It’s a ok place to walk in the woods but other than that, not much to this one. I can see how it would be ok for trail running and biking but the trail is a bunch of switchbacks that nearly criss cross one another.

Switchback trail zigzags up to the peak. The view is amazing from the peak. Usually rather windy due to nothing being there to break the wind. Pretty much a 360deg view. Simply breathtaking. Will definitely hike again!

One word AMAZING, trail is great. nice hidden jewel.

Beautiful! Clearly marked trail.

My husband and I completed this trail on New Year's Day!
Parts of the trail were very muddy due to all of our recent rains, but still passable. The hike was perfect, not to easy, not too hard. The views at the top are well with the hike!
We spent quite a while exploring all of the mountain top possible, taking little trails that allowed various views!
I could spend all day up there!

A hidden gem! Views at the top are amazing for such a short hike (maybe 2 miles round trip). The gravel road up to the trailhead is narrow and can be difficult when you meet another car. We met several fellow hikers who brought their dogs and kids (as young as 4ish). The incline going up isn’t difficult and most of the rocks in the path are stable. The drive up from NC was nice too.

easy 5k if run straight to parking lot and trail is marked well for running ... little soggy but that's mother nature

I do this one regularly. Not too busy and a decent short hike.

DO THIS HIKE! Completely agree with all of the other reviews on this hike. It may not sound like much or get the same hype as some of the other hikes in the area but don't be fooled, buffalo mountain is an extraordinary hike. The hike itself is not difficult and I would certainly agree with its moderate rating. The views at the top are insanely beautiful and rival any other hikes in the area. Personally this is my favorite hike with a view in all of the area.

beautiful hike, a little muddy from the rain but not difficult. hiked with my 9 year old.

well marked, travelled it my a 9 year old

My favorite hike i’ve ever done. A must do if you live in the area. There is a porta potty at the tail head and a pretty spacious parking lot. Hike up was really easy and trail blazes were clearly marked. Awesome hike with a great view

I did two laps including the mountain bike trails and ended up with 8 miles and 1359’ elevation gain. Excellent for trail running!!

Trail, was good however parts need a little maintenance. Wouldn't recommend for eldary people as large amount of stream crossings had no bridges (even wide ones). Overall the trail was nice with no large inclines or declines, but not many vistas either. But probably wonderful in Fall or Spring.

Little muddy but good for MB

Great trail! The view was amazing and it was a nice place to sit and eat lunch. Make sure you have a map or GPS and be prepared to walk through some water!

Great views. Relatively easy trail.

I have wanted to hike this trail for over a year and finally got to tackle it today. It's rocky and muddy but manageable. The views of the mountains and the Linn Cove Viaduct are amazing! Well worth the trip.

We have been hiking this trail in November for several years now. it always serves up lovely late fall beauty. Also the Uwharrie mountains are visible this time of year.

A broad, paved, easy path and a nice way to get your exercise in outdoors.

Very fun trail with amazing views! In my groups opinion it wasn’t very hard like the reviewers say (and we aren’t in very well shape like most). Would recommend this trail to anyone.

Moderate climb, muddy with some slick rocks and roots and lots of traffic but 100% worth the amazing 360 degree views of the mountains. Parking was tight, dogs were friendly and people were courteous on the trail when it got a little narrow or tricky. One of the best trails on the parkway!

This one is close to home for me and part of the reason I chose it was this site says it’s a “...2.2 mile loop trail.”
Apparently I did not find the markings for said trail because I was 3.5 miles in and struggling to find my way back to the parking lot.
This trail system IS NOT marked well at all, and very confusing for novice hikers.
If I go back, I will bring my own marking device and turn around when I’m ready to go back.
Disappointed in the lack of trail markings.

Great Hike but very short and easy. Make sure to take a left over the bridge and not a right to get to the top.

A fair amount of climbing for a short trail but the trail condition is excellent and that makes the climb a breeze. The overviews are quite pretty and there's an excellent view of the Linn Viaduct. Not much parking so it's best to visit on weekdays.
