Great trail, the view was spectacular

Awesome trail but definitely not easy! This is my first official hike, I don’t know how but I MADE IT TO THE TOP. A big shoutout to my group who encouraged me to do it!

Definitely hard trail. Steep at the end going up and down is rough with a lot of loose rocks. But the cave is amazing! Our family loved it!

This hike is NOT MODERATE! Starts out flat but as you progress to the cave this incline gets steeper and stepper, rocky and rockier. I can’t call a 45 degree incline moderate. But it’s worth the effort, great cave and view.

This trail definitely borders on hard. The last 1/2 mile will challenge you with large rocks and a steady incline. The reward at the end is incredible. As noted by others, park in the first lot you see once you hit dirt. There is another trailhead past the first lot. You will need to walk through.a gate that should be marked with a wooden sign. We had to secure the sign with some extra wire as it had fallen down. Other hikers told us they missed the sign and spent an extra hour looking for the cave. This trail is dog friendly but is challenging for them as well.

This was a 7.7 mile trail from the trailhead. I would start right and end from the left. I started to the left and it was a very easy start with a hard ending. Tons of rocks on the end of the trail.

trail running

I can’t imagine running it in the summer, but in November this was absolutely incredible. Not well marked, but once you look at the map closely and pay attention to where other trails intersect and divert, it’s pretty straightforward. If I would have had more time I would have done it twice. Pretty rocky in multiple spots so it makes running it difficult, but plenty of runable space. Loved this trail!

Great 7.7 Mile Hike Yesterday! The views were amazing starting Left onto Trail. If you want more of an incline workout I’m told to start Right on to Trail. $7.00 fee/bathrooms at Trailhead. Loved it!!!

Well designed and maintained trail. It is quite moderate in elevation gain but to a nice viewpoint at Apache Vista. For an easy but enjoyable hike try this area.

This is a great hike. The trail is well marked, but it can be easy to lose in some areas if you are not paying attention. I went on 11/1 and there were a bunch of people on the trail around 8:30am. I would say this is a moderate hike. Nothing too intense, but will definitely work up a sweat! This is definitely a trail I would revisit.

Good distance, not much of a challenge elevation/incline wise. The path can get a little confusing at times but is pretty easy to follow if you have your phone.

Another successful hike with the crew. ⛰

Beautiful hike! Went off trail a few times but still made it. No heavy traffic during the week. Gorgeous views!

Probably one of the coolest caves in the area, very nice to relax in after the final pump to the top. Trail can get a little crowded at times so I’d recommend going early.

Great trail, it’s an adventure finding it but worth it. We ran into a rattlesnake while on the trail, no harm done but just keep your eyes and ears peeled, scrambling near the cave can be difficult to downclimb on the way out for sure

We've been hitting up the preserve for a few weeks now, just zigzagging around. This trail is great, with lots of options to go off in different directions. Ended up hiking up 302 and sitting just under Piestawa and enjoying the sunset. After all the rain this month, the mountains are incredibly green. Started at the Dreamy Draw recreation area, and went up the 1A. We were looking for the other end of the Irregular Link, and we not disappointed in the loop at all. Definitely a little more than moderate if you're not in at least okay shape, but not difficult to do with plenty of water and a rest if you need it. Started at 4:15, finished at 6:30; could be done faster, but we take stops to just enjoy the views.

Beautiful and hard hike. The AllTrails rating of ‘moderate’ is incorrect. The trailhead has it rated as ‘extremely difficult’ which is correct. Lots of steep climbs and it is fairly long 6.8 miles. But incredible views and happened upon a rattlesnake and a king snake. Bottomline, leave early, no dogs for sure due to terrain and difficulty, and be in shape!

Hmmm...We tried to do this hike, but, as sometimes happens, we went off where things looked more interesting. I am not sure where or what hike we were, but we started in the parking lot and ended up on 1A until we found a marker that said "Irregular Link", which sounded cool, so we headed that way-and we were really glad we did! It was awesome! We ended up having to turn around after about an hour and a half because we had somewhere to be. The first part of our hike was deciding in that it looked like it was going to be disappointingly boring, but it got better and better, especially when we got into the Irregular link. Loose rocks, good steep inclines, narrow pathways in some spots, great views. I only have it four stars because of the first quarter of the trail and because it was hard to decide which hike we were on. It was pretty.

Trail needs some work. Actually 7.7 miles.

Trail is a bit challenging to find.

Great views.

This is more of moderate/difficult hike.

BEWARE of rattle snakes. Stay on the trail, mosdef.

You feel like you're outside of AZ in some of the cool spots. It feels like there should be water close.

With all the zig zagging that goes on , on this Trail and when you count your steps and measure it out it's more like 11 miles rather than just six.

Awesome hike in the desert! It took around 2 hours to complete the out & back trail.

Fun little quick hike with some scrambling at the end near the cave. We were surprised how big the cave was. Beautiful area!

Great hike until the last few hundred feet, it becomes a little steep. Great views from top and very rewarding

one of my favorite hikes. easy to moderate then the last 500 feet is difficult.

Took the doggos, super easy. Nice views and you can get a shot overlooking all of Phoenix.

Incredible hike! One of the best in this area!!
It is, however, a looong 7 miles. Go up the west side first to the saddle. It tends to be a bit boring until you start up toward the saddle. The ascent is not nearly as steep as people portray it to be. The saddle is, surprisingly, rather flat at the top. Great place for a picnic or break.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to go up the west side first because the back side of the mountain has some of the most beautiful views I have seen in a long time! There are no houses or buildings in the valley there, and you will be “awed” most of the way as you encircle a great portion of the mountain from high up. The only thing you need to be careful of is that there is lots of gravel. Take a stick or pole, and of course plenty of water and a snack.
Save the best for last by going up to the saddle first and come down on the back side.
