The best hike I've done in a long time. the views were absolutely incredible. The elevation gain isnt bad and the hike is just long enough for a nice full day of hiking.

3 bc this is just for the river walk, but 5 for the narrows. Bottom-Up isn’t an option to review on this app. A previous trip I did the river walk bc my friend wasn’t a big hiker plus the conditions borderline that time of year. The paved HC accessible route just not for me and wasn’t at all a good impression of what Zion has to offer. The longer harder hikes are a game changer for those capable and willing to work a little. Anyways this was one of 7 back to backI hikes I did in a 6 day period between Bryce and Zion. I rented gear and at this time of year there’s not a crowd in the river (and Subway permit odds extremely high if you do a two day gear rental). A few times you have no option but to be waist deep so the full drysuit was reassuring even though many times I was too warm. Walking stick very helpful to test depth and determine direction of walking or at times when the extra sturdiness helpful bc of the current.

Paved path with lots of areas to walk down to the river. We went Dec 12th and it wasn't too crowded. Great way to see the beginning of the narrows and looking up all you see is canyon walls. There was also dirt paths by the river you could walk but you do have to come up to the paved path at some points. We also saw the dipper bird! Very beautiful and peaceful hike, easy and wheelchair assable.

This area has smaller parking than other trail heads. Short and steep but overall it took us around 30min in and out. We went Dec 13th and the trail was wet, not many people.

Such an amazing hike! If youre unsure of where to go there is a friendly staff at the nature center that offers you maps of all the trails available with their level of difficulty. The trails are clean and it is such a great way to spend a day out.

We did the four mile trail however had to turn around because the snow became pretty deep. We hiked 3 miles in until you don’t see the trail anymore. Hike is tough especially through the snow be sure to bring the right gear. We still had amazing views of el captain and half dome. Just keep in mind it’s dangerous hike with all that powder so be careful

Beautiful hike today. Be prepared for the cold from now until late spring. I could've used another layer of clothes and gloves.

I just hiked this on 9th December 2018. Lots of spaces in the lot, I arrived at 6:15 am. Beautiful hike! Definitely harder in knee deep snow past the saddle. Micro spikes and trekking poles were very helpful as some parts were ice. Beautiful view! It took about 4.5 hours up! Check out my insta pics of it! ig: @yvonne_rebecca

not my favorite very busy. not a huge fan of walking on streets.

Great hike. Lots of snow. Make sure you at least have micro spikes as the snow turns into ice. We did not come down the DBB as few hikers warned us about it. We came down thru the ice house the same way we went up.

Awesome hike. If you go with snow on the ground make sure to wear spikes. The switch backs up to the saddle can get slippery.

Fun and easy hike while connecting into hidden canyon. Made a nice day combining scrambling, hiking, scenic views and some off-trail adventures if combine these two hikes.

Most exhilarating hike ever!

Very nice hike, as mapped here taking the chapman trail back it is 9 miles though. I enjoyed the chapman trail, hiking back along the wall of the canyon provides nice views.

This hike is awesome - very easy to follow and very little elevation gain with amazing views. However it was really crowded just before sunset on a cold December day, so I bet it’s crazy on a nice summer day. The views are amazing though!

CLOSED: Went up there today to see what condition it was in. The park ranger told me it would be closed for about another week, as the threat of mudslides is too great with forthcoming weather and downed trees that need to be removed from the trail.

GOOD view! Warning: There is snow very, very early into the trail; trekking poles or a good set of spikes for traction. I did not prepare for the snow and went in tights and a t-shirt. There wasn't a lot of people; I arrived at 7:00 am and the parking lot was still half empty. Took almost 5 hours to complete the entire thing.

Highly recommend for beginners who have a few easy mountains under their belt.

Backpacked one night (Dec. 1-2nd). This was my third time on this trail. I was hoping to reach the top of the first lake, between the first and second, to get a good morning photo. I got a late start and the snow kept me from even making the first lake. I ended up camping at the Cabin and didn't have enough time to continue on. Can't say what the conditions are after the Cabin, but expect deeper snow. It was about knee deep in most places and deeper after the first falls. Its all fresh snow and soft.
Overall amazing trail in summer and winter. Temps were around 1-5F at night with a negative wind chill, but the wind died down. It was about 11F this morning around 8am. Nice easy hike down after plowing.

I was wearing outer shells and snow shoes. I'll post some pics. Happy backpacking.

Started at 6 am, temperature at trailhead was 24* F and with the windchill was 16* F. There was snow pretty much along the whole trail, in some places ankle deep. Recommend micro spikes and hiking poles. Dress in layers and don't skimp on the boots and gloves. We were lucky enough to be able to follow another group who had stamped out a trail in the snow for us, otherwise we would not be able to see it at all. The winds were strong enough to bury the trail in some places. Beautiful if not a very strenuous hike. Beautiful views early in the morning.

Creds: AllTrails Pro. ‘Pro’ worth $30 a year to never worry about getting lost - lots of opportunity . 14.5 mi hike per ‘AllTrails’. I-Phone 8 - 15 mi. My friends Iphone6 - 16 mi. This was an 8 hr hike given the significant altitude gain 4,646’.

Parked and departed 1 Dec 2018 Saturday 8am at Chantry Flats. Have annual Adventure Pass for $29 from REI that provides access to all southern Ca National Parks.

Went counter clockwise. Trails well maintained. Creek and Sturtevant Falls flowing due to rain 2 days ago and trails not muddy. 90% shaded from beautiful canopy of Bay Laurels, Oaks, pine trees. Hot bowl of chili and coffee at Cosmic Cafe (now closed for season) at Mt Wilson half way point . Entire hike on beautiful trails . Beer garden at bottom end of hike at “Adams Packing Station” great way to celebrate accomplishment.

Recent snowfall from Nov 29/30 will make your trek longer if you decide to do the full loop...not sure what the conditions look like as I only hiked a mile in to scope out the trail and will return in the spring! It is gorgeous. If someone does the full loop with the current snow let us know the conditions and time!

What a hike!! Got to the trail at 6:30 on Sat Dec 1st, parking lot less then a 1/4 full... No snow the first 1/4 way up, after that the trail is full of ice and snow, sometimes as much as a couple feet deep as your getting closer to the top... My $30 micro spikes made a huge difference. I saw people turn around, but I also saw people make it just wearing hiking shoes... Summer is gone, it’s winter up there now, and only going to get more snow and colder, be prepared.. Bring your layers, head gear, hiking poles, gloves, a good pair of winter hiking boots, and definitely your spikes.. Check the weather before you go, it can change quickly and turn a great day into a dangerous one.. Plan extra
Time, the snow and ice will slow you down, always bring a light in case it takes you longer and starts
To get dark... It took me 9 hours to complete, I am an older guy but in shape, I’m sure you youngsters can do it faster, just bring your winter gear to be prepared.. Overall what a great day, the snow, the clean air, doesn’t get much better...

I hiked this trail shortly after the first snowfall and it was a killer workout. If you will be hiking through the snow be sure to take appropriate gear.

The views along the trail are gorgeous.

Pretty lakes & mountains with snow caps

Easy but beautiful trail. All I want to see is the second lake!

beautiful hike, way too crowded though. Very easy, and paved. Watch out for the squirrels. They make it impossible to stop for a snack :-)
