Only 2.5 miles up to the peak if you just want a good view (5mi round trip).

Not very challenging, but do not underestimate the stairs. My buddy was dying on the way back.

Kind of hard to find the entrance. A lot of interesting graffiti everywhere. Very green right now.

Really nice workout

Believe it or not the graffiti (an the unique graffiti house at the bottom of the trail) is the highlight of this trail. Make sure you do the loop clockwise. There is a gate (more like a break in the fence) to the left just at the beginning of the loop. Go through this gate a walk down lots of steep steps. Make a left at the bottom of the steps to continue along the trail. If you choose to do the loop in a counter clockwise fashion you may have trouble finding the steps to go back up (the entrance was not so clear and you have to climb up a ton of very steep stairs. I would definitely recommend doing the loop clockwise.

Nice hike! It had nice views, and you felt like you were getting a good workout as well! Recommend!

WARNING The entrance of the loop (not the starting of the whole route) is not obviously and can be easily missed!

I thought if I kept walking on the paved road I would eventually go into the loop and loop back, but that didn’t happen. Not until I walked 4 miles did I realized I was probably off the track because the while trail suppers to be 3.4 mile and I haven’t seen repeated scene.

When I walked back in darkness, I checked the map and saw two open parts on the fences under my flashlight, and there were staircases going down. I suppose that’s the loop... it’s really not obvious and clear, I’d suggest everyone to check their map if it’s their first time here, and maybe read the graffiti on road, though there were also misleading ones like “truck —>” and pointed to the cliff.

Other than that, it’s a easy, mostly-paved route, and the scenery is amazing!

I little disappointed it was overgrown. But the biggest disappointment was all the new construction for housing development.

Enjoyed great scenery of Simi Valley. It’s worth to come the top white cross if you are in Simi. 30 minutes walk to reach the top.

Great with lots of elevation. Most of the elevation is in the beginning half mile and the last half mile near the summit.

I will consider this hike as moderate. You go as far as you want we only hike 2 miles we have our 4 month baby so it was a little harder. The view is just amazing.

If you ever want to hike, get a small work out and explore? this is the place to be. Murphy's ranch and all it's history, you will find a cool trail that will lead you to a gate fance. you can either go down the stairs to the broken road, make a left and just follow the loop all the way around the site. 2 miles of wonderful views !
I recommend this hike at night time.
I did it last night with my group.

A very wide an open trail easy to find from the exit of the freeway. Sandy and rocky the whole way the trail winds and twists as it ascends through the mountains. The sounds of the highway eventually dropping away to pleasant silence. There is an interesting sandstone cave open on two ends early on the trail.
The landscape looks to be filled with scrub brush, boulders, and plenty of side trails branching off in all directions for those that want to explore features in the distance. Please exercise caution if you choose to do this. The main trail is easy to follow and is about as wide as a small street.
Not too hard but certainly a good workout the trail is fairly moderate with some steep sections and an extended steep section as the last push before the summit.
Well worth the trip with good views of Simi Valley, and the San Fernando Valley.
The trail seemed well traveled on the day I did it but was not so crowded that one could not enjoy peaceful solitude.
Will certainly tackle this trail again.

There was a bit of construction going on near the entrance of the trail since there are new houses being built, but the hike is really worth it. Lots of interesting scenery and without a doubt, that all the abandoned houses will have graffiti on them. Only thing I wished to see more was some trail markers, me and my friend had to go by trying to find spray painted arrows to try and find out where we wanted to go.

on Long Canyon Loop

This was a good hike/trail run. the greatest challenge was figuring out the loop. We saw many rabbits, birds, and a few beetles. We believe we heard a rattle snake toward the end of our loop. the start climb had a good elevation and got the heart pumping once you get through the first 12 minutes it was easy.

lots of shade in lush valley, and also good views on ridgetop

Its a brutal climb to the top with a mountain bike. But well worth it for the view and long descent. The down hill portion is fun, and a little chunky in some parts. But nothing too difficult. Not recommended for beginners though.

Easy access with reasonable amount of shade along the way. Big part of the trail is paved.

The rocky topography (boulders all around) distinguishes this trail from others in the L.A. area. Definitely a good workout-steady uphill climb to the peak (more intense toward the end). View from the peak is great, and the wind at the top offers a nice respite from the Simi Valley heat. You can also sign a trail log at the peak. Dogs will be fine for most of the hike, but will struggle with the final approach.

Very hot! Make sure you bring $5 exactly and a pen! Bring water!! Ok trail for dogs, but remember to bring water for them. Very narrow trail and would not recommended going by your self .

Great moderate workout on paved road above Chatsworth. Partly scenery of the city below.

Did this on Saturday morning, started at 6:30 am and to be honest with this heat we were looking for a nice challenging hike with a nice lake. NOT!! The pic on this app is deceiving to say the least. The RESERVOIR is behind a fence, so no refreshing water for us. The views were nice with a very difficult overgrown trail. I can see how people can go off trail without this app. Will not be back..

Nice hike, not too difficult but definitely a good workout. The trail is pretty narrow and there's lots of horse poop all along the 4+ miles. Had to keep stopping my dog from trying to eat it. Eew! My dog did get a tick on this hike so use bug spray and check yourself and your furry friends after.

This was a very nice trail. Would rate as easy-moderate. Definitely would suggest exploring each little treasure around during the hike. Adds more time but the graffiti art is very pretty.

Entrance is at the end of a construction road past a yellow gate once you leave the residential area. You’ll walk until you hit a fork- to the left there is a gate entrance and to the right is more paved road. Both loop around & bring you back to the beginning of the fork.
If you want a good butt workout, I would suggest going to the right. The end (left gate entrance) is a long flight of stairs that will definitely tire you out.

Terrific hike. Beautiful ocean views and enough difficulty to make you feel like you had a solid workout. Started at 8:30am on a Sunday and saw only 4 others on the hike. Serene.

This is a good moderate steady uphill climb with great views of Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley. Just note that when you get to the first fork, head left rather than right to continue up the trail. I had veered right and there are a few scrambly climbs and a viewpoint and beautiful plateau like area with wildflowers, but to continue the trail, go left.

There were a surprising number of people on the trail for a weekday evening and everyone was quite friendly and seemed like experienced because no one seemed taxed.

I started the hike in the evening around 6.20 and wanted to get back before dark so I did not make it all the way to the top, so I definitely am coming back. Surprisingly, other people were starting up the trail around 7.40 so I would love to hear what their experience was like starting the climb an hour before dark!

Lots of challenging (in a good way) steep up and down....beautiful views....keep an eye on your map so you don’t go off course, although mostly pretty clear which way to go. Definitely warrants the “Hard” rating but what a blast! Lots of sun if you don’t go early...we started about 11 and finished about 2....uphill and down hill take longer than flat!! Not for the faint hearted, but go for it!!
