, the route we took was about 7.8 miles, went up the summer route and came down the winter side (what I would recommend). Get there early, before 8:30 at least. Hard hike but worth it, once you get to the Meadows the hardest parts are behind you!

Beautiful trail! The waterfall is absolutely beautiful! I’d rate this trail as moderate. Make sure that you have a good pair of hiking boots with a good grip. There’re a several sports that are a bit steep and some of the spots might have smooth, slippery rocks.
Make sure to bring a bug spray.
The hike is not that long but pretty exiting! If you’re still full of energy there’s Ape Canyon trail right next to it with gorgeous views of Mt St Helens.

Arrived around 8am Sat morning and snagged the last parking spot. Small lot for such a popular spot. Apparently there's parking in the campground across the way. There are bathrooms at the TH. So just FYI...I found this a moderate ++ hike for me...I'm 70. Took me some time to get thru the rocky section mostly going up but coming down was really hard on my knees. Lots of tree roots and wet rock surfaces to maneuver. OK...enough. The trees are wonderful. awesome views, the smell of the forest, the waterfalls and the lake at the top with some lingering snow on the slope. All beautiful!!
