Hiked on April 14th, 2018. I'd recommend spikes, but you can get away without them. Definitely don't need snowshoes. Trail is pretty well marked, but make sure to keep an eye out for cairns above treeline.

A very strenuous hike for most of the way but beautiful scenery along the way. The reservoir was dried when we went but it was still worth the views. Lots of scrambling on the rocks and some really slick areas so be careful.

This hike reminds me of bald hikes in NC/TN/VA. You're not climbing the highest mountain, but certainly are getting the best views.

Nice, mostly-shaded hike from the parking lot up and around Spruce Mountain. Good views of the southern Rampart Range from the top. Pikes Peak and Almagre Mountain are partially visible from spots on the trail, as is a distant Mount Evans. Trail is easy enough that it doesn't really feel like 600' of vertical gain.

An excellent hike and or an overnight x2

Beautiful view. Hiked up to the reservoir, and we had it to ourselves. Some snow and ice on the trail, but not to bad

This was my first trail I went on and it is also in my home town. the trail was crazy but it was worth it when we got to the first lake it was amazing.

Very pretty hike but be prepared to hike in snow knee high at times.

I've written a blog post about this hike @ www.break-trail.com

Incredible! Love the dispersed camping near the trailhead. Wonderful views at every turn!

This is probably one of my all time favorite hikes! I suggest getting there early in the morning to avoid crowds and to make sure you give yourself enough time. This is so scenic, everywhere you look is picture perfect! Wear layers, goes from hot to cold quickly. Bring snacks and plenty of water

The views are amazing. Also the Barr Camp stop is great right before the hiking gets really tough. I will say, I would recommend letting the snow and ice melt a little more. Could not have done this Trail without micro spikes. It made the last 3 miles particularly rough. I’ll definitely do this Trail again, probably just between June and September. Also, be smarter than me, and don’t assume you can buy a ticket and ride the cog rail down. It’s closed indefinitely.

Beautiful but busy! I left about 7 and made it back by 2. It's a bit of a burner but honestly the water is breathtaking and well worth the work. There were Llamas just chillin by Ice Lake which was random and amazing. I did continue up to Island lake which was awesome as well. People were fishing there and I sat for a good 10 minutes admiring the view. on the way there were quite a few people headed up. A few early morningers met me on the way up.

This is close to our house and is rugged enough to be a good workout, but not brutal. Lots of very interesting rock formations. Can be very muddy in spots after snow or rain.

Love this whole area!

HIKED ON APRIL 1, 2018

START: 6:30AM
END: 2:30PM

This was my first 14er. Would not recommend as first 14er for most people unless you hike a lot in difficult conditions. The 13 miles RT and 4300ft elevation gain is not easy without proper training and hiking experience.

YOU DO NOT NEED 4WD TO GET TO TRAILHEAD!! ROAD IS PERFECTLY CLEAR FOR ALL TYPES OF CARS

Hike to summit took 4 hours. 2 hours up to tree line, 2 hours above tree line. Lots of elevation gain on first half of hike. Make sure to look for and follow Cairns, some are hard to see but trail is marked the whole way. Some scrambling the final bit up to summit but not difficult.

Spent maybe an hour at summit. Ate lunch and took some pictures before heading down.

Hike back to trailhead took about 3 hours.

Other than strong wind and some icy spots in the trees this was a pretty chill hike. Not too difficult for an intermediate hiker.

2 hour drive from Denver to Trailhead

One of my favorite trails to frequent. Versatile, fun, and a bit challenging and a great place to just hang out and have lunch!

Good hike but well traveled at times.

The view at the end was beautiful. Not my favorite type of hike as about a mile was on dirt roads, and the path was very narrow and rocky in other places. Glad I did it though as the view of Pikes Peak was gorgeous and very peaceful.

Purely amazing

$7 for a day pass but there are miles and miles of trails ! We did a 6.5 mile loop (many trails connect and loop to each other). Pretty creek in the canyon . Trails along the creek at the canyon bottom and rim trail along the edge of the canyon . Old dam you can hike to as well! Many nice lookouts . Enjoyable hike . Playground for kids near parking area. Some restroom. Dog friendly and rock climbing areas too.

Great trail, very steep!

Need 4wheel drive to get to trailhead. Rough terrain on the road. Trail is easy to follow until you get above the tree line. With it being slightly snow covered we lost it up the first ascent which led to a slow climb to the basin. High winds in the basin section until you get to Devil’s playground. Didn’t need traction devices on way up but used yaktrax on the way down to avoid slipping on some ice patches. Long hike but great views of the continental divide & the crags!

Nice trail that leads to a beautiful lake. It’s steep in some places but a beautiful hike.

This time of year, the prairie dogs weren't out at all. Last time we literally saw hundreds. Easy hike and great views of Pikes Peak from mostly the west side north to south. At several points, you can see from Pikes Peak on the south to beyond Longs Peak to the north. Views to the east are mostly looking down at farmland toward Franktown. Visibility was great the whole time. Plan to take g-kids out there soon.
