This hike is easy to moderate there are some steeper switchbacks but it’s not that hard and it’s in the shade. It’s pretty dry up until the last 2-3 miles then it gets more green the higher you go up and it’s very pretty. The view of the lake is amazing. I didn’t swim in it because I fear of dead bodies and sharks in all water lol. If you have a dog bring them because they will love swimming in the water there was two waterfalls and areas of water going on the trail so if your dog is thirsty that is a plus. Rocky in some areas and the tree roots are coming up in some of the trail so watch your step. Did see beat skat that everyone was talking about but saw no bears at all

Trail has lots of steps, rocks and roots. It’s worth the hike to the river at the south side of the lake where there are a couple tent sites or keep going to Bear Lake or Deer Lake for a few more tent sites.

Beautiful views!

Awesome experience to hike the trail... We completed first 4 miles of hike within 2 hours but the final miles once we reach Rocky Mountain area it took more time and we got tired a lot... But with the cool breeze and most around we enjoyed our hike and finally reached the destination “Mailbox”... Nice to see people leave something that remind their visit in there... Since it was covered with mist/clouds we couldn’t get the view completely... Later when we started back, it was raining like anything and finally end up getting wet completely. While return we took the old trail or primitive trail thinking that we will get nice views... But the thing is that it is very steep and while coming down we need to extra careful and also we may get lost in the trail since the pathway is damaged and not clear if you don’t have a map downloaded offline... though it had few nice views I can say... Overall we had an awesome hike with great views, wild flowers, fruits and sceneries!!! It’s worth a hike!!! Remember to take a Discover pass with you.. Or else you get a parking ticket...

Loved the view!

Great hike, great reward at the top. The old trail up is a real test, but worth the effort just to be able to say you did it. The new trail is about twice as long as the old trail, but much more gradual. Taking the old trail up, I enjoyed the beauty of the forest while treating myself to huckleberries and blueberries along the way. Clearing the trees you will come to an open rock field that may look like the final push to the summit only to get up there and find out it gets steeper yet for another quarter mile or so before you get to take in the amazing view at the true summit. Lots of amazing spring flowers along the way as well.

Very rewarding hike with a beautiful lake. Would recommend getting an early start on this one to beat the bugs and crowds later in the day. Camping is not allowed at Blanca Lake however there is plenty of camping spots at Virgin Lake.

So so beautiful! But definitely the hardest hike I’ve ever done. It seemed like we would never get there but we finally did! I would definitely say take PLENTY of water. I drank 4 bottles by myself.
Check the weather before you go. We went yesterday and the weather was perfect. I think like 70-72 the whole day. I can’t imagine doing that hike in hotter weather. It would be miserable. We forgot bug spray and the bugs didn’t bother us too bad. I don’t think i have bites at all. They were only a nuisance when we stopped to take a breather. We got there and started on the trail around 11:30-12. We got back at 7:50. So it was a very long day but totally worth it. Make sure you wear hiking boots, if you don’t have any make sure you wear tennis shoes with GOOD SOLES.

The worst part was the 2 mile walk back because
It felt like it would never end.

Did this hike today. Started at 6:30am and it took us about 8.5 hours total, including about an hour at the lake. The climb up was strenuous, but it was all well maintained switchbacks. Once you reach the top of the switchbacks, there is a meadow, then Virgin Lake, then the trail down to Blanca lake. The hike is not technical and there are even stairs at a few points. It was well worth it for the view of the lake and several vistas along the way. I would recommend getting an early start to avoid bugs and crowds. There were only two other people at the lake when we got there around 11, and the sun lit up the lake closer to noon. We weren't attacked by any bugs until we started back down the mountain, and it was a lot busier later in the day too. Happy hiking!

this is 11miles round trip if you take new trail. take plenty of water. last mile is hard climb, in the open and rocky area. overall worth the experience.

Please be aware the trail app takes you to the WRONG DESTINATION, please DONT FOLLOW it.

If you’re using high way 2 from cashmere; go past the Skykomish ranger station and turn right after the station. Follow the road for about 13 miles, it will turn into a dirt road. At the end of the road you will walk about 2.5 miles to the trail head and then about 7 miles round trip to Blanca Lake.

If coming from Goldbar; get to mile mark 50 then turn left and follow the same route as stated above.

It sprinkled and then pored rained on ya the last 1.5 miles. It wasn’t worth it but I bet on a clean day it’s nice.

Good luck to all hikers and please be safe.

Challenging but very satisfying once you finish. Went up and back on the new trail making the total miles around 13.

Well let's say I will never do this hike again. It was all rainbows and butterflies for the first 6 hours then shit went down hill from there. By the end if this hike I hated hikes, my 3 friends, and mailboxes. I never want to see a mailbox again. If ever I get the urge to see a mailbox I'm going to just fill up a random box with shit and take a selfie! Also, throwing this out there if you ever urge to see a white mailbox come to my house and I'll let you fill my box up with random shit and take a selfie. We went up the old trail. We were quite thankful for the white triangles! We lost them for a moment and went the wrong way.....annoying wasted about 30 minutes. Finally made it to the mailbox and were ecstatic did a gift exchange. We were on a hikers high going down the new trail! Then the last hour and a half everything went down hill. There were tears, laughs, hate, two of us fell, and more tears. We even went into survival mode we were out of water and food. We saw a "bear" I mean deer. Then this made us even more hungry and started to discuss who we would consume first. Again, we will never do this hike again and I will have my white mailbox at my house with random shit for your pleasure. Long story short made it to the parking lot and one friend said he would never hike with me again. The other just took their crap and said they were just going to uber home. Short story long if you want to hike 14 miles see a mailbox, fall, cry, become hysterical, lose your friends, and need surgery on your knee. Do this hike!!!!! Lastly, if there were an option I would chose extra hard on the hike level! I gym every day and do a decent amount of hiking.

Nice trail. The views along the way are mixed with the town of Leavenworth, the Wenatchee river and Icicle creek. Some nice sitting ricks for rest and the inclines were moderate as labeled. I don’t hike a lot but it’s always fun to find a summit, which this hike has.

This trail was amazing 6 hours up and down

Breathtaking! By far the hardest yet most amazing hike I have ever been on. Pack plenty of water and bug spray. The bees and flies were ridiculous. But it was so worth it!!

The road to the old trailhead is still washed out and won’t be repaired, so add the 4mi round trip. The hike can be a challenge, but just go early and take your time if needed. The lake is absolutely amazing.

Amazing! but bring bug spray, you will get swarmed with flies

I really like this hike. What I like is that you are shaded by the trees. There are switch backs but nothing grueling...do Bandera, Mt. Si or mailbox for a challenge but this is cake in comparison. I would consider this hike on the easier side of moderate. I think this lake is just as beautiful as snow lake. This lake actually took my breath away because it is so green. While I love snow lake too I enjoyed this one more due to the shade and not as many rocks. I will agree with the other reviews. BUG spray is a must. I didn’t need it until I got to the lake but I would have been miserable without it.

Beautiful and exhausting hike! Be prepared for lots of bugs. Never ending switchbacks will make you want to turn around. Bring lots of water.

INSANE amount of bugs on the trail! We did this hike on July 29. The weather was hot and humid. We just couldn’t even stand for a minute because of the bugs which included flies, mosquitoes and bees. There are new views except at the end of the trail.

Bring bug spray! There are a lot of open areas, so you'll be under the sun quite a bit. Trail is pretty rocky too. I got to the trailhead at 830am on a Sunday, and the lot was getting close to full.

Not as hard as I was expecting it to be. New trail is well maintained. Start early in the day. Took us about 4 hrs to get to the top. Once you reach the boulders it’s about another 30 mins. KEEP PUSHING! You’re almost there!!! View is beautiful! Lots of bugs at the top. Bring lots of water! I went through 70 ounces of water with still 30-35mins left coming down the trail. Bring more than you think you’ll need. Bring something to leave in the mailbox!

Your relationship will be tested unless you bring bug spray

New trail is great and much easier to navigate the rock face. Pretty buggy up top.

This rt hike is at least 13.5 miles. I don’t get the distance on the trail notes unless hey are indicating from parking lot to peak-one way.

Old Cascade highway is closed with some trees down. You can’t get to the trail head and the detour is very confusing. It might be open later this summer

This was a great work out! The end was tough, but the feeling knowing that me and my friends accomplished this made it worth it.

Very difficult but very rewarding hike to this gorgeous lake up in the mountains, went last year and it was definitely a one to remember! Always get an early start as it has a million switch backs and it gets harder as you go up! If I remember correctly the trail was very maintained and no overgrowth

This is one of my favorite hikes in the area. Closer to 7.5 miles round trip, with a gorgeous lake to enjoy up top. As other reviewers noted, it’s a good workout for the first 3 miles of the hike and then levels out for the last mile or so. The hike is mostly in the trees so you’re not dealing with oppressive sun (like the Snow Lake switchbacks). Bring bug spray and sunscreen, and a snack to enjoy lakeside. Also a great hike for dogs, especially if they enjoy swimming.
