This trail was very beautiful. Lots of breathtaking views and it is not a hard hike. The trail can be really muddy so bring shoes you don't mind getting dirty.

Nice paved road up to the top with excellent views!

great undergrowth and tropical forest views, not many vista views

Great hike and beautiful views!

Amazing views! Great for all ability levels, including stroller pushing, dog walking, and baby carrying people.

Trail was a lot of fun. It took me about 3 hours with some stoppage for breaks and pictures! The first mile and a half was pretty standard although expect a lot of incline walking. Once you reach the staircases you’ve got about .75 miles left but it’s mainly uphill from there.

This was my first time hiking this trail and I really didn’t expect to literally be climbing up the side of a mountain. It was a pretty dry day and on the way up I was definitely glad that I had worn hiking boots (a bit of grip) cloud cover came in so it started to rain on my way down and my boots were a godsend!

The hike to the lighthouse made for some amazing views. But the best pet was the alternative trail about half way up that led down tot the blowholes and natural pools that were at the shore line. People say it is crazy dangerous, but as long as you use common sense and take your time you shouldn’t have any problems. The water is amazing down low, and the views from the lighthouse were awesome. Easy hike to end the day with.

Hot, sweaty, Achilles’ tendon challenging walk if you struggle with plantar fasciitis. Gorgeous views and so worth it.

Great easy out and back paved hike. Steep but the lookout pull offs make you really not notice the climb. Great views at the end!!!

Easy paved trail with great views all the way up.

It took us less than 3 hours to complete the trail and we would definitely recommend it. We really enjoyed the views and especially hiking on the ridge of the mountain. The trail is really muddy. It gets a little challenging at some point but not that difficult.

Wow! This trail is awesome. Dress to get wet. Bring about a camelback’s worth of water. Bring some high calorie snacks. Don’t wear shoes you don’t want saturated in rich brown mud. There are parts of the trail that made me wish I had cleats on my shoes. The lower part of the hike can be pretty hot, but the peaks are relatively cool because of the breeze. If it is overcast or raining then it will feel great, but the mud will be even slicker. Kids can make it to the waterfalls, but they would have to be pretty touch to complete the rest. Safe travels!

Well kept and beautiful! Parking was easy. This hike is STEEP!

SUPER muddy, wet, slippery hike. Easy for the first mile +, then lots of washed out stairs. Worth every step and fall through the mud once you reach the 360 view at the top.

Expect to get super dirty. I’m not sure how bad it is when it hasn’t rained in a few weeks, but some spots are all mud due to no sunlight through the trees.

Go to the top peak. Make it up the steep straits and use the ropes. It’s worth it!

BE CAREFUL GOING DOWN! Super slick. Expect to fall ALOT. Awesome hike as long as you’re okay with being muddy :)

Logs by order of Mountain Ray.

Just climb up from the base of the third waterfall, cross it a couple of times, and you will come to the crater rim.

Nice walk, great view.
i recommend it.

Locals supposedly say this is the one of the best views of the entire island and I can definitely see why. The views at the top are gorgeous and you literally get to see a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire island of Oahu.

The trailhead is located in an affluent neighborhood which kind of reminded me of Beverly Hills houses. The trail starts off in a forest with trees overarching each other and after a few miles it becomes quite an adventure with you ascending up steep and muddy staircases. There's even a section where you need to use a rope to help pull yourself up the stairs.

This trail is so lush and green throughout that it will have you constantly looking in awe of your surroundings. There was alot of mosquitoes/gnats on this trail so recommend that you bring your spray or have long pants and long sleeves while doing this. It became quite annoying. When you get to the top near the antenna, make sure to keep going just a bit further where you will find a bench with the most amazing viewpoint. Be careful on the descent down as alot of the trail is slippery because of the mud!

Beautiful safe and easy walk

Hiked it counter clockwise and got to the base of the third waterfall lost the trail from here and had to turn back the way we came. This trail is beautiful and quite rewarding, but is very wet, muddy, slow going, and can be VERY dangerous. Pack lots of water and snacks and start early. DO NOT hike this one alone.

Live here and a well experienced hiker

Simple tips:
- Research before going on this hike.
- Or go with someone that has done it before.
- Know the short loop back; so you don’t have to back track down the 3 waterfalls again (this is if you’re not doing the whole crater)

This is NOT a maintained trail. Be safe

Easy hike, paved all the way up—though a pretty decent incline. It’s Hawaii, the views are great no matter where you are.

A good easy walk with great views.

Easy paved hike with great views of the windward side and ocean views as well as Koko head. Can be really hot with the sun beaming then windy as you head up higher. Good quick hike with stunning views though! FYI the lighthouse itself isn’t accessible for some reason I though it was.

It’s a great hike for beginners. Half way through you have a really pretty view of the H3.

Extremely muddy and super long.. not as rewarding as other hikes in Hawaii.

The first mile is a dirt road which helps a whole lot. The next 1.5 miles is challenging but not difficult. The challenge is climbing so many steps. It takes a lot of endurance. The view looking back to the city was fantastic. Unfortunately, the clouds settled in towards the top. There was no view from the top. Worth doing if you want exercise and a challenging hike.

First hike and it was amazing. It wasn't over crowded. We started at about 3:00 and they had lots of places to stop and rest. It does get hot and not to much wind until you get towards the top. Bring water and enjoy the view.

As of 20 Oct 18 this trail is closed.

For my first hike ever it wasn’t bad. Paved and well maintained. Not a lot of people at 1200 and parking was easy. Saw some people swimming in the pools but I was not about to do that hike. Very kid friendly!
