Little tricky to find the starting point. I parked right near the corner of Rosso St and Montagna. There is a paved trail that takes off northwest between 2214 and 2218. That’s it. Fun hike. The scenery is great. I bet it was much better a year ago before the fire came through though. Decided to make a loop out of it instead of coming back up over the pass. A little more color on the Mill Creek side but the road is wider, more trafficked, sand may be a little less scenic. Had to get a little creative at the end of the hike following barely a trail behind the houses to get back to my starting point.
Beautiful soft fluffy clouds, OH! What a wonderful day to hike and lift your head towards the Heavens. Just marvelous!
Confirmed trailhead is open. Great hike you start and see the results of the fire travel through the creek bed with wonderful views. Lots of places where there are multiple ways of going. You won’t get lost lost, but you likely won’t stick to the exact trail. Lots of fun. Not sure of the end, all trails just seems to stop in a random place.
BEAUTIFUL. Do the whole loop! You won’t regret it
AllTrails map directions took us to the middle of a neighborhood where there was a lot of development going on. Couldn’t find that trailhead but noticed another one down the street that was another trail that connected to mustang pass. The hike had interesting terrain as others have stated. We were trying to beat sun down so did this trail as fast as we could. Made it a loop with the power line trail.
Drove to the Cottonwood Trailhead today and the road was open. It appeared all of the trails out of the trailhead were also open.
I started at the base of snow canyon, and went clockwise. Couldn’t find the trailhead at first because someone parked right in front of it, and if you’re like me, I’ll save you some time: look to the left corner of the parking lot. The hike just repeatedly got better each mile, the first four miles. The last two miles were on trail, gravel, then paved, but the views were still spectacular.
January 9,2021 road / area still closed
Much harder than I thought for someone who doesn’t hike often. It was amazingly beautiful though. Go when you aren’t in any kind of a rush and follow the trail clockwise. Also avoid windy days. The most annoying part is the end when you have to walk on gravel then a paved pathway forever... get someone to pick you up by the sand dunes! Totally worth it though it was BEAUTIFUL
Awesome views. Very rewarding route. Did this as a trail run - the runnable parts at least. Took less than 2 hours.
Rare snow yesterday made for nice compact traction through the sandy areas. Great way to start off the new year with a double loop. Lots of cheerful people out. Beautiful day today!!
We hiked counter clockwise following the loop as mapped. Clocked it at 6.66 miles. First mile plus is paved road then about a mile on gravel. Then veer left onto sand and the trail gets really great! Beautiful canyon views, arches, rock formations, etc. Get to do some rock scrambling and peak at a beautiful view of the valley. We came down behind Tuachan and wrap around to the parking lot. Fantastic hike! Note $5 fee if you go in this way.
A unique desert rock hike like walking on the moon at times. Only one on the trail. The sun was out keeping us fairly warm, but the winds were chilly and intense at times, so happy we dressed in layers. Made a trail loop on the return. Tried to record it on this app (only recorded on Strava). -Walk, -hike, -run in sand and mid loop ascending climb and descending hike trail.
What a treat to see so many cheerful people out on Christmas Day. Exchanging Christmas greetings, taking in the precious gift of life and all the beauty of the world. Wonderful....just wonderful.
Pretty gentle. Good views. Mill Creek has some interesting sandstone cliffs and channels.
Good walk. Mill Creek has some interesting sandstone cliffs.
Dry and no vegetation since the fire. Nice walk with interesting terrain
We started by the amphitheater, and once you get past that, the hike is gorgeous! There are a lot of caves and cliffs to climb up on along the way. Really beautiful.
