Great hike! Trail start is across the parking lot crossing the street. At a steady pace it will take you a good 2 1/2hours stoping once along the way to eat. We started around 12;30pm and arrived around 3:00pm to the waterfall. Great views along the way, with many small falls. One of the best hikes I have done. This will be the best time to do it since it's not so hot and not so cold and the trail is very green with a lot of moss around the trees. A lot of great spots to overnight camp next yo the river!! Do it!!!

I climb it today April 21 I absolutely love the trail 100%

Hiked 4/20/18...sunny day, a few wildflowers out but the full wildflower bloom is probably a few weeks out. Route: up Dog Mountain Trail, down Augspurger and clocked about 10 miles total.

Hiked this one few weeks back but couldn’t reach the top because of snow. Tried it again today but turned back at about 1400’ because the snow got to be too much still. Great trail and if you like to get some elevation and exercise.

Had a great day hiking. It’s a slow incline on a horse trail and old roads. Once you hit the switch backs it gets harder but great views. 8.5 mile for the loop was long but good. Many other alternatives if you have time for 12 miles. Great views of Mt Hood and Mt Adams.

When reaching the trailhead you have the option of hard or harder, I took the hard path. Awesome hike in spring, lots of flowers blooming and at least when I went the winds were really tame. It’s a quad burner for sure with the incline and maybe not the best if you have any knee issues. Views are awesome, great view of the Oregon side of the gorge. Great for people with energetic dogs that feed off off exercise. All in all a great hike that left me a little sore a couple days after. Be aware that due to last year’s fires, many gorge trails are still closed making hike options limited, might want to get up early.

Did this April second and the flowers are just starting to pop up in some places but nothing crazy yet. Will be returning to repeat this hike in about a month to see all the flowers.

Took the dog mountain shuttle from Skamania Fairgrounds parking lot on Rock Creek Drive. I got the first shuttle out at 730 am. Ride to the trailhead was about 15 min. When u pay your $2 for the shuttle your wristband serves as a hiking permit. When we got there there were several park rangers strictly enforcing the new permit rules. Many were turned away.
I took the “more difficult” segment of dog mountain trail up and Augsberger trail down. Took me 3.5 hrs. I had solitude most of the time with the exception of the top.
Great views of Hood and St. Helens. There were some small yellow flowers up at the top and the lower trees were just starting to bloom. Will have to come back when the wildflowers are in full swing. Beautiful moss laden Forest for most of the hike.

Made it almost to the top but the snow was too deep and the trail was lost. Great hike only a couple of people on the trail. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because not many views but it could be different at the top. But a great work out

Incredible! But, busy.

Loved it!! Went today by myself and beat the crowd... not much people during the week, especially early morning!! Took me 1.5 hours to go up there, pretty decent pace. Not too difficult if you're in shape!! I would say moderate for me... Also no more snow! Definitely will be back when it's spring

Great hike! Don't bring your dog unless they're in good shape, ours barely made it down! Apparently we net to get her on a treadmill lol. Fantastic views at the top, definitely a challenge with a ton of steep inclines, the lookout point halfway up was a lifesaver

Beautiful hike! I would definitely do it again, but in the summer. My car could only make it within 2 miles of the trailhead, so we walked up the road to get there. We had to stamp through the snow the entire time, which made for an adventure! However, I definitely recommend snowshoes if you hike in the winter months. The views from the top were stunning and made the trudging worth it in the end.

Amazing views. I enjoy the 'difficult' trail more than 'more difficult'. There is still snow at the top so wear good shoes and be prepared. Love this one!

Forever a favorite hike of mine. I love the intensity and the peacefulness at the summit. I seem to always do this hike when I need a reminder to be grateful for the little things. Gorgeous weather today and so many friendly faces!

Awesome trail for snowshoeing and hiking! The 360 view of mountains and Mount Hood on a clear day is incredible!

This was overall a very beautiful hike, with a few small precautions that hikers should be made aware of. First, the restroom at the trailhead is poorly maintained. Second, do NOT leave valuables in your vehicle, as there was broken glass scattered throughout the parking lot. Third, many hikers not leashing their dogs. Otherwise, the river was crystal clear and mesmerizing, and the terrain made for a fantastic workout! Bring lots of snacks!

One of my favorite hikes! Done it many times and it's good in any season! Amazing views of Mt St Helen's, Mt Rainier, Mt Adam's, Mt Hood and Mt Bachelor from the top!!

2/17/2018 - Pup Creek definitely makes you work for its beauty. This was an easy to access trail right off of 224. No snow on the roads or trail. The trail was worn down from the winter but looks like it’s usually well maintained otherwise. Lots of downed trees and even some sections of the trail that looked like it had recently washed out or had the potential to do so. The water of the clackamas river is a gorgeous turquoise/green and the forest you hike through is vibrant. Only downside is the road is also right there, but since I was hiking alone it was comforting. Elevation is fairly gradual but I definitely felt it on my trip back to the car.

Waterfall (pup creek falls) is a 5/5 - amazing.
Bald eagle sighting at parking site.

Hike came in at 9 miles for me (4.5 each way including off trail treks to see each smaller fall along the way)

For feb the weather was nice, no snow, trail not as exciting for the first 3 miles. Understandably a lot of downed trees with the sloping ridge/off season but also a lot of the trail was suffering. Clackamas river very pretty but hiking trail & river follow alongside a road with decent amount of cars across the way for the entirety. Nice hike with great payoff but dreaded having to go back on the same trail all 4m back.

This was my first snowshoeing trip ever, and my first time on this trail. The hardest part for me was the added mile from parking to trail head especially on our way back. The trail itself is moderately challenging lots of climbing with a couple areas that are flat. The summit was steep and a little scary on the way down as there was ice and just a very light layer of snow. Unfortunately it was cloudy and windy at the top and we didn’t experience the beautiful views we were hoping for. Next time I’ll do this one on a clear day. Hiked 1/20/2018

Beautiful forest and falls! Semi busy on a Saturday afternoon but not too bad. A few logs and muddy spots to navigate, but all in all a fun afternoon.

incredible hike. you need a jeep, lifted 4x4/AWD SUV, or offroad capable truck for the final 2 miles of road

Incredible experience. bring a jeep, lifted suv, or large truck. it's no joke

The climb up will test your will power. The way down will test your joints! The view was great at the top. Was definitely one of the harder hikes I’ve done
