Nice loop

My favorite trial to do in the spring time where it’s lush and green. Its a nice and beautiful stroll to do with a group of friends to catch up on life and also get a quick workout in.

Fun little trail. Spring time is the best time to hike this trail, the hills are green and it's not too hot.
Saw a rattle snake right next to the trail so be careful where you step.

After a good rain, the hills are green and beautiful. I love the switchback trail uphill that offers some shade. The open space and views of the meadow are great on the other side. We had a group dog hike (www.connectingcanines.com) and everyone loved it. The end of the hike down along a narrow trial behind the houses offers some charm as well. To me, it’s a great length without being too little or too much for the average hiker.

Great For trail running!

Lovely trail when I want a quick hike close to home. Great views from the top. If you go in the morning the trail is mostly shaded by the mountain itself. Watch out for bikers! They're common, and come down the trail pretty fast.

More difficult than moderate, I would say, but a lot of fun if you're up for steep climbs and rugged trail. Bring extra water, and go in winter or spring if possible (due to heat). Start early. My brother and I are experienced hikers, we hiked this with no prior knowledge of it and were pleasantly exhausted and sore at the end of the day. We got some great photos at the top. It has become one of our favorite hikes together.

one of my favorites for riding after rain

Day after heavy rains but still hikeable. Definitely needed trekking poles for the slick muddy areas.
There’s no signs stating “Boney Mtn ➡️ this way”
Parts of the path was overgrown and single track but still obvious where the direction of the trail.
It’s between moderate and difficult, I think.
The views are worth it!

Challenging areas of the trail leading to amazing views!

One of a number of favorites

Great Hike to work up a sweat and get your blood pumping. I would rate this a moderate hike up to the Monument.

beautiful landscape views from atop the ridges

Challenging hike. More strenuous then moderate.

Lots of clean trails amazing views even a couple picnic places that on the hike. Highly recommend it

Fun hike. The last 1/2 mile was too rocky for me to complete.

Challenging and beautiful view

Nice long hike. Free parking.

Challenging hike for sure, starts off easy enough with a gradual ascent and descent and there is a detour to a waterfall. After the Danielson monument the terrain gets steep at times but there are sections with ruts, loose rocks and overhanging debris. Bring plenty of water, a long sleeve shirt and pants, and also a sweater because near the top it can get a little chilly. If not for the ruts I would have given this 5 stars.

Great way to spend a couple of hours. You are rewarded at the top with beautiful views.

great hike with my kids!

Great easy hike and fantastic view once you reach the top.... Great views on the way up as well.

The trail is very rutted due to the wet 2016/2017 winter. It's a quad buster on the climb and knee banger on the descent. For the usually tame Santa Monicas, it provides a very respectable challenge.

Easy trail up to Danielson Ranch, but after that you should be prepared to scramble. The portion above the Ranch is not for novices attempting their first long hike. Bring at least 2 liters of water, you'll need it. Be advised that the trail above Danielson Ranch is deeply rutted in parts, and apparently not maintained. Bring your poles - you'll need them for the return to avoid falls.

Having said all that, if you are an experienced hiker, it's an excellent hike because of the challenging climbs -- you'll get a great workout.

Did this as an out and back instead of a loop. As others have said, great workout & good view. Not busy at all even on a Sunday afternoon. Bring water & sunscreen.

Most of the trail is a service road, so the difficulty level should be moderate, instead of hard. Shade is very rare.

It's scenic, but it's about being difficult more than it's about sight-seeing. Only for people with solid mental fortitude and a touch of sadism. Bring more water than you think you need and lots of sunscreen. Personally, I loved this hike. I usually keep a fast clip and rarely take breaks on the trail - Boney humbled me a tiny bit.
