SnowshoeingGreat!Private property

Snowshoes are definitely a must getting to the falls! Trail is packed down nicely all the way on Lake road. Ranger greeted us as we signed in and kindly asked if we would snowshoe in. Of coarse out of respect for the trail, we did. The falls were beautiful! We got to the parking lot at 6:30am, plenty of spots available. Once we left at noon, the lot was full. Great hike!

the hills are super wet and slippery after the snow! make sure you have good boots/spikes for the next couple days.

If you're looking for seclusion, this trail is not it. I would definitely use hiking poles. Enjoyable few hours with some steep hills for a bit of a challenge.

Great beginners winter hike. Needed snow shoes with crampons and micro spikes in some areas. We took trail up lake road then left to Gil brook trail to Indian head then down to rainbow falls and out lake road. However, would recommend finishing with west river trail.

Loved the view on Indian Head. Very nice hike in and out. 1/15/21 The weather was great and used crampons up to top of Indian Head. Road was well packed due to snow mobile use by workers. I recommend this hike.

HikingGreat!Icy

Hiked 1/10/21 - great day! Carried snowshoes, but did not need them (although some recommend wearing them on Lake Road since people cross country ski there). Microspikes were helpful on the ascent and descent to/from Indian Head. West River and Gillbrook trails well traveled and packed so only bare boots were needed. Definitely make the stop at Beaver Meadow Falls and Rainbow Falls!
