Amazing petrified forest. Not to be missed.
This is a beautiful trail. However, for me and my barefoot gaited horses, I can't go fast enough and this makes my older bones ache.
The bridge has fallen according to the NPS workers, it must have happened right after Christmas. Still a good hike though!
MAtFun moderate hike with little bouts of elevation. I went counterclockwise and enjoyed the scenic views towards the end of hike.
Beautiful lake!
it's definitely hard to stay on trail, my recording won't even verify as registered because I veered off too much. the guide provides beta photos but not distances. at .7/.8 miles, follow the rocky wash until it should out into a plain. the square rock is much further than this so don't start following the subsequent directions until you walk fast enough across the plain.
This trail was so much fun. It will be impossible to navigate this without the printed directions from either the website or from the visitors center. The end isn't the most spectacular but the scenes along the route and getting away from the crowd are great.
A good trail, even in the snow. We went counter-clockwise which was perfect bc we did the switchbacks going up and the sloping, wider trail going down. Took a plastic sled & the kids had some good runs on the hills back down.
It’s much less about the destination and more about the journey with this one. It’s just cool to appreciate all the details of the surrounding areas that make the stellar view from up top. No real trail here (except following the old riverbed for a bit, crazy to think that place was once wet and lush), and you may run into some hills that are dead ends. That’s half the fun! Once you’ve huffed and puffed your way back up the hill, go back to the view point and revel in the scenery of the lands you covered. Hands down my favorite part of the park.
Cute, simple little trail that is mostly paved and has a beautiful view. Very close to town and we loved the informational markers that gave fun facts about the history of the area and the native plant life.
Beautiful! Windy day, no water. That uphill back is no joke.
Super easy short hiking trail. A lot of dogs and bikes, happy to see so many enjoying the outdoors. Beautiful views and many break off trails.
Most definitely download the trail beforehand. There are so many washes that you can easily get off trail. The colors of the painted desert are amazing and worth the hike. The petrified trees are incredible and all over. We hiked clockwise which made our return from the onyx bridge much easier. The onyx bridge is underwhelming but the hike was great. Met up with a couple from Boston and had some great conversation. It was perfect weather and the hike up at the end was a challenge. No shade at all so wear sunscreen and/or a hat. Sandy and rocky so wear good hiking shoes.
Got completely lost.. for about an hour I was wandering without cell signal so I couldn’t figure out where the loop connected back to the trail. I had to back track and follow the trail i’d already taken on the first half of the loop to make it back. I was extremely scared. make sure you have a GPS type locator because you will lose service and lose the trail on the app.
Pretty nice. Not too cold as I thought it would be. Only went in 2 miles and back.
Great trail for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Both easy and moderate routes
Some rocky areas. Easy to loose the trail in the area that’s being cleared. Did this on Saturday with my husband & friends. A nice hike on a winter day on the mountain.
Great hike! We saw elk. Trail is a bit hard to follow where the logging is going on. Otherwise, awesome time!
