beautiful hike! we made it to the top, past the helipad. Conditions were good but just a bit slippery on the way down through the trees, but I did it without spikes and was fine. the views are amazing from the top, would definitely recommend

January 19, 2019: beautiful conditions, snow packed and a hard assent but well worth it. Trail was worn so it still sees occasional adventure seekers that don't let the closure warning deture them. You will be the only ones on the hill, we were, but when else will you ever get a chance to experience this mountain all to yourself?
The summit was very windy, felt exillerating pushing through the big temperature change from 2 or 3 on the ground to quite fridge at the peak, dress accordingly.... Some deep snow sections ☺️

Trail is good. It gets handsy when you start climbing around the mountain. Lots of opportunity to go to sub peaks without wasting much time. There was a little bit of snow but not much. Views are awesome! Great weather!

Nice day out there! Made it to the ridge, super windy. The trail is manly dry but some snow/ice patches, i recommend spike & pole!

Would do it again repeatedly.

Did it clockwise today. Very windy once on the ridge. Good views.

We hiked Tamnuska loop today (January 13, 2019). Most sections were dry. However, spikes are needed to reach its summit.

I want to hike Ha Ling this weekend with the nice weather. is it actually closed or can it stil be done?

This hike is insane. Quite scrambly at the top, so careful on a super windy day! Very difficult, had to stop many times, but great work out and beautiful hike

Several cars were broken into at the trailhead parking lot today.

Have been hiking this for 20yrs, but this was the first time with snow and ice. Bring spikes and decent poles, some gnarly ice latches patches on the backside. Shoulder and front side were pretty clear, unfortunately very little scree left these days...

We went counterclockwise but didn’t make it quite to the top because it was Very windy as we went past the 1.5 km mark. Many trail options -steeper or less steep or climbing areas. Stayed to left for more trees and things to grab when scrambling up. No snow or ice so no crampons needed. Alright view but not nice to see the ex Shaw factory right there. Awesome terrain though.

Bryce, good to know you made to the top. It was windy up there. I will be back and do the ridge walk in summer.

Did this hike on New Years Day, 2019. Weather -2, windy on the ridge and very cold at the top. This is our first ever mountain climb and we found it quite difficult, highly recommend poles down. Slippery conditions throughout the trail otherwise dust and dirt covered with packed snow patches throughout. We over packed by a long shot, unless you're staying at the top overnight pack light. Absolutely loved it and will be back, the views are worth the pain.

We spent the last 2 days at the Elizabeth Parker Hut. The ski in is not track set and we had about 15cm of snow in the past 2 days. The road in has been skier set and with the number of users the track can be challenging.

It took about 5 hours in from the parking lot to the hut a total of 12 km. We skied with 5 families and lots of kids. It was an amazing experience. If you are heading to the huts then you should head out early and enjoy the time on the trail rather than rush. There was so many views and pictures to be had along the way.

Great trail, wonderful views, sufficiently challenging!!

Hiked May long, steep clear trail to follow and many people along the way.
Great to do as a half day hike as it’s relatively short.
Took us 3 hours at a moderate fitness level and as a first hike of the year.
Curious to do again this spring to see what work has been done for trail development.
As stated by others aim to hike and summit early to avoid crowds. We started at 9, and came across many people on the trails, so aim for earlier and you’ll be coming down as everyone is headed up!
Keep in mind it’s a leg burning up and down as it’s constant elevation all the way up, so bring good shoes and lots of water!
Enjoy

I am making this specific review 3/5 only because the trail is absolutely NOT for dogs. When I am looking for hikes that are dog friendly, I am under the assumption they can complete the trail. It is 110% not for dogs. It was challenging to get to the chains and then when I realized we definitely weren’t getting across that.. the challenging high turned to pissed off. Getting us back down the way we came was stressful and dangerous for both of us.
Also, the entire trail once you are out of the trees is so poorly marked that unless you know where you are going or following footprints, you would get lost.
I am pretty disappointed with this hike because of those two issues.
Bring poles and microspikes.
My next review may be better when I don’t have my girl - if I decide to try this hike again.

Did the loop counter-clock wise and there were a few tricky sections with some exposure heading up. As many mentioned before don't miss the red diamond but it doesn't necessarily mean you have to go up right there but within a 20 foot radius you do, pick the spot you feel most comfortable and ensure your feet have good holds then push your way up by bouldering. From there, you have one more spot where you have to climb up a crack in the rock and also ensure your feet have holds and go for it! the way down the snow was the trickiest part as right now it's a thick crust with soft dry snow below so just take your time. Beautiful views, and endless ridgelines, with multiple peaks (or false summits). The tallest summit is Grant MacEwan so save your summit beers for that one if you bring anything! You'll know when you find the time capsule which is currently full to the brim.

Did this one on Dec 22. Fantastic little scramble that we decided to do clockwise. The hike up to the ridge is very straightforward without much scrambling. Once you start heading down Heart Ridge, things change dramatically. A bit of route finding and some interesting scrambling sections. If you take your time and be mindful these sections won’t be a problem. Very little snow on the trail if any, more concentrated on the top. Have fun !!

Amazing hike...loved the Scree...

We did the peak in summer. Steep..best for cardio. Awesome views

Amazing hike would not recommend for beginners.

Nov 25, 2018. I hiked up to the rock chute today. The trail was snow covered with a few icy patches. I was able to make it to the chute without any spikes. I wore my Microspikes on the way down which was helpful. Overall the trail was in very good shape.

went on Nov 10th. Temperature 2 degrees. Sunny and chilly when windy around ridge. Slippery in shade and not slippery when sunny. we saw 10 mountain goats eating and sunning tanning. Poles are a must especially when going down. Took us 6 hours to finish the whole thing. Trail is unmarked. Use your own discretion where is the trail. Pack lots of water and food. Peeing off the cliff is not recommended as it is a popular trail unless you have someone guarding for you. Great views of other mountains - it is worth the climb and scrambling. lots of Scrambling. no bears or mountain lions sighted.

hiked this circuit today, Nov 10. Snow covered trail and the scramble to the summit is intense. definetly wish I packed extra socks and gloves, didn't expect knee deep snow. AMAZING views. not for the faint hearted. took us newbies 5 hrs to complete. didn't give this 5 stars only because lack of direction during decent from summit. golden eagles are big.

Some challenging scrambling near the top, but the view is amazing!

Nov 10, 2018: super awesome!

Hiked the road last weekend, about 1/2ft snow the first km, then goes down to almost nothing and then 3/4ft snow the last two km coming up to the lake. Spent the weekend at Elizabeth Parker Hut and much more snow from the lake to the hut- but so worth it!

Enjoyed Heart Mountain, Horseshoe Trail hike. We did this back in May 2018. We did the couple harder scrambles, we did go counter-clockwise (west to east) and found the ♦️ painted on the side of a cliff, climbed up there... I’m sure we got off the trail a few times. Scramble up and down the other side. This hike is in FULL Sun, and can be very windy. Bring lots of water, and some food. It turned into a full day hike for us by time we found our way back to parking. Breathtaking views the whole time, took lots of pictures. Loved it! It was a challenge for us.

Awesome trail. Just did it yesterday, I recommend spikes as it is pretty snowy and icy going up. The views are amazing and going down through the scree makes for a quick and fun decent.
