Great hike if you’re local. View was alright

Still plenty of ice near the top. Great views!

My girlfriend and I chose this beast as our third hike in Virginia and it was spectacular! We decided to go clockwise and climb up the most strenuous ridge trail first. It was unlike any hike I've ever done and definitely pushes you on the rock scramble and boulder section, but it was manageable and fun for me (6'2", 260lbs) and her (5'2", 110lbs)...so I'd say as long as you have a strong desire to reach the summit and the ability to "get skinny" on some parts, this hike is a good one for beginner hikers that want to push their skills and endurance!

Strenuous but views are well worth it. Challenging without spikes/poles but is doable without them. Perfect day hiking spot!

I know it seems Wierd, but it IS Austin, Travis County, Texas...but you MUST have a reservation.

Went this morning before 9am. Not too many people compared to coming down after 10am. Wow, what a difference. Very pretty waterfall and very manageable hike.

Beautiful falls and an easy hike for all ages. Wildlife is abundant and there is always something interesting to look out. The trail is a little broken up for the last .25 miles, so just be careful with where you step.

I've hiked this a few times and it is easily a favorite of mine. I had the pleasure of actually getting the summit all to myself one evening I hiked it solo after work. I would not say it's to difficult even with the rock scrambles because as long as you pace yourself both going up and down and are careful of your footing it's a enjoyable hike.
I've done it top to bottom in 3 hours solo but it can also be more of a leisurely hike with a group around 4--4.5 hours total.

Absolutely love this trail. The trail itself is pretty steep on the way up, but there are views all around, so take your time and enjoy the scenery. Every time I drive through the Smokies I make sure to stop at this trail, especially if it's clear and sunny. Last time we were able to spot a black bear alongside the road as we drove to the trail head. There are also plenty of wildflowers growing along the trail as well.

One of my all-time favorite trails! The gain is around 1000 feet / mile which makes for some great leg burn along the way. The payoff is well worth the scrambling and effort, and the descent through Dunnfield Creek features super crisp air and pleasant waterfalls. The descent reminds me of Stokes State Forest (to the northeast of Tammany), where you'll see massive hemlocks, cedars, and general old growth forest!

Awesome views of Pennsylvania from the NJ side of the water gap. The trail can be rough in some places. Check out my full write up which includes directions and things to look out for.

The steep drop-offs made me nervous, but it was a beautiful hike and the waterfall was an amazing destination.

A beautiful short "walk in the woods" Most of the way out to the falls is a gentle uphill and it is only a little more than a mile out. This path is all paved and the hike is good for all ages. Not a lot of parking so you should probably plan on being there early

Great hike! There were a few steep parts which really made me work but overall very doable and even more rewarding!

Nice paved trail. Takes some effort getting up but it’s totally worth it. It is a little colder at the top but so so beautiful. My husband proposed to me up there and it was a wonderful memory I’ll never forget!!

amazing views!

Awesome! We loved it! It’s cold up there and VERY windy so be prepared. Totally worth it though. With the paved path easy for the kids too!

Castle itself is worth the trip. Some good views on the overlook near the pond. Pond view is very scenic as well. The actual trail is somewhat meandering.

This was my first hike and a solo one at that. It was awesome!!! The rock scramble did not disappoint this first timer. I’m short (4’11”) and was able to this. Some review said it might be difficult and they were but other hikers were there to help if needed. I did this counter clockwise. Went up the fire road first then hit the scramble. That helped I’m sure as I was able to slide down a lot of the boulders. So if you’re in decent shape and want an exciting solo hike.....THIS WAS GREAT.

Nice quick short hike but not a super great view.

This hike has beautiful views at the top with an amazing breeze to cool down after the uphill. The rock scrambles are very fun and can be easy for some or very difficult depending on your physical shape and comfortability with bouldering/climbing. At a certain point the distance of the hike can definitely be mentally taxing and a motivational killer if fatigued lol. Specially if doing the hike the opposite direction with the weakley hollow fire trail first. Very fun and enjoyable workout. Good luck everyone!

We went on this hike with a toddler and a 4 month old. It was beautiful but pretty strenuous with an extra 30 lbs strapped to your back. I would say it is big kid friendly but not toddler friendly. He was very tired on the assent and walked very little on his own. The summit was spacious and he was able to run around while we all ate lunch. Beautiful views but little tree cover this time of year and a lot of downed trees. Parking is atrocious here. If you come after 830 be prepared to be creative on where you put your car. My little lump was asleep the entire time.

Had an absolutely wonderful time hiking this trail today. Every time we came upon another group hiking they were very polite and friendly. The views are absolutely worth the sweat. Can’t wait to come back an enjoy the views again.

Damn good hike

Not really a trail. A steep short paved path up to the observation tower. A decent amount of people around and some AT-thru hikers starting in early April. A nice little shop and bathrooms by the large parking lot.

beautiful view. step hike, but worth it

Not a lot of effort for a big reward of a hike. Great waterfall and flume views. Good amount of hard packed snow on the trail. Cramp ons definitely helped but saw other hikers wearing sneakers. Didn’t pass too many people but I’m sure it’s crawling with people in the warmer months.

I wouldn’t call this a hiking trail by any means, I honestly wouldn’t have walked up if it weren’t for my significant other telling me how amazing it was. Granted the view from the top was amazing and there are real trails that lead up to the same place you can hike if you want the true experience, but honestly the crowds and actual trail makes me want to rate this as 1 star the view makes me want to rate this as 5.
