Nice easy walk/run/bike trail

This is a beautiful hike. It is flat to start out and then it eventually gains. The weather was beautiful and we went at a nice pace. Some in our party saw some bull and cow elk by the pond on the way to Cub Lake. The burned area is a contrast and is interesting in its own right. We could see a lot of new vegetation in the burn area. I like looking across the canyon to the sheer rock faces on the north side.

Did this trail a few days ago. Nice, easy trail. Got out there around 9a. Not too many people out there. Came across elk out in the Meadows. Trail is easy to follow. Four stars because unfortunately it's through an area hit with fire. Lots of dead trees :(

This is a fantastic hike with a ton of water along the way. Beautiful waterfalls and a great lake at the top. My ten-year-old, seven-year-old, and dog are able to do this pretty well, but we live at 6000 feet. This is not the easiest hike with a lot of rocks and some steep climbs, but it is very worth it. We went on a Thursday and arrived at about 8 and parking was easy. By the time we got down about three and a half hours later the parking was a nightmare.

great hike...Billy the Ranger was a treat!

I was here last year and some improvements to the trail have been made. However, it can still be difficult to stay on near the top because it is almost solid rock. I started at 8:30 this morning and had the lake to myself along with a mountain goat. Please be aware that although the lake is only 1.4 miles from the trailhead it is steep. Also, there is a .7 mile walk from the parking lot to the trailhead.

This was my third time doing this hike, it is one of my Colorado favorites! Mellow hike with 143 stairs to get to the tower. Panoramic views, similar to 14er views without the difficulty. Not a lot of aspens for fall colors, but the view at the top makes up for it.
To get to the trail there’s 10 miles of dirt road, manageable in all cars. The tower will be closed for the winter starting this Monday 10/8/18.

It’s a pretty hike with some really cool overlooks. The trail is super well maintained so, aside from the elevation gain, I’d put this as an easier hike. Not a ton of aspens out there but the ones that are were really pretty today! (10/4/18)

Such a beautiful hike! It’s maybe on the more difficult side of moderate, but nothing too crazy. For the best experience, carry on past the waterfall to the lake at 11,900 ft! So serene, and we got to see our first mountain goat!

Wonderful trail. challenging in spots, beautiful and stunning. great moderate trail for hiking and birding

Breathtaking from the beginning!
Yes amazing as good as it gets!
Be sure to walk around the other side of the gold miner’s cabin you will see on the left on the way up the trail....tracks laid at a mine entrance. Takes your mind back to the days...

A new bridge was finished on this trail August 2018 by the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2019 Mechanical and Civil Engineering classes in cooperation with the Colorado Department of Wildlife. The plaque on one side is in honor of this major engineering achievement along the Mculliugh Gulch Trail near Breckenridge CO South on HY 9 almost to the beginning of Hoosier Pass.
The plaque on the other side honors Eric Dube a local physical therapust...outdoor enthusiast originally from near Boston who died suddenly from heart failure in November 2017. Eric was only 30 years old!

A BEAUTIFUL hike. The trees and views are beyond stunning along the entire path and it’s an amazing lake. Pretty populated in the early afternoons but the lake is big enough to have some alone time at the top.

It was a strenuous hike due to its length and the steep incline at the end, but great for anyone looking for that “We made it!!!” feeling. I recommend taking the time to hike around the lake to see the flowers, plants and wildlife.

Great for those wanting a wholesome Colorado nature experience.

We loved this trail!! We are not used to doing trails like this because we are from Oklahoma, but loved the length and it was a great workout!

Great morning hike! Lovely views in some spots and mostly very shaded. Does get a bit rocky and steep at some points but mostly pretty accessible.

Starts with a walk on a forest service road. Don’t despair - there is a real trail. It is beautiful. Don’t stop at the first sight of the falls. The trail keeps going to the top and then a bit further is the small lake that feeds the falls. Terrific views. Worth every bit of effort.

Absolutely stunning due to all the aspen trees. So incredible! Trail is well paved, not too rocky. Certain parts are a bit rocky and the switch backs get steep at the end. All worth it! Enjoy!

Beautiful views but I would definitely say this trail is more than moderate but not quite difficult . It’s easy to go off the trail with the different terrain but if you use the app you should be fine. I made it to the second lake which is definitely worth it. Extremely windy today and semi cold.

One of my favorite trails. An uphill climb with lots of rock formations and overlooks.

awesome views are well worth the climb!

Great hike with the doggo this evening! The trail to the cave was nearly empty, with the exception of a few runners on the front end pursuing the Mesa Trail. The cave at the top was closed for bats, but beautiful views of the Boulder Valley and Flatirons throughout!

Excellent trail overall. Good views. Made it to the second lake above tree line. It is a deeper lake. No fish in it i could see. It was easy to lose the trail in spots due to the amount of paths made by previous people going off the main trail. My wife and I briefly got lost but back tracked. Not a big deal but be aware.

Nice moderate trail, rocky in some spots with a few steep climbs. Higher altitude than I’m used to hiking, so had to pace myself. Great views of pines and aspens that had bright yellow leaves, but nearing end. Small waterfall still flowing and nice backdrop for pictures. We went to the first lake which was crystal clear. Saw some goats high on the ridge at various spots along the hike.

This was on the top of my daughters hike I visited her from Connecticut she lives in Boulder we were staying in Deckers co where my husband did some fantastic fly fishing. So when I looked into Altrails for close places to hike near Deckers and this trail popped up. Being what I consider myself a flat lander and noticed it was rated moderate I said why not for those of you that live below sea level should be aware that when it says moderate it is for us hard. But I was here and I was determined and let me tell you it was the one of the most breath taking views I ever saw and from the top we saw a Forrest fire which believe it or not was close to Deckers what are the odds. I am disappointed I didn’t have a chance to speak to Billy because I was pressed for time.

Great places to see the aspens in the fall! Also a great place to bring visitors to Colorado who are looking for a rewarding hike and view.

Nice trail, mostly easy with a few short moderate sections. If you do the 6 mile loop be aware that the last mile is walking down the road. Saw a bull elk early on and lots of moose prints on the trail as well. The lake is pretty but there are a lot of burned/dead trees in the area, "the pool" was a nice place to stop for a snack. We arrived at the Cub TH around 6:15 am and were the first people there, although within 10 minutes others were showing up and it was full by the time we left. We went to Cub Lake first, then followed the trail down to The Pool and then on to the TH parking lot. About 6 miles total including the last mile on the road. The only reasons I gave it a 4 is bc of the dead trees and the mile of road walking, other than that a nice trail.

Great moderate hike with waterfalls, and three lakes - most people stop at the first one though so if you keep pushing on you'll have two beautiful turquoise lakes to yourself.

Perfect day today. Was able to see yellow leaf aspens still.

Been hiking this trail for 35 years. Always fun and beautiful! Great for kids and dogs.

Nice trail, lake was covered by lily pads. A lot of dead fallen trees surround lake. Saw a mom moose and her baby at a small lake about half way.

Great incline after the river, we saw a moose! BEAUTIFUL
