The road leading to the trailhead was closed off, added an extra mile both ways. Great hike! The falls were beautiful.

An easy short hike. Went on Christmas and was not disappointed by the the giant frozen waterfall.

Love this hike. Good for kids. All year round availability. Crisp mountain air. Wildlife/birds abound. Would love to ice climb the falls one year. Awesome photo ops.

Short and easy trail. Nice views.

Not ideal for trail running as of August 18th, 2018.
- It’s really overgrown with prickly brush about 3 miles in, so wear pants, or just hike and take it slow.
- Keep your eyes down for rattlesnakes— they can blend in with the dirt/boot tracks!

A quick hour to 1 1/2 hours depending upon speed, lunch break and scenic overlook breaks. Great for close to town and get outside hike.

Awesome hike with great views. There are 2 paths to get to the M- one straight up with a heart pounding 1/2 mile or 1.9 miles up easier switchbacks.

Plenty of room for horse trailer parking at the overflow parking area. Beautiful and well marked trail. Made it up to the 3.5 mile point, past the first top. Definitely worth an extra mile to get a better vantage point! The fall colors were breathtaking and plenty of room to pass other adventurers. Highly recommend this trail!

great for small kids

Bring fly pole for Graylings, also if want can try bottom fishing and get some cutthroats. Very fun hike and fishing!

Multi-purpose trail and lots of people out using it. If you are looking for an easy stroll and a double track for a group of people, this is a nice option.

An excellent hike/trail run if you’re looking for something quick!

Nice short hike. Picnic tables etc. at trailhead parking lot. Very pretty. Good hike for families and people who have difficulties on unimproved trails.

Great trail! I have four littles (ages 2-7) and it was PERFECT for them! We walked right along the creek and even found a few spots you could get done to the water. The kids had a blast walking across ‘the plank’ to get to the ‘rock island’ (water was about an inch or so deep!

Will definitely be back!

Beautiful views and forgiving trail.

Nice running trail.

This a beautiful canyon trail with a moderate climb on switchbacks until reaching to the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. I particularly enjoyed the views of Storm Castle from the west side of Gallatin Canyon. At first, I was confused why this trail said the "end" point was at 2.5 miles but it's because that's where the wilderness boundary technically starts. For the 5 miles out and back, you descend down into Hell Roaring canyon and eventually to the drainage. The lakes are much farther ahead on the trail. I'm not sure how many miles but I imagine it is too long for a day hike. This trail is probably popular for horseback riders as there is a shit ton of horse manure on the trail.

We loved this trail, biked it, it was a nice challenge going up, and fun going down. The lake is beautiful.

Very busy with bikes and dogs. If you want a quiet hike - this isn’t the place for you. It is a steady upward but easy climb - it begins to follow the river but then you are above it. Trees and the sound of water - but nothing spectacular. Nice gravel pathway makes it a favorite of bikers and strollers. Very busy - just ok.

Beautiful views of the valley, and nicely shaded!

This is a great short trail if you only go to the M, but I do like to go a little further and hit the summit. My phone records 65 flights of stairs to the M. If you go all the way up to the ridge it is a much harder yet enjoyable, less traveled hike and my phone records that as 178 flights. This is a extremely busy trail and parking can be an issue but hey it’s a Bozeman must! Enjoy

I love this hike. It is shaded a loop is always nice to do and I find it very relaxing. Doesn’t take long to get to the top and it is a great family hike doing this with my three young kids. Enjoy!

Nice hike. Continue on a bit further on to Heather Lake via the trail that leads right of Emerald Lake once you reach the lake. It's a bit more private and quiet for this trail which gets a ton of multi-use traffick.

Quick and steep enough to get the blood pumping!
