Great little out and back trail! Not completely flat, but not overly challenging, either. Terrain is very dry, but that's no surprise right now. Creek was flowing a little bit, nice to be able to walk along some water. Lots of available, free parking at the trailhead. Directions from All Trails are perfect. No restrooms or drinking water. Will definitely do this again when all I have time for is a quick, local hike.

Favorite run while visiting Newport Beach. Dirt trail, rolling hills, and partial coverage make this a fun, scenic, and comfortable run for those not afraid to tackle some steep inclines and declines.

I like this trail because of the challenging uphill segments and the cool ocean breeze. I like it even more now that I run into occasional hikers more frequently than I used to, so I don't feel like it is dangerous to go alone.

Awesome views of Downtown LA & the SGV!

We take our young kids here all the time. It’s a fun, easy hike with so many cool birds to identify. Beautiful, peaceful, and nice HB locals. No bikes allowed.

Trail is actually 5.2 using Cougar. Nice tail in the city good to have.

On oct 25, 2018, got out and hiked this trail, based on reading the feedback. I live off PCH, so this is really convenient, as the trail head on poppy ave is @1/2 mile from PCH. The trail is very nice and lots of greenery, is narrow in some parts, but just fine. It reminds me of the Lizard trail in Crystal Cove but not as tough, as there is not many steep hills. There is shade on the trail, and opportunity to take your cap off. The sound of water is soothing.

I hike alone, as I’m retired and get out on trail during the week when it’s not full of bikers. “Ihikealone”. Really enjoyable hike in the city.

Me and my boyfriend run here ever morning and we love it, it’s so peaceful and beautiful! Love love love!!!!

Ran it today around 4 pm. Temp. was about 85 but with no humidity to speak of it was pleasant enough. Also, with the sun being rather low there was shade from time to time. FYI, if you do it clockwise, the first 2.5 miles or so is a steady climb.

We parked on Poppy Ave for free and walked a block to the trailhead followed trail to the end and took bob cat trail back down which joins buck gully. Very nice and about 35% shade. 541 ft elevation took 2 hrs and burned 1000 cal. More of a moderate hike. 5.3mi round trip. Saw a 3ft snake:)

Great hike for those looking to get into shape or simply get their feet wet in the world of hiking. The trail hits you immediately with an uphill climb but one you finish that the rest of the hills on the trail become child's play. There aren't many shade spots so a visor and sun protection is recommended for those with sensitive skin going in the day. Trail opens at 9 and parking gets filled really fast. I usually park uphill a little past the trail entrance and walk down there's no permit required.

We never got to try the trail because of the parking. When we got to the "parking lot," there were "No Stopping Anytime" signs. We then drove around and found that all of the street parking was only available to the residents only with a permit. We came across a resident telling a group of hikers that if they left their car in front of his house, they'd get a ticket. We asked him where we could legally park to use the trail and he pointed to a small area where there were three (3) cars parked and they'd used up ALL the legal parking spots. It seems the only way to use this trail is to walk there from an elementary school parking lot a few blocks away but I'm not sure if that's allowed. Plus, we were trying to avoid walking on the concrete around our own neighborhood: that's why we went there! Needless to say, we felt unwelcomed to use the trail by, not only the lack of parking, but also the resident who informed us that the "parking lot" was closed because of "too many break-ins." I don't think hikers are welcome by the area residents.

lots of pretty scenery. if your brave you came even traverse it with a stroller.

it was a nice ride I road it on a weekend Saturday mid-afternoon, there wasn't a lot of people on the trail so that was nice the trails fairly thin and it's short but it's nice to just check out and get a quick ride in.

I went to run walk jog however trails did not have clear directions! it took me from streets to senior houses. literally i depended on my phone for maps until it ranned out of juice. another way was, I went hike wherever the fck I was with a biker i met. we went together (bike and walk) helping each other out as good team sport, until we found the park were we parked our cars. its not a good trail if you didn't bring your powerbanks and a downloaded map (google and hiketrail). In sum, I enjoyed my hike today which was an 8 to 11milish even though I ran out of battery and got lost in trail which was literally next to houses.

09/24/18 1st time. Definitely enjoyed the day.

I have walk this trial several times , but last times I have noticed less and less water and more house construction. So much destruction around the area. machines extracting water too. Very sad .

I did the portion of the Nature Center and it is beautiful, you can choose 1 or 3 miles . You may observe birds and just walking around the little lakes is nice.

These are all of the good things about this trail

Very easy trail
three bridges to go over
stream going through the canyon
fish in the stream over some bridges
Well maintained trails
Places to rest through the way of the hike

Things we did not like about the hike

The best view of the water is right when you start
The end of the hike leads to an uphill battle to nowhere next to houses

Only go if you are a local.

had to park about 3/4 mile down the street, which wasn't too bad, as most of the other reviews have said. Decent trail, fire road size. When we got to the top, there were a few different ways we could go, so options are good but we didn't have time to explore further. More like an out and back for us this time but we would like to go back and try another trail. our hike was 4.75miles, 800 ft elevation (did the short hill at the top twice) in about 1:30 minutes

This trip was intended to be a simple nature family walk but turned out to be more of a photo shooting session for mommy. I absolutely love the branch tunnel and I'm sure if I'm ever back in CA I will go back.

Great trail to start with, will loop but easy to miss the right turn after the water tower. Biggest downfall is the parking, there is none and city ticket you which is Unfortunate since all we are doing is enjoying our very own city.

In love with this trial! Green, full of plants and all kids if cute animals : )

es super para caminar 4 millas ahoy yeee

We saw three ospreys very beautiful! We went early around 7:00am

Easy, scenic trail. Saw rabbits, countless birds, lizards and a baby rattle snake! Down side, you get hints of car noise from the PCH and not secluded.

Great hike. It's moderate at the start and end points but most of the canyon is fairly flat making for it being easy. You cross a few neat steel or aluminum bridges that go over nice little creeks. I would definitely do this hike again.
