Completed this hike in the clockwise direction starting at Golden Canyon parking lot at 6:00 am. The entrance to the canyon is very dramatic and at that time of the morning I felt like I had the whole place to myself. As I walked up the canyon the Red Cathedral loomed in front of me and I took the side trail in to visit it. This does require some scrambling through tight squeezes. However, I think the rock formation is better viewed from a distance where you can take in the whole facade, which looks like the side of some Gothic cathedral. The climb up to Manley beacon is very dramatic as the trail hugs the side of the hill beneath a massive stone face. The return leg along Gower Gulch I found somewhat disappointing since the trail is initially more open and the underfoot is mainly loose gravel. Only towards the very end does the canyon narrow into a very tight passage with some very dramatic rock formations. When the trail exits the gulch it runs parallel to Badwater Road with fine views of the mountains to the west across the valley floor. When I did this early in the morning the temperatures were very pleasant but I imagine this could be a scorcher later in the day/year. Carry plenty of water, and don't get lost by straying off the trail.

Great!

Beautiful! Especially the 1st half on the golden canyon side of things (gulch much less interesting and agree with posters who suggested doing this second). Some elevation but it’s all very gradual.

We did Zabriskie Point to Red Cathedral and back. Watched sunrise at the point. Next time, I’d just start hiking.

HikingGreat!

Great hike. Beautiful views. Red cathedral was great. I definitely recommend going for sunrise and seeing the bright pink colors as the sun rises over the mountains from Zabriskie Point. Great way to kick off the hike. I also enjoyed the return hike through gower gulch.

Beautiful hike, as is pretty much the entire park. My favorite region of DV.

Great!

Started at Zabriskie Point and went towards the red cathedrals, and returned by Gower Gulch. Gorgeous views. The gulch was a looonngg hike back, but the beginning of the gulch was so awesome.

Golden canyon is beautiful. Can get windy. Bring water, snacks, and sun protection. Bathroom at mid point of hike.

I started at Zabriskie Point and went counterclockwise, the trail head is to the right of the parking lot. This trail is probably more fun going counterclockwise because you start out with the Red Cathedral. The way back is a long walk up the gulch, I would not recommend doing it in any amount of heat because there is no shade for ~3 miles. I also didn’t see any markers for a different way to finish the hike, so I ended up finishing the last .7 mile the same way I hiked in. Really good hike and very unique! You will not get this experience anywhere else.

We did the Gower Gulch to Golden Canyon loop with the spur trail to Red Cathedral. Hiked counterclockwise and started at 8am. Golden Canyon and Red Cathedral were beautiful, Gower Gulch wasn’t as impressive so glad we started with that. Lots of photo stops and took us 3.5 hours total. Easy to moderate difficulty, probably harder in the heat since there is no shade. Best trail we did in Death Valley, highly recommend.

This was an awesome trail. We started at the Golden Canyon parking lot and went clockwise to Red Cathedral, Manly Beacon, Zabriskie Point, and then back down the Gower Gulch trail. Our favorite view was from Manly Beacon. The part of the trail to Zabriskie Point looks like a loop on the map, but it was actually an out and back. My recording said our total was 8.1 miles

I’ve done Bryce and Zion, and this was my favorite hike of all three. So beautiful, so many different views. If I go to Vegas again soon, I would drive out here again just to hike it. Loved it so much!! Our only problem is we didn’t bring enough water. It wasn’t hot out so I misjudged the need for water in the dry atmosphere.

Like the previous hiker mentioned, the best thing to do is to combine all the four hikes into one (Golden Canyon to Red Cathedral to Manly Beacon to Zabriskie Point to Gower Gulch Path. The total is 6.5 miles and will cover the main points of the area. It is a fun hike. At this time of the year (end of February) it was chilly when we started at 08:00 AM, but as the day progressed, it got warm in unprotected areas. Definitely a moderate rating.

Started at Zabriskie Point to Gower Gulch (people finishing told me Gower Gulch was less interesting so I saved Golden for the uphill part - this feedback proved to be accurate - Golden >> Gower). If you take Gower down, note that at the bottom the trail follows a ledge to the right . . . you don't have to climb down the 20 foot dry waterfall). While Zabriskie Point is quite photogenic, I really enjoyed seeing the views and geology up close. Distance and elevation aren't hard, but heed the warnings about conditions - Did this in late February and it was so dry and hot that I felt it at the end. Found out it was 82 degrees when I finished (and humidity was probably approaching zero). Never used so much lip balm on a 6 mile hike! Trail is relatively crowded by the two trailheads, but sparsely populated about 1/2 mile away. Would recommend starting at Golden Canyon TH so you can do the uphill first.

Started with gower gulches and went into the golden canyon! Made a detour to Red Cathedral- HIGHLY recommended! Make sure you go allll the way to the end of the Red Cathedral for the absolute best view on the trail! There’s zero shade so be prepared! All in all- an easy to moderate hike at some points. Do it!
