Beware, the direction GPS coordinates are incorrect, it led me to a commercial property behind the actual parking lot.

Nice trial, went up Spring Ridge trail and Hamm Gulch on the way back. Spring Ridge is exposed but Hamm Gulch is partly shaded. It wasn’t muddy in spite of the recent rain, so this is a great trail for winter hiking.

Long distance, moderately difficult with some good views.

A little taxing on the knees going down, but a good afternoon hike altogether!

Great place for hiking, biking etc. Highly recommend to those who want a good hike within San Jose without commuting.

A beautiful hike with rewarding views. The climb up definitely feels a bit harder than moderate but it’s a much easier return. As some have noted, coming back down all the stairs and downward train can be a little rough on the joints. I’d mark it a 5-star trail if it had more regular alternation between the up and downhills.

If you’re not up for the full hike, within the first mile you’ll have seen most of the prettier landscape.

Nice views, lots of rocks to hike over, moderate hike.

Lots of uphill, but a gorgeous trail through the forest, and very quiet on the Monday we went. Highly recommend.

As others have said, it's definitely a steep climb, and I was surprised this hike was labeled as moderate (I couldn't finish and turned back around about halfway through); that said, it's one of the most beautiful hikes I've ever done in the Bay Area -- from the minute you start out you're surrounded by stunning scenery, and every few feet is another gorgeous spot to rest and breathe in the incredible atmosphere. I went fairly early (9:30am) and the trail was really quiet and empty -- on the way out around 11:30 I passed a ton of groups, so I suspect afternoons there are quite crowded. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a moderate fitness level, provided you bring lots of water and are prepared to take a lot of breaks!

This trail has great views! It is worth walking uphill!!!

Loved this trail that we recently hiked with kids. A bit crowded but with family it worked great and was a good work-out as well.

Nice climb but no way is it 2.7 miles total. Closer to 5-6 miles up and back. Beautiful and green. Water just trickling right now. Need rain!

fun trail under 3 miles but has a decent incline to make up for it. good if you're interested in a quick one. not very crowded after 10:00am. dog friendly.

Nice hike. But, only some of it was shaded and watch out for the bikers.

Fun little loop to run

Need better trail markings. No bathrooms, but porta potties.

I love this hike. Great exercise even if you do half and just walk up to slyline and back.
My favorite time to hike is after the first rain. The smells and the trees are breathtaking.

Fun for hiking. 5 stars if having a great view for photos.

Clockwise helps on to get the sun when climbing up, great vegetation and great views from the top!

It is a great hike during warm days. Nice balance of shade and open trails. Views at the top are incredible. If you make the hamms gulch trail (left side of loop) turn first, the incline is gradual and not steep enough ( at least for me). If you want to get straight incline on the beginning of your hike, make the turn at spring ridge trail first (right side of loop). The trail at Spring side is good for running uphill and downhill. There’s a lot of parking which I like but google maps brought me to the sequoia’s so had to turn and find the right parking lot. It is well marked in the beginning of the trail but got a little confusing at the top.

Really enjoyed this hike today - even though it was pretty warm! It begins in the madrone forest so stays cool. And then it just goes up. I turned around at mile 5 but would say from mike 3-4.5 was the most interesting! Views and geology are amazing. Wish I’d brought my binoculars as there were many birds in the morning.
Also note that app says the trail
Is 6 miles to the end but the trail markers and map say it’s 8 miles.

Hiked this in September. We turned around shortly after the 4 mile marker because of the time . A good portion of the hike is wooded so a lot of shade . It opens up to a meadow area and the trail has a continuous incline in elevation. The views of the valley are awesome and although we were there on a Saturday morning, there was very little traffic on the trail. A few runners and a handful of other fellow hikers . Great trail!

Did this hike with my dog today. Good work out, and it was pretty along the way though not the MOST interesting. The views at the top are a nice prize. Way more shade on the southern side of the loop. Probably saw 6 people the whole time.

A nice walk up and down, with great views from the top.

Always a nice hike, mostly shaded on the way up Hamm’s Gulch. (You can go back down the same way if it’s hot to stay on the mostly shaded trail.

One of our favorite hikes, we do it every time we visit the area.

Agree with all the other reviews that the views of the lake are beautiful. Would recommend reversing the direction to end along the lake which would provide the best for last.
