Fun trail! Packed with snow but beautiful nonetheless. For some areas having trekking poles would make it easier.

trail is snow covered but not icy! beautiful as can be!

Gorgeous hike! I would suggest trekking poles if anything, and snow shoes would help, last half mile/mile is less packed down and you will definitely fall in a bit! Speaking from experience!

We started at the Beaver Brook trail which is 3 miles downhill and back up the Chavez which was 2 miles uphill. We went 1/6/19 and there trail had some snow and ice in some areas. The trail is a mix of flat trail, rocks you need to hug or climb over and crossing streams. Just be mindful that the last 2 miles have quite an incline uphill and it’s not easy. I am looking forward to doing it again in summer as it is well shaded and I may be in better shape

Beautiful!

Amazing trail you have to try. Little bit everything on this hike. It was bit sketchy in some areas because of snow and ice over some rocks, but overall it’s a great trail and will be back.

Beautiful easily accessible snowshoe trail. Went midday on a perfectly sunny day with my mom. We took the uphill portion to the hut slowly but enjoyed coming up through the pine forest and then finding views closer to the hut. Trail easy to follow. Only saw a few other snowshoe groups on the way up and then a handful of people at the hut backcountry skiing. We didn’t much past the hut but trail continued to be well designated. Highly recommend.

Beautiful hike that crossed over the creek several times. It was snowy/icy in several areas. Starts off downhill then the last mile and a half or so is uphill. Well maintained but could use better signage.

Great hike with multiple creek crossings. Went right at the start of the loop and it was 85% downhill and flat, easy. Probably more on the moderate end the other way. Recommend going in the summer to see the awesome creek. It was frozen during my hike but still was a gorgeous hike! Moderate hikers and dogs.

I was able to jog this up and down in just running shoes with a little caution. It’s gorgeous in the winter! Make sure to go the extra couple hundred feet to sprouting rock.

Went last week. Could not get all the way to the trailhead by car, parked .7 miles down the road. the Snow was good but the trail is hard to find after about 1.5 miles from the car, so we didn’t get very far past the trailhead. My trail finding skills might be novice, and I didn’t feel like getting lost in the winter. But, I look forward to trying again either this winter or in the summer!

Beautiful views, varied terrain, busy with hikers and dogs, some tricky spots, several amazing rock stairs, very little snow or ice on the trail on the day we went...It definitely satisfies the need to get some peace in nature!

This was a pretty hike. Not well posted and we lost track of the trail a few times...which would likely be more difficult right after a snow. Easy access from the city.

Upper bowls were nice skiing. Skinned all the way up. The drainage is nice skiing all the way down.

Best hike ever!

This has to be one of the best hikes in Colorado. The trail head is easy to access and the trail is short but steep w/ some scrambling. I did see children on the hike so that trail is family-friendly but the steep, sharp rocks would not be ideal for dogs. I completed this hike in about 3 hours in the summer so it was fairly hot - wear proper shoes and bring lots of water. The views are definitely worth the steep climb!

One the best hikes ever for our family (completed on 12/26). Totally worth every single step to a winter wonderland. Hiked with my wife and kids 12 and 6. We took plenty of stops for the kids on the way up. Some areas were icy and steep. Strongly recommend good quality snow boots with traction devices attached to them. We got ours from Summit Canyon Mountaineering in Glenwood Springs. They were worth every penny we paid.

You can’t say you’ve hiked in Colorado without hiking this trail. One of my all time favorites!!

Good trail and challenging. The actual nature part is very scenic and enjoyable some of the hike is a little more than moderate. Personally not enough signs to point you in the right direction to get your proper hike. Had fun fun and think would redo hike.

Completed 22 Dec 2018. Peaceful with beautiful, calm views of the forest, creek and occasional open views of the mountains. If you go the Beaver trail to Chavez route you will quickly find the back half challenging your lower body as you ascend drastically. My only notable fault is the constant slanted trail that really rubs on your ankles after the 3rd mile. It's nothing that a good bath can't take care of when you get home though. Recommended! Hike on :)

Huge coniferous trees and rushing mountain brooks made this trail gorgeous all the way through. My favorite part of visiting Glenwood Springs, hands down! My mother had a bit of a hard time "going straight up", but even she said it was worth it.

super fun, short snowshoeing trek! we saw an amazing sunset!

Hiked 12/7. This is a challenging uphill trail. We are experienced hikers from Boulder and we’re still out of breath! Must use spikes or some kind. You would not be able to use snowshoes. Totally worth the effort - we had the lake all to ourselves and it is just as gorgeous, probably more so, than the photos show. Recommend continuing up to spouting rock after visiting the lake - it’s about a 2 minute walk up to a beautiful waterfall. One thing that doesn’t get mentioned often about this trail is the canyon - it’s stunning, especially in the snow. This hike is definitely worth the hype!

Perfect area to go on a run because of easy sidewalks. The views were amazing and I had a great time take pictures! Definitely going back

Snowshoed half of trail 12/13/18 but unfortunately a storm rolled in and we got whited out and had to turn back. If you plan on snowshoeing be sure to have a solid pair with lots of grip. My MSR’s did great but my wife has a pair of Tubbs with one set of spikes under ball of foot and none on cage. She slipped and fell several times on side slopes

Awesome hike!

Snowshoes to the top today, great conditions!

My husband and I did this hike yesterday afternoon. We were surprised to see only two other cars at the trailhead when we arrived a around 12:30pm. We saw two hikers on the way to the lake and then had lake/waterfall to ourselves. I thought for sure it would be crowded and was happy to be wrong. The trail was snow packed. Visually, it looked like a winter-wonderland. The trees were lightly dusted in snow. We both had our yaktraks on and I was thankful for them multiple times throughout the hike. Definitely some slippery spots, especially on the way back down.
