Hiking

got started at about 8 AM...a bit of an incline in the beginning with some icy patches. a snow mass has blown over the trail but there is a pathway over it...no biggie. I wore regular hiking shoes and it was ok on the way up. on the way down spikes and/or poles would've been helpful. trail has hard packed snow that is very uneven in spots and covered by ice underneath...so if you have wonky knees like me, be weary of where you step. overall it was a nice hike on a beautiful day. we heard the creek pretty much the whole way, with birds and didnt pass anyone until we were on our way down and nearly finished. probably wouldnt do it again, but it's a nice hike that's walkable from center of telluride. mostly shade but some sunny areas. beautiful scenes of the trees and mountains

HikingGreat!

Such a beautiful hike!! There was packed snow, in the early stages of melting, and it made for an easy trek. Our 8 & 11 yo girls made it without a problem. Definitely recommend this hike!

April 2021 - falls still frozen and trail is a no go due to avalanche risks. Would’ve been good otherwise

We didn’t do the whole hike due to time constraints and slushy conditions, but very pretty!

Great!

This is a really nice hike however I don't think it's anything spectacular. It's definitely still worth your time. The frozen waterfall is pretty cool.

wet slushy possible avalanche conditions. Nice long wide trail when conditions are good. Winter hiking it's basically a long catwalk. Be mindful of returning back country riders when climbing uphill. There's a water source about a mile or so in.

HikingGreat!

I’ve been hiking for 2 years now, and this was my first trail. I started my hiker life with this trail and 2 years later here I’m to tell you this still my favorite trail of all. . I’m planing on coming back here but this time I want to camp more days. . I only camp for 2 days, and I swear I wanted to stay forever in this place. . Resumen, DO IT, you won’t regret it

Spikes were perfect-until right before the falls, where you’ll find yourself waist-deep! Bluebird day!

This was our dream hike. We did this late July and it was perfect. You hike through layers of the forest with beautiful surprises along the way. Would love to do this one again and camp overnight. Can’t imagine a better hike in Colorado.

Hiked on February 7th and it was a beautiful hike. Not many people especially when getting to the end of the trail. I parked downtown and walked to the trailhead and then saw the frozen falls and turned around. I did bring ice cleats just so I could walk normally on packed snow but they really were not needed. Would have been totally fine without them! Only a couple skiers since it was Sunday afternoon when I went. Also NO PARKING FEE on Sundays which is nice!

SnowshoeingGreat!Snow

Hiked on Jan. 30th. As previously stated, packed snow at the beginning but I transitioned to snowshoes. Started around 10am. Lightly flurrying. I never saw any snowshowers but a few hikers. Lots of snowboarders and skiers coming down so keep an eye out for them. Awesome snow to snowshoe in. Beautiful hike.

the actual trail to the falls is a right turn off the road and goes through the woods. the map on all trails shows the switchback route which is much longer. it cuts out much of the switchbacks. it's actually a nice hike. mainly up hill and well marked. the trail was closed for winter due to avalanche danger but we didnt see the sign until on the way out. oops! it's passable in proper winter hiking boots. didn't need snow shoes. using a hiking poll is advised especially for the hike down. took about 2 hours round trip. the falls frozen were unreal.

Awesome, easy hike that has breathtaking views. You'll need either snowshoes or spikes. If you are planning to go all the way up to the top, I'd bring snowshoes.

The trail is easy to do as long as you have micro spikes or snow shoes. The frozen Falls are epic.

Actual trail was closed for avalanche danger when we went in January, had to go up road which makes it less family friendly. Much harder with kiddos, keep that in mind for winter hiking!
