Hiked this with my wife, 10yo daughter, 9yo daughter, and 7yo son. Great trail and very popular. There were more people on the trail than I expected for a Friday morning. This trail was a return to hiking for me, and I managed fine. My wife is new to hiking, and this trail was a little taxing for her. My kids had a blast, but were ready to get back to the truck by the time we logged a 4.2 mile round trip. It was pretty humid and a great lesson about packing enough water and having a cooler waiting in the truck for the finish. Also, I was happy that I outfitted everyone with proper hiking boots or shoes. The trail was rockier than I imagined. Of course I saw some hiking in tennis shoes, but I’m super glad I wasn’t one of them. All in all, great family outing and we all slept well that night!!!

Easy hike. Down and back in about 2.5 hours. Worth it at the top

We started this hike under a light drizzle. Not a problem as there is plenty of tree cover. It starts out straight uphill over roots, rocks and stairs. Gradual incline up to the fire trail and then straight up. Cannot comment on the view at all as Mother Nature opened the flood gates at the precise moment that we reached the peak. Our view consisted of a big fluffy cloud that blocked out everything. Nothing but fast moving water back to the fire trail. In the end the rain did not bother us and we met some great people on the trail. This one, although not the trail for a novice, will go in the record books for me.

hiked this trail last new years and it even snowed. loved the views from up there, a must hike

difficult but worth the view!

This is a great hike. My partner and I have done it twice. Once in the winter and once in the late summer. My goal is to do this during the fall to see the leaves! The dog loves this place! Through hikers are always so pleasent... WATCH OUT FOR THE SNAKES!

Beautiful scenery, challenging hike, wonderful views.

worth every step

beautiful hike. glad we dove the extra 2 hours to get there. one of the best views on the AT.

Challenging in spots with an amazing view for a payoff. Can get a bit crowded at the top.

I’ve been hiking this for almost 30 years. It is one of my favorite hikes and different every time. The view at the top makes it all worth while.

Well worth the switchbacks and climbs to get to the summit - spectacular views. Last bit at the summit is not dog friendly, so we took turns going out on the ridge. Horse trail was a little less rocky than AT or hiking trail. We just missed a mama bear and cubs, but saw another pair about 10 minutes before the parking lot. Keep your eyes open.

Did this with my daughter on my back. She weighs 34 lbs so it was a little more difficult. the trail is rocky at times. very steady incline untill you cross the fire road towards the end. this is where the trail begins to be more of an incline. i believe this is where most of the challenge is. the air gets thinner a little bit. the scenery at this point is amazing. once you get to the top there are multiple ledges to grab a great view from. on the way back if you take the fire road it is much simpler and easy. very wide path and still some great scenery. not to crowded if you hit it in the early am.

It was great but I really don’t believe it is good for dogs. Rocky just about the whole way. Definitely hard on the paws

Great, dog friendly hike. Two spectacular views!

Nicely marked trail for the most part. If with dog you can’t go on one of the trails but there is another next to it you can take dogs. Can’t take them to the summit, though. Although, I saw I guy walking with a pet bird! Saw a couple bears on the way down, they are out there.

Beautiful hike, lots of rain the last couple of weeks so the falls were roaring. Moderate is an accurate assessment. Hiked it with my wife and our two granddaughters. Girls complained a little but not to much which rates this as a good family hike. will differently hike it again when in the area.

Nice trail, well maintained, and nice views at the top. It was a bit crowded with multi-day hikers, experienced Day hikers, and tourists who don’t hike regularly. I was a little disappointed with the “iconic” aspect of this view — for me it didn’t quite live up to the hype.

Fun, short hike. Started early on a weekday morning and ended up having the entire top to myself. Clear day, great views, and light breeze.

Hiked this with a friend after a week of heavy rain and the falls were incredible! The trail was waterlogged and a little difficult to navigate at points, but overall still a beautiful hike. Crabtree is one of my favorite hikes in central VA.

What a hike! I had avoided doing Stony Man because it was such a short hike and wasn’t sure it was worth the drive. But this hike has a lot of bang for its buck! The Passamaquoddy Trail is right along a ridge, offers nice views through the trees, and a natural spring. The views from the various Stony Man overlooks are absolutely wonderful! The AT section of the trail is one of my favorites in SNP. This is a great loop, and you can certainly turn it into a day with a nice picnic on one of the overlooks.

This is a good introductory trail to SNP. It’s pretty short but heavy on the elevation change, with really nice views at the end. You’ll never find yourself alone at the top on a nice day, but there are some small, quiet outcroppings below the peak that are nice for lunch. However, I do love seeing people getting out and enjoying our national parks!

steep trail, beautiful at the top

great views of the waterfall. well maintained trails.

I have hiked the trail numerous times, there is more to Mcafee's knob than the ledge. Hell's kitchen is fun to wonder around, and if you follow through hell's kitchen to the power line, there is a pointed rock that is fun to climb at the power line clearing. I spent more time away from the overhang and enjoy what's around the whole area.

Started at the Little Stony Man parking area to the Stony Man Lookout and continued the loop via the Passamaquoddy Trail to get back to the parking lot.

Overall, nice little trail. Very rocky and uneven up to the lookout. Nice payoff view at Stony Man Lookout (there are better ones in Shenandoah NP like Old Rag) and a few other ones both before and after Stony Man. Lots of wildlife...from black bears to hundreds of millipedes. Nice scenery and not too challenging to see some nice views.

Some of the best views in VA! Short and relatively easy trail with endless viewpoints and overlooks.

Beautiful views all the way up the trail! View from the top was nice and had a small area if you want to sit and enjoy the view! Pretty steep incline but worth it! Work out with a view! Loved it
