Amazing Views along the coast

Been on this hike a few times, it's relatively easy but there are a couple of places that will get your heart rate up and are fairly steep.

Nice views and beautiful meadows. This area burned in the Ceder Fire but is growing back nicely. The old cabin burned down in the fire but there is a plaque as a tribute.

Great hike for kids, highly recommend.

Everything was great .!! Is a really good place to go w your friends and family .! Is really beautiful.!

Surprisingly scenic! Plus we got to hike alongside a river for awhile which was pretty awesome. Solid elevation changes, I wore my toddler in a carrier on the uphill and we admired tons of wildflowers. Really enjoyable little hike.

A very relaxing hike. The 5 mile distance will give you a nice exercise.

Trail is super easy and it is under construction. The pass is closed however if you look hard enough you will find a hidden trail, scale down the edge of the mountain and it leads to a rope, climb down that rope and you have a beautiful beach that is secluded and private and all to yourself. That was the best part!

Great and easy trail when your on the go and want to escape the city life. Park on any side street. There’s a little coffee shop at the start made out of a trailer camper. Enjoy!!

Located directly across the street from the el cap trailhead this is a hidden gem! Perfect hike for kiddos! Beautiful lake views!

My 1st favorite place to hike. Every time we go flora and fauna is different and beautiful. Birding is great too.

Nice trail for skill levels. Pretty green and pleasant. Trail could be marked better.

Great place to work out. I’ve only run into 1 person. And the view is so pretty. I can workout t my comfort level and push myself without any concern. Plenty of shade and signs to stay on trails! I enjoy this place very much!!!

The water at the end of the trail was all dried up which as big bummer. Also- while the trail is easy down along the river, I would say it is more moderate to difficult, especially with young children, because it’s straight down and straight back up out of the valley.

The trail is nice enough but there is dog crap all over the trails and I would guess off trail too. I was there first week June 2018 and was lucky to see a mature and healthy looking bobcat!!

We were very disappointed that there wasn’t any water in the canyon. The hike, albeit short, was very steep for about half a mile and our older Labrador had a tough time getting back up. Only ran into a couple other people all afternoon. If there were water, this hike would be great!

Cool spot to for a quick ride. Other trails nearby that are pretty cool for mountain bikes

Nice surprise find

Very easy trail, plenty of afar so the vegetation is happy and green. There are always lots of other people and bikers, but the trail is so wide it’s easy to share.

Super easy trail to either walk or bike. Pathways are plenty wide for most of the trail, but be courteous of walkers if you're biking. Likewise, don't hog the trail if you're in a group. Parking is usually plentiful, and there are a lot of place to have a meal afterwards nearby.

Since the ranger station was built on corner of Mercy Rd. and Black Mountain Rd. the trail head is located just east of the ranger station on Mercy Rd. This is a great ride but be careful there are spots with loose dirt where your tires can wash out on corners.

I’d definitely come back, but after some rain. There was almost no water at the end but the rocks were cool. It was a pretty hike and you really feel away from it all. There was no one else on the trail that day which was cool-so quiet, just me and some birds and a snake

Great trail for my husband and I and our 1 year old dog. Loved the view of the lake! Most of the trail was easy but there was a couple inclines that affected my breathing. This was our first hike in a long time and really enjoyed it. We are in our mid 60s and would recommend to others.

It’s a very pretty trail around the lake. It’s completely flat the entire route. It can be very busy on the weekends, so the earlier you start, the better

Very basic

Amazing ! It’s a must

This trail was okay. Not "must do again," but nice enough. I did this trail alone with my dog on a Friday afternoon and there was NOT A SINGLE OTHER SOUL AROUND. Normally I'm happy to find less trafficked trails, but this was creepy since I was by myself!

The trail has a paved path and also a regular trail path. Gets too crowded after 9 on weekends.

Shady very clean park easy hike

Great for hiking or intermediate MTB. I was on my MTB and must have left the designated trail because the boulders and inclines had me pushing my ride Haha. this place has trails everywhere and I will definitely come back better prepared to spend the day exploring.

I went out here to test the trail for running, as Afoot and Afield had listed it as a nice trail run. This is a really pretty, easy hike that has a lot of shady areas, a rare occurrence in San Diego. However, it is NOT suitable for running! Lots of river rocks and unstable surfaces make it unsafe for running. I'll stick to walking next time!

great for beginners.
