We started this hike under a light drizzle. Not a problem as there is plenty of tree cover. It starts out straight uphill over roots, rocks and stairs. Gradual incline up to the fire trail and then straight up. Cannot comment on the view at all as Mother Nature opened the flood gates at the precise moment that we reached the peak. Our view consisted of a big fluffy cloud that blocked out everything. Nothing but fast moving water back to the fire trail. In the end the rain did not bother us and we met some great people on the trail. This one, although not the trail for a novice, will go in the record books for me.

hiked this trail last new years and it even snowed. loved the views from up there, a must hike

on Endless Wall

Beautiful hike. I highly recommend going down the metal ladders to the rock climbing access area. You can hike along the bottom of the endless wall and meet/watch climbers. Lots of great views from the cliffs when you climb back to the top. This is a fun/adventurous trail for all skill levels.

Hiked blue loop counter-clockwise in 2 hours. Pleasant overlook toward beginning of hike. Then steep descent. Cascading water falls toward middle of hike. Then gradual ascent. Trail clearly blazed and well-maintained with numerous benches for breaks. Small parking area at start. Have to hike in a bit before reaching map.

i enjoyed the view!

This is a great hike. My partner and I have done it twice. Once in the winter and once in the late summer. My goal is to do this during the fall to see the leaves! The dog loves this place! Through hikers are always so pleasent... WATCH OUT FOR THE SNAKES!

worth every step

beautiful hike. glad we dove the extra 2 hours to get there. one of the best views on the AT.

Challenging in spots with an amazing view for a payoff. Can get a bit crowded at the top.

Absolutely beautiful views

Hiked this one today. Actually, that was my second attempt to climb the rocks all the way to the top. First time around it was drizzling all day long, boulders were slippery, and I did not finish it. Today was sunny - different story. Good traction, because it was dry, and spectacular views all the way up (if you are climbing the boulders). Very very challenging climb, and I have done some tough trails. Rocks are getting bigger towards the top, and harder to climb. I had enough brains in the end to take side trail down instead of jumping boulders back...lol. Highly recommend if you want entire body workout. Do not recommend if you have knees problem.

Awesome trail with ladder access to climb down and explore other trails! Sights are incredible! Check it out!

Did this with my daughter on my back. She weighs 34 lbs so it was a little more difficult. the trail is rocky at times. very steady incline untill you cross the fire road towards the end. this is where the trail begins to be more of an incline. i believe this is where most of the challenge is. the air gets thinner a little bit. the scenery at this point is amazing. once you get to the top there are multiple ledges to grab a great view from. on the way back if you take the fire road it is much simpler and easy. very wide path and still some great scenery. not to crowded if you hit it in the early am.

Wonderful walk in the woods with a great view and waterfall. I walked it counter clockwise, the end was steep but did not take long. Took about 2.5 hours. The only difference I would make is to go clockwise so I could have seen the sun set at the overlook. Very peaceful trail

I love this trail. It’s my favorite in the area. It’s well maintained. The views of the Gorge are wonderful. We’ve had a lot of rain so it’s pretty sloppy right now though.

Amazing views and an easy trail. Well worth it. If you’re feeling adventurous there are ladders bolted into the rock face you climb down. Highly recommend.

Nice trail, well maintained, and nice views at the top. It was a bit crowded with multi-day hikers, experienced Day hikers, and tourists who don’t hike regularly. I was a little disappointed with the “iconic” aspect of this view — for me it didn’t quite live up to the hype.

Good trail, great views!

Such beautiful views! It was a pretty easy hike with really cool ladder climbs. Totally worth your time, you won't be disappointed.

Great trail but it is not located in Babcock State Park as listed. It is in the New River Gorge National River Park NOT Babcock State Park near Clifftop WV. Please make this correction in the Trail description as it creates confusion and hikers are traveling 20+ miles out of the way to the wrong location to access this trail. It is located near Fayetteville WV where you can view the New River Gorge Bridge not at Babcock State Park. Really great trail but it is listed in the wrong location.

I have hiked the trail numerous times, there is more to Mcafee's knob than the ledge. Hell's kitchen is fun to wonder around, and if you follow through hell's kitchen to the power line, there is a pointed rock that is fun to climb at the power line clearing. I spent more time away from the overhang and enjoy what's around the whole area.

Do yourself a favor and check this trail out. The overlooks of the New River Gorge are fabulous. It’s not a difficult hike at all. There are a couple places with ladders bolted into the cliff face (optional) that are gnarly and a ton of fun!

This trail is amazing! The view is gorgeous and it is an easy hike - perfect for an afternoon hike.

Excellent hike! I was initially intimidated but pleasantly surprised with the level of ease I was able to do this. Straight up, straight down. The weather was lovely (low 80s) and all of the other hikers were very friendly. The overlook is completely worth the hike.

Fun hike with a little bit of everything. You get wildlife, waterfalls, and some scenic views. The uphill climbs can be a little challenging but over all it's worth the hike.

A classic in this area year round. During colder months, you can see the old mining towns across the gorge. And of course it’s lovely during the summer. Easy if you’re in shape.

TIP: This isn’t a true “loop.” The lower and upper parking lots are probably about a quarter of a mile apart with no where to walk but the road. I try to park at the lower lot so that I can walk downhill at the end.

Heavily traveled, iconic photo spot. Parking can be difficult. If you want an easier option, hike up the trail and down the fire road. I have done this on sunset hikes.

Amazing hike! Easy climb and amazing views! We could spot some of the rafters down on the gorge.

I’ve walked this trail a lot, and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s an easy hike to a gorgeous view, and it’s never super crowded along the trail.

Seriously. The view is incredible.

Also, they’ve been renovating the trail for the last year or so, so it’s even easier.

Just a fun, quick hike.
