Strenuous but amazing hike with great panoramic views, especially at the top. First hour of switchbacks is the toughest part followed by a lovely walk through the Larch Valley. Take your time going up the final section and you’ll be rewarded with jaw dropping views at the top of the pass.

Amazing reward for a hike that doesn’t take very long. Took about 2.5 hours to ascend at a brisk pace. 1.5 hours coming back. The views from the top are incredible.

Insanely hard, well worth it. Amazing views, bring more water than you think you’ll need

A steady incline going up. Overall amazing views.

If you want to climb the very top and see Two Jack lake + Minnewanka lake, be ready that it is a short yet extremely steep climb. If it is a cloudy day, you won't be able to see that emerald water reflecting from the sun making it a less of a view. The top of the hike is challenging due to small rolling rocks. Saw some beginners falling, so have some good shoes:) Other than that, the forest is beautiful, full of mosquitoes, make sure you have a bug spray!

Absolutely stunning valley. I did this hike with my dad in October 2017 and it was beautiful with yellow larches scattering the surrounding mountains. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the mountains but doesn't love heights.

absolutely amazing! despite it being +35 today we were able to enjoy the trail and the sights. Very well marked and heavily trafficked trail so you'll be sure to see a good chunk of people which can be great motivation. I would say that the trail from the parking lot to Lillian lake is moderate and the section from Lillian lake to Galatea lake is hard due to the large amount of loose rock. But it's worth is as the serenity of Galatea lake is amazing. It took us a total of 4 hours (2h each way) plus an hour break at the lake. would definitely do this one again!

It’s was a nice short hike for me. Not my favourite but closer to home. I could have made it longer and more challenging for myself but the reward at the top wasn’t worth the hike up (for me) I enjoy harder trails. Good for beginners looking for more of a challenge then grassi lakes

Incredible hike, well worth the final push! The view of the valley is near unparalleled. Bring lots of water and be prepared for the attack of the black flies. Also, be prepared the smoke and haze will likely obscure some of your view in the late summer due to wildfires.

Pretty steady climbing the entire way. Underwhelmed by Lillian lake personally, the extra climb (it’s hard) to Galatea Lake makes it all worth it.

Absolutely stunning! We had to walk on a snow-covered ridge for about 20 minutes and I didn't have my hiking boots but regular trail shoes. The view above is breathtaking.

Pretty sure this ended up being our hike. We were aiming for White Buddha similar to other reviews we got to this beautiful ridge made our way to what we thought was the loop and got popped out on a gravel road requiring a 22KM drive back to our vehicle. Thankful for friendly, helpful people.

Easy to follow trail. well maintained.

One of the most amazing views I've ever seen. Not only do you get to see bits of Moraine Lake with the gorgeous blue water, but if you can make it to the top you will not regret it. The hike itself is very steep, but it is well worth the struggle in the end.

Easy hike I assume if you are not carrying 40 lbs. of toddler. Best scenery in Kananaskis going up with great lake scenery at top.

Super easy hike. Lots of shade for the puppers on a hot day like today. Too many people for my liking though.

Drive down yesterday and found the trail closed due to grizzly activity :(

A tough hike for me but I did it!

Easy hike... Nice views...

I think we did this trail today? Started at powderface and got to top of mountain where we really weren’t sure where to go, along with a few other groups. There was a map but no one seemed to know where to go. Perhaps we should have just got down the way we came but we ended up going down, which was straight at the very top on the back side. We got lost as there was a fork near the bottom, we ended up on a dirt road for about 2 hours. Luckily there were a lot of cars and ended up getting a ride after a long long walk. We were so far away from our car at the base of powderface. It would’ve been another 2.5 hr or more jaunt down the highway. It was a great hike but I feel like better signage would have really helped. If it wasn’t for the cars passing we would’ve been screwed! We would do this again but maybe go back down the way we came up. If anyone has any input on this please comment!

My family and I backpacked into Taylor Lake at the end of July. Super beautiful location, the lake is stunning!!

I wouldn’t rate this as an “easy hike”, it’s a steady climb all the way up and especially with a 40 lb pack it was moderate.

My crew made it up in about 2 hours, and rewarded with an amazing stay up there for two nights. The picnic tables made food prep and eating a breeze.

We hiked into O’Brien Lake the next day for some more fishing, always fun fishing for Cut Throat Trout.

All and all, this hike was awesome!

first time doing this hike. it was a good short hike...took us 1hour to get to the amphitheatre which was nice. When you start the hike about 15 mins in, once you pass the graffiti houses take a right at the turn off to see lake minnewanka. beautiful views!!

just a side a note...steep hike...so wear proper shoes! and sticks would be nice if it's your first time!

This is what I would call the perfect classic hike. It offers a bit of everything from a few lakes in the beginning to a creek with waterfalls, interesting varying terrain, a bit of minor route finding as you cross the flood plains/marsh land (there is poles with markers but hard to see - cross this area diagonally heading left - and some water shoes or sandals would be helpful some of the creeks are a little wide but very easy to cross) it also offers some challenging spots and plenty of flat beautiful meadows to rest up before the next push with insane views of fairly aggressive peaks at the top, and they’re so close, lastly even a glacier to view at the top. Do this hike. It took us 5.5 hours with lunch and breaks and picture stops. If you use the AllTrails map it will take you about a kilometre past your destination point. You know when you are at the top - stop there, if you continue on past the sign that says your entering Banff Park as the map says to do, it takes you to a little ridge that is nowhere near as spectacular as the views you just passed.. This trail continues on to Leman Lake in Banff if you want to extend. We ended up following the map and added some time and km to our day that was unnecessary. Our day was 18.1 km with 541 elevation gain. I’d rate this trail moderate for a hiker with some practice and of normal fitness and moderate difficult for someone new or less fit but everyone can do it and should. Just take your time. Its very worth it. Join us on Facebook at Hike Alberta to see pics and get info on all Alberta Hikes, and hike.alberta on instagram

Amazing hike with stunning views. We did it in September, it snowed for a little bit but didn’t discourage us, unforgettable experience! Trekking poles recommended.

Really great hike. The views are insane!! One of my best hikes ever!

This was a very cool hike. The first few kms were in the trees with a easy-moderate incline. You then hit an opening in the trees with a view of a mountain with a huge rock slide down the middle. You will continue up to an area with huge boulders where a lot of hikers will sit and have lunch. Don’t quit there, the next kilometer or so get very steep and quite difficult. The view from the top of Lake Minnewaka is beautiful and worth it. Well then we decided to take a little adventure and head off the left side instead of going back down the trail and we hit the scree slope which was much faster getting down but was quite technical. The rest of the descent down was easy and fast. Total hike time for us was approximately 3.5 hours.

Really nice trail. Steep in places but great views. The last part is definitely challenging, but, great views at the top of the pass.

Great hike. The trail to the cirque is a long trek and has some decent incline, but it seemed to go on forever because you’re in the trees the whole time. The cirque is pretty but definitely continue up for the real reward. It is a slog from the cirque to the top but it’s 100% worth it for the view. We stopped at the pond on the way back. It took us 5 hours at a moderate pace with 30 mins at the top and a few more stops for photos. Bring bug spray!
