Ran in Sept 2018. Starting from hwy 238 the trail starts off as an old overgrown fire road. After a mile or so it turns into single track and is much more pleasant. elevation gain for entire trail is probably close to 1500 ft (not 350 or whatever this app says). the first couple miles are all uphill and moderately steep.

awsome views of the valley!

Perfect for an afternoon hike!

Amazing

It was an okay trail. The trail itself is a little hard to find, but it was pretty to walk through and shady for the most part in the section in was in.

Good partial day hike, took about 2.5 hours to do the loop. Perfect to wear the dogs out and make sure I get a goodnight sleep as well. There were quite a few people but it was also Labor Day. The road there is mostly paved and gravel in some spots, any car could easily get out there tho. I think it would be perfect for kids as well, maybe plan a little more time tho.

Not for children under 6 years old. Easy for adults and all uphill. loved the scenery! The trail is wide enough to ride bikes with friends or bring your pets.

Trail is easy to get to... no 4WD needed.. and well maintained.

Drove up to do this trail today and the road was closed due to the Hendrix Fire

Super secluded so you’ll probably have the trail to yourself. Totally worth the drive up the mountain to the trail head. Some seriously cool spots along this trail.

Beautiful views! Can’t wait to go back

It’s kinda cool if you like heavily traveled granite trails that lead to manmade cellphone towers.
There are some good views along the way. My concern is it’s intensity rating of “hard.” Sure, there’s inclines (it’s a mountain) but unless you’re walking the trail on your hands, it’s no big deal.
Worth the 45 minutes up and back on a lazy Sunday morning.

I can’t rate the trail-just the navigation to the trailhead, I linked to maps from all trails & ended up on a remote poorly maintained road. I was in an SUV & rode through deep ruts & over dead tree limbs but after 3 mi on this road I encountered a deep washout that I knew was impassable so had to reverse out until I was able to turn around. So, if you want to try this trail, see if there is a safer way in. I gave up & found an easy trail down the road a few miles..
maybe this is why there were no current reviews?

Beautiful hike with nice even trails and loads of butterflies and wildflowers. We hiked in thinking the weather was fine and then a lightning storm came through. Not the safest place to be for that, but the dark and wild sky with the clearing at the lookout was surreal. I will definitely hike this again next time I'm in town.

Great trail. So much cooler than the valley. Lots of shade. Love being at the top lookout.

Trail was slightly overgrown, the amount bumblebees and flies was insane! Considering the whole valley is on fire to the west the smoke was minimal.

Beautiful meadows of sage, corn lillies and lupin, forests of evergreens and aspens, andcamazing views of shasta, mt ashland, pilot rock and mcloughlin in the last two miles to the peak. I call the top Cafe Wagner because it’s a great place for lunch.

I loved this trail. The first two to three miles are the hardest but then it smooths out a little just in time for the views. Finished by 10 am on what is supposed to be quite a hot day but there was plenty of shade. I was the first one on the trail this morning, so I ate most of the spider webs (so don’t be first if that bothers you). Great views the whole way up but nothing compares to the views at the top.

nice switch back trail. they should renamed to poison oak trail..

Wow. It’s as good as everyone has been saying on here. Definitely not easy. So much of it’s uphill. But the views are amazing. I did this and Crater Lake while I was in the area, and it was a perfect two day combination.

Just like everyone has said it’s definitely a strenuous hike since your climbing the entire time. Plenty of places to take a break in the shade.

Glass still all over the summit but I did take some back down with me.

it was very nice hike

very technical and lots of switch backs good to ride early in the morning

Great hike! So beautiful and not crowded! The views of the taller peaks and valleys from the top are excellent.

An extraordinarily beautiful and rewarding hike. Not too difficult, but medium length. Make sure you’re acclimated!
Tough drive in, need four wheel drive and a resilient stomach

Very nice and diverse trail. Loads of wildflowers, butterflies, birds, excellent views. Lush green forest opens up to some mountain meadows, then drier open hillside showing wildfire effects from several years ago. Saw a baby black bear on the way up to the trailhead. All around well worth it and good for kids.

Did this my kids, my two year old walked most the way! View is fantastic! Recommend starting in the early morning. Took us a little over 3 hours.

This was far from a difficult hike. It really should be labeled as easy. Very little elevation gain and a great maintained trail. We seen quite a few families out here and bicyclists.

Diverse terrain. It starts in the forest and opens up. Lots of wildflowers late into the season. No grizzlies, but I did see a black bear a couple of years ago!
