Hiked 4/21. Broke fresh trail as it had snowed about 5 inches overnight. Definitely needed snowshoes for the top 1/3. This trail is far more beautiful covered in snow than in the summer time, so get it while you can!

A little difficult for an easy trail but well worth it.

Beautiful hike today on 4/19. Packed snow and ice almost completely covering entire trail up to the end of the trail. Definitely helped to use my yak tracks. I didn’t slip at all or have any difficulty while using them (besides the altitude and the entirely uphill trail-lol). Not too much of an elevation gain but the altitude definitely makes it more challenging. I was truly surprised by how many other people were on the trail and the fact that 95% of those people were very ill prepared for hiking. I’m here were people in shorts and almost everyone else was wearing either tennis shoes or casual shoes. No wonder I saw so many people falling. Please be prepared for the ice/snow and weather

Fun, easy, great views. Pretty simple hike but worth it.

Went today, it was a wonderful hike. In the icy spots just stay on the snow along the edges.

While the tall peaks were still snowed in it was almost snow free here. Went on a Wednesday so saw no bikes and no other hikers either. Though we were non acclimated Easterners the elevation posed no difficulties. Not one of the more spectacular hikes but it is pretty and a short drive to Boulder. Looks like it gets slammed in the summer.

Did this hike today - so beautiful! We really enjoyed all of the openings and spots to sit and soak up the views. There are actually benches scattered throughout this trail! Hike was part wooded, part exposed. Very little snow on the trail, but some mud. Spikes not needed.

Nice to go in April when it’s much less crowded.

An absolute blast to do trail running on with all of the rolling hills. Well maintained trail with variety of views including looking over the 285 drive. Good chance to see wildlife too.

Awesome Mountain View!

Beautiful hike this morning, we had the top all to ourselves. Looking forward to coming back and experiencing it in warm weather.

This trail is built for and meant for mostly bikers. According to the sign no bikes are allowed on Wed and Sat. If you are hiking I would recommend going on one of those days. If not you WILL encounter a lot of bikes and because of how smooth this trail is, they are moving pretty fast. The views here are not great but it is a nice hike through the woods. Not too strenuous with only about 900 feet of elevation gain through the whole hike. There are better options in the area especially if you want to avoid the bikes. If you are on a bike, this trail is awesome.

Hiked 3/25 in hiking boots without spikes and the trail was manageable. Right as you’re ascending toward the lake at the very end of the hike, the snow gets about knee deep so you should try and stick to the packed sections. Overall, the hike is worth it with amazing views , just prepare to sink in snow in a few spots.

Hiked today Saturday 3/24. Mostly covered in snow, though did not use snowshoes. Used microspikes the first half going up but would have been OK without those as well. Top third was very dip and you'll sink down every once in a while but it's more or lass packed down at this point.

Great hike with great views. You can always find more breathtaking views in the Rockies, but you can't beat this one only an hour from Denver.

Drive to the trailhead was easy. Ice on a few areas of the trail. Used spikes; no problem! Beautiful hike this morning!

Bring microspikes in winter months.

Went up when it was frozen over with some friends. It's tough getting up and back down with all the snow, but so worth it. Some people hike up and sled / snowboard down. You get to walk around on a big frozen lake once you make it all the way. Really awesome.

We completed this trail today. Snowshoes were not needed for the first two thirds of this trail, but were very helpful for the top third. That’s how my wife did it, I didn’t take my snowshoes and still did fine. A lot more snow than last weeks pics.

I loved this hike! One of my new favorites that isn’t far from town. We went early before everyone arrived and it was so peaceful and beautiful. Highly recommend this loop!

This is a short loop with little elevation change. Great for taking dogs or kids, or those new to hiking. There is plenty of parking and decent restrooms. Watch out for ice during the winter season. There are several drainage areas that stay icy for long periods of time. If this hike is moderate, it is barely so.

Fun day hike! Only downside would be the amount of dog poop everywhere.

I hit the trail at about 9:30 am. Made it on the packed area...straight up to the lake...without traction assistance, but definitely needed my snowshoes to bound around up by the lake. I saw three people on the way up (all within the first half mile) and about ten—on their way up—in the last mile of the descent. :) Windy but great!

Hiked up without snowshoes, just spikes, deep in spots, but was able to make it all the way up to the lake. Trail was pretty packed down.

It was snowed out, only snowshoers and skiers were on it.

Very easy, beautiful hike. If you’re looking for something non strenuous and short this is a good one. Fun to sled down the hill in the winter too!

Hiked 3/2/18. As previously reported the road to trailhead is snow covered. I made it fine with AWD and you could make it with 2wd BUT if someone else is coming the other direction then you might get stuck trying to move over for them. Fantastic hike overall. Trail was snow covered but spikes were not needed

We hiked this on Sunday afternoon and it was windy, cold, and awesome. Be advised that there is . $5 fee to park in the nearby lots as they are on private land. Cash and checks are the only form of payment accepted. There are two lots, on one to the north and one to the south of the trail head. It's a quick walk to the top, just keep to the main trail and avoid what look to be off road vehicle trails that veer off to the right. I think there are two on the way up. The top was WINDY. I'm guessing around 50mph gusts and a steady wind of about 30mph. The kind of wind you can lean into and it will keep you upright. The temp was around 9 degrees and with the those kind of winds we didn't stay up too long- we didn't have the gear necessary to hang out in conditions like that. But it was beautiful up there. We shall definitely return for more exploration!

Hiked up to this trail this past Monday before the big snow hit and it was beautiful. The trail begins as a wide road and there was considerable accumulation of snow, although it was packed down pretty nicely and made for pleasant travel. The road continues past a few barriers to prevent motor traffic and then thins out. The snow makes the official trail difficult to find towards the top, but there is no danger of getting lost as the remainder is mostly above tree line, making the route to the lake obvious. I would recommend snowshoes for the final bit. It seems that the lake could just the start of some great exploration, but the snow at the top here fairly deep.

It’s great if you’re looking for a relatively easy trail with great views. The trail was a little packed down for snowshoes, but slick enough that you’d be better off with a bit of extra traction. Just be prepared for a lot of wind at the lake.
