Gorgeous hike on a gorgeous day. Spikes were essential up to the Loch, and poles were helpful after the trail splits to Hiyaha. Wind was brisk at the Loch but calm enough to break for a snack. We’d made good time and decided to try for Sky Pond. Definitely a good decision, but snowshoes would have been helpful. Wind was pretty calm at Sky Pond, and the views were fantastic. Definitely recommend doing the full hike in the winter if you haven’t!

An easy, pretty trail. I particularly enjoyed the wildflowers around the lake.

Hiked this on a very icy December day... without micro spikes! Probably not the best idea haha. Very dreamy ! Continue to lake hayaiaya

Perfect time to go before the parking lots fill and the crowds roll in. The falls are still partly frozen but it is even more beautiful.

Beautiful place and very relax.

Did it yesterday, MicroSpikes are a must, however some people did it without them.

We hiked this loop on April 14. There was a bit of ice on the way up, maybe the first .2 Miles. The rest of the way up was clear until we got to the top and then there was snow/ice. We managed just fine with our hiking boots. Make sure you take the short trail from the loop out to see the lake with a magnificent view and mountains in the background.

Just did this today, took 2 hours to get up at a steady pace not rushing with a couple small breaks maybe 5 min each. Micro spikes are fine as well a must. I saw people with out them and didn’t look fun for them. Took 90 mins to come down as well a steady slower pace. Great views!

(8 p.m. - 11 p.m.) Snowing at Bear Lake parking lot and all the way through Emerald Lake. Nymph and Dream both had water on top of the ice and had to walk along their shores. Used crampons from the parking up to Dream Lake and then switched to snowshoes.

I did this hike at the end of February. I initially set out to go up to Emerald Lake as well but the snow was too deep after Dream Lake. Stopped at Nymph Lake on the way up. It was frigid cold, wind was howling (especially crossing the lake) but the views were beautiful. The only difficult part of this hike was crossing snow. Definitely want to come back now that it can be hiked without snowshoes. $20 to get in.

Hiked 4/11 with spikes. Beautiful hike. If you are going all the way to Dream Lake, you might as well do Emerald Lake, too!

hiked this morning 4/10, microspikes were sufficient up until the Mills/Loch junction but from there up to the lake snow shoes were definitely necessary (snow was well over knee-deep) super windy but beautiful as always!

My husband and I completed this hike on April 7, 2018.

The trail is easy.... just a flat two miles around the reservoir. We enjoyed the educational plaques and the telescopes. During our hike we saw mule deer and a variety of birds. The gray, cloudy day, combined with the charred burned areas surrounding the path made this a less-than-ideal time of year for hiking this trail. Still, there was beauty to be found in the long yellow grasses, the occasional patch of orange reeds, and the stillness of the water.

long flat 9 mile walk around Barr Lake. cool scenery. horses, cows, birds, deer, and fish.

This hike is beautiful! We wore spikes on our shoes which made it easy for us to hike. If its snowy while you go I highly recommend at least spikes. The right shoes make a difference! We didn't have hiking sticks when, but they would have been helpful. Once you get to dream lake it's exactly what it's called... a dream! Gorgeous!!! We are from Louisiana and didn't think to wear sunscreen because it was overcast. Wrong. Wear sunscreen! We got sunburnt pretty bad! You can learn from our mistakes haha.

I hiked this on Easter. It was snowy but packed enough for spikes and not snow shoes. Several times there was no one in sight, so I wonder how many people make it to the top. The wind was whipping! Had to stop at loch Lake but a beautiful and somewhat challenging hike!

We hiked this today and it was absolutely beautiful! We found it challenging since the snowpack was icy as well. Highly recommend using microspikes and trekking poles.

(8 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.) Iced over trail head at Bear Lake parking lot to start, icy but manageable terrain heading up the trail to Nymph Lake and put on the snowshoes for better traction. Snow is a lot deeper at Dream Lake than a few months ago. If you're looking for difficulty, the trail itself isn't difficult but the elevation and elements is what you need to prepare for; come prepared with full ski suit, mask, googles and snowshoes.

Hiked this trail with a 9 and 12 year old in tennis shoes today. The beginning of the trail (.2 mi) was slushy but easily doable. The mile up was clear and pretty easy. The remainder of the trail to the lake was snow packed but we did fine, stayed dry and warm with tennis shoes and light jackets.

The trail is 90% snow packed, very doable with just hiking boots but strongly recommend wearing spikes if you have them. I didn't realize the last part of the trail follows the river bed into the Loch instead of the regular way through the switchbacks. Its kind of steep so that's where having the spikes comes in the most handy. The Loch is gorgeous but I it was extremely windy so I didn't stick around too long

Beautiful hike. We took the family out today. We hiked in boots and it was very do-able. There are some slick spots as the snow was coming down fairly heavily on the way back. Lots of traffic for a snowy Thursday. Beautiful scenery. Highly recommend.

Hiked 3/24 without any traction. Spikes would have been really useful, as the trail was very slippery in some places. Breathtaking views at Dream Lake.

all alone except for the planes overhead. easy flat loop with offshoot trails. pretty mountains rise up from the plains in the distance.

Did this yesterday 3/16/18. The last part of the hike was challenging not wearing snow shoes given the incline and the fresh snow from the day before, but well worth the view of the lake at the end. Snow was pretty packed for the most part thought the trail, but there were some really lose spots that will make it difficult. Definitely easily doable with snow shoes, but absolutely possible with out.

this was a lovely hike! I just wore my hiking boots and tried to be careful in areas where it looked icy!

Great easy hike to start the morning before going to do a more strenuous hike. A lot of snow when I was there but that didn’t hurt the view once you get to the far side of the lake.
