Once on this trail you're committed to an all-uphill on rooted trail winding through the trees and up alongside the trail's namesake. Not an extremely tough trail by any means but you EARN the views once into the open high valley. Once at the tarn (located well up into the valley and below the far end of thr rocky edifice on the right side of the valley)....you can either kick-back, soak your 'dogs' in the icy water or head up toward the left ridge at the headwall of the valley and complete your journey with a summit of 5,000ft. South Suicide Peak along a pleasant ridge trail.

Great little trail. It's pretty easy with great reward.

Beautiful Day, low fog on the Inlet and Knik, but nice and clear all throughout the hike.
You start off pretty high up like Flattop sort of, since you take Mile Hi road and switchback up most of the elevation (2000ft?) idk...the trail starts with a few switchbacks through the treeline, but opens up pretty quickly. After a brief steep incline, you're on the ridge and can basically casually walk to the top. I just hike in boots with Korkers, and it was a breeze. Views of the surrounding mountains and Eagle River are just fantastic!
Alltrails says 4.3 miles, but they don't show it going to the actual peak...it may be that actual distance, but regardless this hike seems like a stroll compared to say Bird Ridge. I wasn't tired at all at the top.
It's a new favorite for sure.

Beautiful with snow in the winter. A bit icy so be careful!

Went up in mid September in the warm sunshine, was extremely stoked on the views from the top. Would recommend going all the way back along the ridge for more awesome sights.

I was here today. the paths were a little icy and snowy. but great condition. I seen 3 eagles.

This is a great little place to go walk your dog and practice your camera skills. Fall colors did not dissapoint! I walked it twice around just to get a little exercise and stretch the legs on a drive to Wasilla.

Moderate is appropriate. It is challenging towards the top, but I carry an extra 40 lb with the baby carrier. Beautiful views.

The trail was beautiful, fresh snow. We were there in the morning and the sun shining On the other mountains illuminated their profile beautifully! Windy at the top however you get to see an entire view of Turnigan arm from one side!! No snow on the road up their and it was a rough ride.

Quick beautiful hike. Definitely check the weather before you go because doing this trail after/during rainfall would make it a lot more dangerous. I would also consider it to be more moderate than easy. A little strenuous at times, but so worth it when you make it to the top.

walked all around the mine. very interesting

awesome trail! the peak of the trail has an awesome look out! did the trail in October, and it was a little chilly at the top but just plan accordingly for the weather.

Fun trail, but definitely not an easy trail. I would rate it as moderate. Starts off fairly steep with a little scree section before it mellows out and leads into a nice little rock garden. After that it’s fairly easy to get to the top. I would say the hardest part is coming down the first steep scree section. Took me way longer than it should! If you’re looking for great views and a fun challenge I recommend this mountain!

Nice trail with a great payoff within a short hike. The trail is easily followed but due to roots was a bit treacherous (it didn’t help that it had rained earlier in the day so the trail was slippery as well). The waterfall is pretty spectacular and with the mossy trees and rocks the whole area feels like a fairy garden. We followed the trail a bit further which seems to follow the creek but since it was wet and slippery we turned around so I’m not sure how far it actually goes.

Easily one of my favorite spots. Beautiful views, easy to access, free parking, dog friendly (on leash, poo bag stations) and very well maintained. Definitely recommend bug repellent in the spring and summer, especially at the back side of the lake.

Fun, challenging trail with beautiful views from the top

It’s steep alright, but the views are amazing. Worth repeating.

Beautiful hike with great views. Very steep near the top. Saw many sheep, a black bear and bald eagle.

beautiful hike. it is very easy to miss where the trail veers to the right near the top. we ended up following some sheep trail which was extremely rough and had to backtrack to find trail to top. would be nice if marked. cannot describe how beautiful the views are on this hike. very long day for my group, 9-9 1/2 hours

this is one of my favorite early morning or after work hikes. there are 2 routes, straight up and down or the lazy moose switchback which is 1 mile longer each way.

Easy, quick, beautiful hike!

Easy, well marked trail with the first quarter mile of asphalt. Bring a jacket if it's windy... the breeze off the glacier is cold!
Since the glacier is receding, the overlook gets you close, but not quite up to it. can still get great pics.

This trail was a bit difficult but so worth the steps and struggles (carrying a toddler)! Ha-Ha!!!! I loved the overlook of the lake and our son really enjoyed the views too! I am so glad we finally got around to do this trail and did not stop at the second bench of the Twin Peaks trail.
I would say this is a "must-do" hike, at least once. ;-)

Took the shorter trail to the left on the way up, very slippery with mud and very steep. Amazing views at the top. Took the lazy moose trail on the way down and we were happy we did. Not steep or slippery at all, round trip with breaks took us 4.5 hours
