Beautiful hike and views. Did an amazing sunrise hike and the whole way up to the peak we got beautiful views of the sun coming over the mountains with the lake in front. Little steep at times but definitely a consistent incline. Top has a well worth it view.

very rocky uphill but not too difficult. took about 35 mins up and 20 down. the view is worth it

If you want an interesting hike and only have a couple of hours this is worth your time

It’s a very beautiful hike with lots of lake views. We stopped by at Granite Lake for lunch and since it was end of fall, it wasn’t very crowded. The trail is well maintained. The views at various vistas are spectacular. I’d rate it between moderate and difficult.

We are visiting CA from CO and we landed on this trail. It was an easy trot and worth the views. There were about 20 others on the trail to go along with 3-4 black bears. DO NOT use the directions link for this trail. We spent about an hour on the wrong trail haha. Follow the directions from some of the previous comments. Enjoy!!

great trail second time this week

Took my sister and I one hour 25 minutes round trip. Agree with previous review to take right fork of loop both for view and trail.

easy hike

Not too difficult. Took 2 hours even though we stopped for some photos. The toilets in the parking area are extremely dodgy... Bring your own toilet paper!

Great trail during late October.

10-15-18 Parking lot is closed, but it is only 1/4 mile to the trailhead. Cascade Falls is to the left and this trail (to the right) appeared to be labeled Desolation Wilderness. The notice posted at the trailhead stated that from 8-29-18 until 12-31-20 the Desolation Wilderness is closed unless you have a permit (see photo). THERE ARE NO PERMITS IN THE BOX. Cascade Falls was awesome!

I have mixed feelings about this hike.
The trailhead is somewhat easy to access (located at the very back of bay view campground). Limited parking especially on busy weekends.
You get incredible views of Emerald Bay from several view points on your way up.
There are lots of switchbacks on your way up. LOTS of elevation gain!
Granite Lake is lovely and a very nice place to take a breather.
There are two peaks:
The northern peak has better views of emerald bay. I did not see a clear trail to this peak.
The southern peak is about 200ft higher in elevation, has better views of desolation wilderness. The trail to this peak is very clear.
Dog friendly!

A little steep at some points, but views at the end make it worth it

Great first hike of this.
1hr 20 minutes round trip. 40 up. (44 yr old dad w/ 10 yr old boy) both of us were huffing and puffing on the reasonably steep uphill.
Fantastic views at the top overlooking Rumney and east towards Plymouth.

What a great Sequoia “foothill” trail. It is rated as moderate but there are some hard spots. Since it had rained earlier in the week, there were no bees or wasps and very little dust. This is the perfect time to hike this trail, the falls may not be at their fullest, but leaves are starting to turn and some fall flowers were blooming.
The trail head is at the very end of the Potwisha campground. If that parking is full, you can park across the road. We recommend good shoes and polls or a hiking stick.
Cannot wait to do this trail in the Spring when the falls are full!

A hidden gem of a trail!

Excellent hike with great views of the Quabbin and surrounding areas.

Great hike with the kids.

I accomplished this trail today. Beautiful weather and few people there. Haven't hiked in awhile and it was a little rough coming down (wrong shoes). Deffinitely going to do this trail in the spring next time! No bees thst I noticed.

Great 360 vistas on top

Great view from the top!

This is an amazing hike! Anyone with some hiking experience can do it w/o a problem! It drizzled all the time but we still enjoy it very much! On a clear day the views must be breathtaking as they were on a rainy day! I totally recommend it!

the trail follows a stream a majority of the way. and by follows I mean the trail is a legitimate stream. very wet, tons of large rocks & very vertical in areas. slippy & muddy. would be great when in dry season

Spectacular views on this well groomed trail!

Really nice and easy trail. It took us not more than 30 min to get to the top and the view is spectacular. The parking is a bit hard to find since the sign is small and wooden attached to a tree.
There was some traffic on the trail but not too much- I went on a week day and it was after Labour Day, so maybe that made the difference.
Looking forward to going back there soon.

great vista views up and down

Tough hike, but the views along the way are breathtaking.

Such a beautiful and amazing hike. Great incline.

Really enjoyed this trail. Nice changes in scenery from beginning to end - was a little sad to see the burn areas from last years fire. Fairly shaded until you hit the burn spots. Great views.

Awesome trail! Well worth the effort! My wife and I hiked it with our 3 daughters, 4, 8, and 10. Took just a hair over 2 hours to get to the peak. Absolutely breathtaking views. And the girls loved it. Best hike ever.
