Great short hike for the view! Takes about an hour or less to get to the summit. The snow was packed and very easy to walk on, no need for snow shoes or spikes. Our dog loved running freely and as always, all the hikers we met were super nice :)

Pretty solid ski trail here. Good for intermediate-advanced skiers. The trail is fairly wide compared to most backcountry ski trails, good for moderately spaced turns and not too steep. There’s a pretty neat cabin at the top, but it’s locked in winter. Lower down there’s some opportunity for glade skiing.

Really liked this hike! It was crowded when we started in the afternoon on a weekend. We had to park on the main road outside the parking lot and saw a ton of people on the trail. The hike was challenging but the views at the top were great!

Conquered this hike yesterday! Starts out as a moderate grade then becomes quite steep the last mile. Micro Spikes a must at the higher elevations. Beautiful views at the 2 outlooks near the summit.

What a fun little hike in the White Mountains! At the top, it’s pretty windy, but the view is gorgeous and there are a bunch of spots you can look out at. On the way up, there’s a small waterfall which was really pretty to see. No need for hiking boots if it’s not muddy. Perfectly fine in sneakers! If you’re looking for a good hike with a gorgeous view in the White Mountains, this is the place to be!

Great winter hike! I would suggest microspikes and poles for some of the steeper areas! The Fall itself was completely frozen when we went!

Wife and I climbed Mt Major this morning. A beautiful day to be outdoors. Temps were in the Low 40’s with sunshine. Wind made it a little chilly at the summit. Always remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather. Just poor choices in clothing:). Took us 1.5 hours up and 1 hour down. Recommend some sort of traction cleats or crampons as well as trekking poles. Approximately 6 to 8 inches of snow throughout most of the hike. A little slippery coming down the blue trail. All in all a very blessed day.

Nice hike. Get more view for the “work” you have to do.

Moderate hike with some steeper sections in the final third. There were ladders going over the steepest sections. The summit itself is entirely wooded with a small cairn. However, there is a nice outlook right before the summit itself. Most of the hike was icy/packed snow, so micro spikes are definitely recommended.

Great day hike and close to home.

Great day for a hike:) Mount Major did not disappoint!

One of the best short hikes in the Whites. The view at the end is unreal and almost looks like you're in a different part of the world. Poles would have helped coming down.

Hiked on 10/26/18–small amounts of snow and places of ice on higher elevations. Excellent hike—more moderate than hard for elevation gain. Many roots and some rocks. Take the Bemis trail to see two additional falls and walk the Falcon ridge cut off for an additional scenic view. Arethusa falls great to see amongst the ice. Part way along the Frankenstein cliff trail before the falcon ridge cut off you’ll be able to get an excellent view of Mt. Washington.

We were reminded today about proper preparation for hiking in the Whites. From the trailhead it looked like a nice crisp October day hiking thru the wet leaves. But soon we encountered crunchy snow and by the time we reached the cabin we were trudging thru snow about a foot deep. Wisely we skipped the south peak and backtracked. On the way down we came upon a beautiful freshly cut trail to the new parking lot on Dundee Road. Kudos to the trail builders from Jackson. Just a quick reminder to our fellow trekkers. Be prepared for the unexpected, and adjust your hike to the conditions.

Hiked the boulder loop and brook trail today. It was beautiful and the foot traffic was very light. weekdays seem to be an ideal time to hike Mt Major. The summit was freezing and windy, but the fall colors were still beautiful.

The trail starts and ends with a walk down a dirt road. Kind of boring. The uphill leg is a bit steep but the view at the top is worth it. Plenty of places up near the top to take a lunch break and just sit and enjoy the view. There is a shelter on the downhill side just before the turn on the map. Didn’t make it to chapel rock. Overalll good. Not too hard. But be aware of the rock climbs near the top sections. Use Caution if its slippery .

Went yesterday. Started out on Ethan Pond Trail and then went up Mt. Willey. Summit is a pile of rocks in the tree lines. There's was very little snow and ice on the ground. In the first 1.6 miles, lots of fallen leaves. The section after has the snow/ice. It was a good hike. Moderate in the beginning and steep near the top. You have to climb up roughly 6 man-made ladders. Because of snow and ice while climbing them.

It is pleasant hike with no surprises. Rocky path most of the way which I don’t like too much. The view is good but not great. But the trail head is at the beautiful train station, and 5 miles away from the Great Mt Washington Hotel , or other name now: so worth the trip.

Beautiful scenic hike offering steep terrain in areas and views that make it worth it.

Great running loop. Head up north ski trail across saddle and down south trail. Great western views of presidentials from south crag.

Awesome hike! Did this today with a family of 4 and my
6 month old golden retriever. Definitely a moderate trail for beginners, easy for more experienced hikers. Great views at the top. Dog friendly for sure.

Climbed this trail this morning, great views over Crawford Notch. Met a lot of nice people of all ages and several well behaved dogs. Afterwards we drove down to Willey House and walked the Saco River Trail (3.2 miles each way - unfortunately not yet on Alltrails database). Great day out in the Notch.

One of the best hikes in the Lake area. It is definitely more on the easy side, but it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes with minimal effort.

One of the easiest hikes I have ever done. Not much to see during the hike in terms of views, but amazing view at the top. Requires around an hour each way, so can get really crowded.

Well marked, easy hike with amazing views.

This is a great trail with breathtaking views at the top! It had rained the day before so the trail was covered with a little creek at the start but it was easy to cross and lots of fun. We took our little dog too and he had a great time, was more challenging for us than him!

We arrived to the head trail at 4pm, Oct 14, 2018 with 2 kids of 6 and 9 y.o and were determined to "race" with the Sun. It took us around 45mn to go up and 30mn to go down, the trail was rocky but not too hard. The view on top was beautiful in the Fall and we still had some sunlight which was great! The temperature dropped so fast so be sure to bring warm clothes. We were back to visit center around 6pm but please note that the restroom was closed by that time.

Loved the views and easiest enough for my almost four year old was able to climb! Valley more shaded in afternoon so I would hike it in morning to see it better.
