Great hike

Muddy but awesome! We've done it before. Great for kids and dogs.

Easy hike under two hours total no real steeps. 20 yards of snow no ice. Micros not needed. Fantastic clear day high peaks visible w tons of snow to the north. Vt and Catskills also visible to east and south. Did not expect views to be so good! Bonus was the windows still intact in the tower which helped avoid the strong winds in the tower.

It's not the most exciting hike in the Adirondacks but it's pretty. Living nearby, this a great way to get out and stretch my legs for an hour or two.

You do need to climb up the fire tower a ways though to get a view.

The trail was covered in two inches of fresh, light snow. We were the first to break the powder and had to put on spikes.

It’s seemed like a long three miles in, but the hike was easy. The trail meanders through rolling ups-and-downs until you reach the falls. Very few inclines get your heart pounding.

The falls are beautiful. If you go in the winter be careful of ice. Falling over the side seems almost easy if you’re not wearing spikes.

Beautiful quick hike

Would rate it easy to moderate. Partially covered in snow and winter runoff, hiked this for the first time yesterday. A bit muddy and slippery on the downhill with leaves and snow. No ice. Wore yak trax which were mostly useless- poles would have been helpful on the way down. Beautiful sunny day- sometimes the trail was hard to follow but it was a lovely short hike.

Easy to follow trail. Need crampons and poles if you don't want o slip.

This trail is relatively short and easy compared to most other ADK towers. It was worth the hike. Check out my full write up along with pictures and things to look out for.

Beautiful easy winter hike, first half next to the brook is incredible.

Great hike! Did it in the middle of February and it was quite icy so be careful! Other than that it was beautiful until it started raining halfway through!!

This is a nice quick local hike that’s nice and easygoing. This was a great winter hike that I enjoyed. There were a lot of animal tracks that we saw while hiking.

such a unique place, it's small but magical.

Great Day in the woods. Saw a few other hikers. However I Left my snowshoes in my vehicle and I should have taken them. Would have made the trip much easier. I did use poles and Yak Traks(ya ya I know they are crap but they do the trick on a budget and not in a High Peak!) which were great and got the job done. This is easy but should be more low moderate with the added winter conditions.

Note: Don’t go unprepared as that is not safe even on this trail and if you’re venturing unprepared at the very least sign in at the trailhead.

Happy Hiking!

When I lived in Albany this was a go to trail for anyone visiting me from out of town. Enjoyed this trail dozens of times, particularly enjoyed the winter when the waterfall would freeze.

great climb along the brook with many cascades. BUT the trail from the pond to the summit is not "easy" moderate at best. certainly worth the effort.

A nice hike to start firetower challenge, not hard but a continue climb to top, view from tower only
Trail was just reopened from hunting season and has lots on leaves covering trail need to pay attention to markers

Visited in fall 2015. Was a perfect hike for my Mom who needs something a little easier and loves to learn about history. Hopefully they can find a way to reopen it.

Awesome trail for my nine year old and me.

Nice trail for a family walk. Trail has views of lake for the majority of the hike. Nice Pine forrest and waterfall. Some muddy spots but easy 3 mile walk.

Nice hike. Steep only for the last 1/4 mile or so which does require a little scrambling. Multiple stream crossings, ponds and a great view at the open rock summit.

We did this trail late fall, so we were not bothered by bugs, but in the lowest area we really tried hard to avoid the mud. The trail has a very special feel because it is very straight and has trees that join at the top so it looks like a tunnel. We enjoyed it!

Trail is still closed as of October 2017

Pretty cool hike.

love the 13th lake area, brought our Akita with us and he loves being able to get a fresh drink the majority of the hike, you can get a great view of the high peaks from a distance but, it needs to be a clear day, was a little windy on top but, that's to be expected would highly recommend this hike, good little burn, and great payoff, recommend basil and wicks great burgers and the beer isn't bad either
