Very beautiful and scenic trail in Malibu. Parking is really hard to find in the designated trail parking area. However, you can find “precarious parking” just 2-3 minutes from the trail entrance. If you want to park “precariously”, don’t enter the road that leads to the initial parking. Continue going up on the road you entered from the Pacific Coast Highway. Other than parking, this is a beautiful and relaxing hike. Not intense at all. The Rising Sun trail does have a pretty steep incline, but definitely doable.

Had a great time, took my dog who was absolutely pooped afterwards, will definitely be back

Take the alternative loop back instead of simply turning around at the waterfall. It’s a challenge but you WON’T regret it! The views are incredible. Be on the lookout as this is a natural reserve and rattlesnakes (as well as others) reside here.

this hike was stunning The Greenery was unbelievable and the waterfall was the Coupe de gras an easy hike it's a must for beginners we will definitely come back again

Easy trail! A little bit harder, but manageable, if you go all the way up and around to the falls. Make sure to hike along the right side of the first waterfall you come to and keep going. The second waterfall is the 50ft one about an 1/8 of a mile further.

I shot a bunch of video on this trail and compiled it into a vlog, called trail mix. This is episode 3!

Happy hiking!

Went here with my 9month old and husband. I carried our baby in a kangaroo pack. We had never been here before and thought we’d give it a try. There are trail maps for those looking for a bit more adventure. I went on a Wednesday at about 3pm and there was a moderate amount of people. Along our trail to paradise falls there was plenty of beautiful scenery to look out at. We ended up walking down to the waterfall and made our way back the same way we went in.

It was a great day. The trail was gorgeous. The falls were fun. Loved it all

One of my favorite hikes I’ve ever been on! Of course I love graffiti and abandoned places full of mystery so... with a nice mix of beautiful nature that’s not too overcrowded when you go off the main paths! Can’t wait to come back

This hike starts on a steep dirt fire road. Heading east up the canyon. Once out of the canyon the hike levels out. Good views can be had of LA. The trail is very popular, we saw many people out on the trail. The Hollywood Sign was the highlight of the hike.

I’d say it was pretty good. Easy uphill almost like the concrete of Runyon but in dirt so you can actually take regular sneakers. No need for hiking boots. It was a total 4 miles up and done so it’s not so bad. When you are close to reaching the Hollywood sign taking the holkyridge trail do rent horses so expect poop smell lol. Parking was very easy to find at 4:30pm and it was not busy at all like the weekend.

Easy hike, great trails

Beautiful hike

Worth the climb! Amazing views from every angle! Great workout!

The boys (husky mixes) and I finally made this hike today. Gorgeous views & rock formations; I took so many photos of the boys standing on the rocks and looking off into the distance.
I average 3-5 miles daily with some elevation on run days and I really felt like this was a challenging hike; we took about 3 hours including breaks for water & photos and a long walk back to the first parking lot. Next time, I’ll park much closer to the trailhead. I couldn’t believe the number of people we encountered running this trail! I also was amazed at the number of kids doing this hike!
I brought 4 liters of water and we went through most of it- though I’m pretty sure I leaked as my pack & back were soaked when we reached the top. Thankfully, I had 2 separate bladders and the second was full for our trip down. Had just enough at the end to fill the boys’ bowls one last time and the stinkers didn’t even want it!
We started at 7:45 and managed to have much shade up until probably the last mile or so on the way down. We did not see any snakes, but the boys found a few lizards.
There were enough people that I felt safe as a solo female but, surprisingly, not near as many people I expected having read about this hike online. We did not stop for a chip photo, as we were solo. Like others, we saw some drones up at the top and heard an occasional speaker.
We didn’t come across any aggressive or unleashed dogs.
We found people we encountered to be polite, if not downright friendly. The boys got a few pets & ear scratches from new friends. We tried really hard to give way in narrow spots and others did the same.
We’ll definitely be back.

Great hike the only down side is that parking is very limited especially on weekends, get there by 6!

Beautiful and relaxing. It’s definitely an easy hike. Great for kids and dog friendly. Saw a couple of quails running on the trail for a while. So close to Malibu Seafood for after hike lunch.

Great hike , get there early parking is limited. We parked 1/4 mile down hill. Mostly shaded hike, not much to the waterfall. The last part of hike coming back is all uphill so be prepared. Will definitely be back.

This is a simple and enjoyable hike within Monrovia City Limits. The price to park is $6 cash on weekends and $5 cash on weekdays. We live a few miles away so sometimes we walk from our home but other times we like to support the city and simply park and pay. We’ve ran the trail from the lot to the falls in 12 minutes, jogged in 15 and walked at a slower pace at 20 minutes. The trees and environment are very similar to Oak Creek in AZ and the trail is not too crowded if you get there around 7 am or around 4 in the afternoon.

I was wrong! Just a short walk to the store and the Goats! Then on to the falls. Happy

I’m walking up and down the road. The park at 9 was Completely full. They said get here by 6 on weekend. still great!
I’ll make Thursday my hiking day

Amazing trail and great workout!

awesome hike great views totally worth it.

Excellent workout!...
Afraid of snakes but worth the hike. I will come back with friends, perfect place to meditate and relax.
This is where I realize that I must workout harder to be in shape " GOOD HEALTH ".
Enjoy life!......

The views are incredible. The Paintbrush Trail was closed at some parts. I just went for it, but it became clear the reason was the cliff it walks below is super unstable with tons of erosion, so I would recommend taking an alternate route I’m definitely never going on the closed trail again.

Easy and lovely

I love this trial. it never disappoints,it has amazing views and is a great hike. You should take the time for this hike.

Great hike. My son enjoyed the climbing part. Good workout and a rewarding view.

Great location and fun hike.

Easy trail. My 10 and 5 year old kids and my dog loved the water and all the opportunities to get wet! Nicely shaded.
