A fine hike. Good mix of uphill, downhill and some flat. Mostly in eucalyptus forest. The only caution is that the trails are not marked and cell coverage is spotty. So download the map and use the gps when you are unsure - which is a lot.

Great hike but it is really long. Once you are down to the lake it seems like it will never end. I took two kids and we made it!

Great length of hike and definitely I’d rate this as moderate l. Steep dusty uphills are rewarded with nice downhills in intervals. The views along the way are absolutely worth the sweat! Bring a jacket if it’s foggy because on the way back you’ll need it in the areas with all the trees! We’ll do this one again for sure.

Easy trail to hike. A perfect next door get away 10 min from home. Walked at leisurely pace and completed under 3.5 hours. The dogs loved every minute of it!

I love this trail which is quite shaded if you take the left side of the loop starting at Twin Ponds.

It is hard to find so don’t give up! Park on the street and make ur way to the trail GPS spot. You will see the post and know ur in the right spot. Enter to the left of a corner driveway.

The trail is pretty open. I missed a turn or two and took a longer path back to the start. It was good thou. Those trails are more covered and were more fun than an open path. All in all....pretty good.

Great hike! Our dogs loved the private beach to play on.

A terrific little hike! Far more steep than I was expecting (this was hike #2 of the day!), but gorgeous views and enough variety of terrain to make it interesting. I recommend some shoes with very good grip, as portions of this dirt trail can get a little slippery. I was going at a pretty good clip and it took about 90 minutes. If you're looking for something a little longer, I'd recommend combining with the Devil's Slide trail which is right next door. I popped over to that trail briefly and saw whales surfacing!

Agree with all the other reviews that the views of the lake are beautiful. Would recommend reversing the direction to end along the lake which would provide the best for last.

I liked the trail, but the heat was very tiring. There is practically no shade - keep that in mind.

This trail appeared shorter than advertised. The start of the trail is not well marked so it’s difficult to find the trailhead although once underway all other intersecting trails were readily identifiable. The flush toilets at the parking area were a definite plus. I would rate this trail as easy and not moderate.

Steep both on the up and downhill sections of the loop. Some nice views up towards the bay. Very light foot traffic. Some hardy bikers.

They are not kidding about this being a hard trail. I measured almost 9.5 miles. It took me a solid 3.5 hours with no breaks. I ran about a mile of it. Lots of steep stairs and inclines. Helen Markt Trail was a killer. I felt like it wasn’t going to end. This is definitely a tough one even for the seasoned hiker! Lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife: Bring lots of water and snacks.

This is such a gorgeous trail - right along the ocean and very few people! 20 minutes from the city

It's a good beginner trail. Some good views.

This was so dry and hot Sept 1. Barely one good view.

Beautiful vistas!

Excellent dog friendly trail. Lots of Incline, shade, trees. Bring water for dogs!

nice n quiet. good incline. plenty of sunshine, definitely need hat and sunblock.

Doing the loop clockwise is a good up-hill challenge but not overly so. Mostly in the shade during the uphill and not too bad on the downhill section. Some nice views at the top though nothing jaw dropping.

Beautiful place, so quite. We took foldable chairs and sat next to the lake. We went there with our dog as well. We’ll definitely return!

If it were my backyard, I’d take advantage, but not worth trekking to. TONS of poison oak.

Awesome hike with my pup! Most of it is shaded, but there is a good stretch at the top that is not so you might want to avoid going in the hot afternoon. There is a leash free section that was fun for dogs. Given there isn’t many dog friendly trails in the area, this was a good find. It would also be great for trail running. Not too technical.

Nice trail: strep up for the first half mile & then gently and finally steeply down. Fine for our medium size dog. Nice little beach. Great views!

Great hike. Easy to follow, not many people, well kept trail. Very eerie while it’s foggy which is pretty cool - makes you feel like you’re in the clouds.

First time trail running and this trail was perfect!

Hiked the loop today (7/29/18). Parking across the dam at the trailhead was limited. Started at 10:30 am. Went counter clockwise. Very steep up the creek to the falls. Eventually it leveled out to picnic area about 1.5 miles in. The trail around to the east was very nice and well maintained. Not a lot of views and the trail was in shade most of the way. From the where the trail went back down to the lake, the trail back to the original trail at the falls was long. Probably because it was hot and it seemed to keep going and going and going. Once at the turn off at the falls and back to parking, the rest of the hike was all down hill. The guide says it is 7+ miles but my iPhone activity said I went 9.3 miles. I do a lot of hiking and this distance seemed more accurate.
