Took the south west trail parking was fine hiked to old Marlborough road trail was fine but nothing to see good walk with my wife wish we had taken the dogs.

Love this trail!! I did about 4 or 5 sunrise hikes here in July and I have nothing but good things to say about the trail and the view at the top!
There is a couple very very rocky sections but the majority is a nice dirt trail

Beautiful place. I took a left on to a single track trail after a few hundred feet of gravel trail. It paralleled the highlighted rout above and let to the same tower lookout. Then continued on the m&m trail to Hartford rez no 6 for a swim!

Challenging trail run for the distance. Feels like you’re running uphill the whole time. But great midway pond with beautiful dam and waterfall. Very muddy trail with lots of bugs

We (me, husband, and 4 year old son) hiked this on a Tuesday morning (around 10am). We found an AWESOME trail guide online for this at https://hikethehudsonvalley.com/hikes/kaaterskill-falls-ii-upper-trailhead/
This helped us decide on the Laurel House Rd parking lot vs the one where you have to walk around the side of the road. We started at the parking lot and went to the viewing platform to get our first look at the falls. It was empty! For about 1 minute. After that, we made our way down the trail that led to the falls. It was very steep and tricky in some spots because it was our 4 year old’s first time on such a steep/long hike. The trail was easy to navigate and towards the end there are actual steps built into the side. Definitely check out the top waterfall trail that you come to first because it is amazing! Once you’re down at the bottom you can really explore around at your own level which was great. Bring a swimsuit if the weather permits! I wish we had because the pool at the bottom is great and we ended up getting pretty wet just exploring on the rocks. At the bottom a lot of people are coming and going and towards the afternoon it definitely got more crowded. The waterfall was worth the hike back up too and there’s enough to take in at the bottom that you’re really able to rest up for the trip back. Great spot and I can’t wait to go back!!

Gorgeous falls that are a short walk down a well cared for single path. The view out from this foot of the Catskills is truly incredible.

nice fall to see when level of water is higher but the trail
is nice and not hard to see.

good hike but a few areas were really steep

Main parking lot was full. Had to park down the road. Kind of a dicey walk along the road to get to the trailhead. Trail was crowded and mostly vertical. Well maintained and beautiful waterfalls.

The trails are clearly marked on the white trail on the way up until you get close to the top, but you can easily follow the trail to the summit. If you continue down the white trail, following the loop rather than turning back, the markings almost disappear. The trail is still easy to follow but it's much smaller. Once you reach the Orange trail the markings are great.

Great views and a manageable hike

Short, relatively easy, enjoyable hike that was simply exhilarating! The heavy rain storms last night & into this morning transformed the creek into a thundering, magnificent torrent, crashing & tumbling down into the gorge below. Highly recommend!

Great easy hike for you and the family with beautiful waterfalls and rocks. I’m not sure why you have to pay 20 bucks for parking on the weekends when it’s a state and public park? And those porto John’s bathrooms are gross, you’d think with the money they collect from people and government they would have built a new restroom for the park. Other than that, it’s nice.

Short, fun hike up the mountain to the very scenic Heublein Tower. Definitely go early to avoid crowds and leave some time to explore the Heublein Tower complex.

Nice trail. We went up white and down orange to avoid a long steep downhill. Nice lookout at the peak and nearby. You can climb around the tight squeeze on the way down. Then it is a lovely walk in the woods.

Such a beautiful hike. I climbed up to the peak and it was definitely rewarding. I say “climbed” because I am short and it was rocky which meant I had to crawl up some rocky surfaces.

Amazing view, the way down is at first a bit steep, but then levels out (and is a bit boring).

I loved

23A is not the correct parking lot. That lot is dangerous, very small, and easy to get boxed in. Continuing up the hill on 23a, there are 4 more parking lots that are much larger, much safer, some even closer to the falls. There is a parking lot behind the Mountaintop Historical Society--take the rail trail to the falls area (also cool to check out what the area used to look like back in the day). Laurel-House Rd Parking---can hold up to 50 cars, has porta-johns, is wheelchair friendly and it's a .3 mi hike to the viewing platform, .7 to the pools. Schutt Rd, just past Laurel-House road---another huge lot with porta-johns and trail access to the falls. North South Lake campground---trail access to the falls but you might have to pay a cheap day-use fee (still better than walking down 23a, super sketchy).

Beautiful scenery, worth the climb to stand on top of Race Mountain to be treated to a breathtaking panoramic view. Very buggy. Met friendly hikers. Hiking poles a big help.

Love this trail! We started at Notch Visitor’s Center and went up to Mt Hitchcock before turning back. Lots of ups and downs, plus a tall staircase that seemingly appears out of nowhere. There are parts of the trail that seem almost enchanted. Bring plenty of water. Beautiful views.

Trail is dog friendly but there's a rod and gun club nearby with a range. You can easily hear the gun shots from the rec hunters and if your dog is skittish from thunder or fireworks, it may take some work to get your pup on the trails. Good hike overall though.

Incredibly crowded late on a Sunday morning in July, and the summit is VERY crowded with noisy families due to a parking area near the top. Views are nice but not spectacular, obscured by towers and tourists. There’s a lot of up and down, a very indirect way to the top (but a nice workout with a few overlooks). I took the left fork at the beginning of this loop so I summited near the end of this hike... I think I would have been too annoyed with the circuitous route to finish had I gone the other way!

Very nice hike and a good cardio workout. The view on the top was breathtaking!

Beautiful place. First quarter of a mile gets your heart pumping. The rest is a lovely stroll through the woods. Views are wonderful.

My husband and I hiked this trail with our 5 year old son and our toddler in a backpack carrier. The kids both did great. I’m really surprised this is rated as easy, but I guess it’s due to the length. I’d say it’s moderate and I hike often. You’ve got to definitely watch your step with all the rocks. I am so amazed at the amount of people we passed wearing flip flops or no shoes at all, you definitely need proper footwear to handle all the rocks,, they’re slippery. If you want to be able to take in the falls without a large crowd I’d suggest getting there very early in the morning. The walk to the trail head wasn’t ideal with kids along but it’s definitely manageable as long as you keep aware of cars. Overall, we enjoyed this hike and the falls a lot!

Beautiful trail! I followed it to the falls, the summit, and the continued down the AT to a pond, where I was completely alone to enjoy the water.

Great for anyone looking for a short day hike with a high reward. Such beautiful views will make you never want to leave.

This hike has always been a favorite with something for all levels. Lately they’ve made some changes to the trail to make it more accessible to beginners and families like fixing the boulder stairs and adding a deck to walk out on and view the falls.

It’s usually crowded, so come early or be careful walking on the road to the trail. Make sure you are fully in the shoulder of the road I’ve seen people get towed before!
