Gorgeous, unparalleled views of crystal water, redwood giants, and snowy mountains during rolling ascents and descents. Dozens of stream crossings will delight and challenge the technical hiker during the rainy season. Hit snow about 4 miles in.

Snow gently fell in the alpine wilderness as we debated fording the largest rocky torrent yet. Four miles in, with wet boots and a leaky tent, we decided to turn. I don’t recommend this trail in January...it’s more like a creek. The first crossing was impassable - required some steep traversing to find a suitable spot. Subsequent crossings were mostly well-maintained, only one needed major work. The culverts on Canyon Creek Road are another story...

Enjoyed the easy flow trail

Good trail with a nice climb and great views along the way and at the top.

Hiked yesterday 1-12-19. Maybe 3-4 inches of snow at the top, no need for snow shoes. Always a good hike with sweet views of Shasta at the top (make sure to hike a few minutes past the official “end of trail” sign for better views to the north)

Great short hike! Nice break for kids!

Hopefully soon there will be a route where the public is encouraged to take in the beauty. I was in absolute awe

Fun little spot to take the kids to play on a warm day.

Fun day trip. The water is amazingly clear. Kids did great! Perfect family outing.

So close to town! Great spot to get away for a quick break. We took the Flanagan route this time and plan to go back soon and finish the Chamise side. Nice little get away for a couple hours without a long drive to make it happen.

What an amazing gift in our back yard. Can’t wait to go again! It was a long journey for my kids but the payoff was HUGE and well worth it. Felt like we could see for eternity.

More difficult than moderate but quite a nice view of Shasta at the top. Past bit is like walking up a giant staircase with big steps.

Unmaintained and filled with trash at old campsites. Trail stunk too...shame campers couldn't clean up after themselves. Trail is hard to find- as in there are plants and baby pines growing in middle of single track trails. I didn't make it all the way...conditions were unsavory and made it unenjoyable for a solo hiker. If someone who knows the way could make rock stacks or pointers-- it would help a lot!

Good hike, great trail, and just off of I-5 by 5min if you need to stretch your legs on an I5 road trip. Uphill for the first 2.4 miles then you can come back down on the same trail.

First time here for snowshoeing. Incredible views, pretty easy hike, we will be back for sure!

Snowshoed this trail today. Since it has been several days since the last snowfall, there were patches of melted snow. It was very scenic for most part but almost lost at last quarter of the trail. Since the lake is frozen, we couldn't tell where the trail is that we had to make a detour just to make sure we are avoiding the frozen water. We ended up at the campground parking but we somehow was able to get back on the trail.

Loved the waterfall!

Absolutely beautiful in the snow. I recommend wearing snow shoes towards the top. Is a little tough but worth it. Heart lake is covered in snow and unable to see but the view of Shasta and it’s surrounding mountains is incredible.

Great trail.

Beautiful hike. It’s fairly easy, took me about an 45 minutes up and 45 down, with my puppy stopping to sniff occasionally. Most of the views are in the half which is by the peak.

Nice little hike out to the caves. Skip Big Painted Cave and go straight for Symbol Bridge. No easy staircase down to them, but that is half the fun

Great easy walk

Hiked in September 2018. We were the first up the trail in the morning and saw lots of deer. Short and steep with lovely lakes at the end of the trail and glimpses of fumaroles through the trees.

Hiked in September 2018. Waterfalls were pretty but the trail is busy, so not the choice if you want some solitude. The railing and viewing areas at the end were a little too civilized for me.

Nice easy morning hike with beautiful weather. There’s some snow, so it’s a little slippery. Easy to see all the snow mountains nearby.

Fun trail. There’s lots of shade for most of the walk. The first portion of the walk is mostly forested, followed by views of the Shasta trinity alps.

It was pretty hard.
