Worth the view! but definitely tough. This was 8.2 miles total and pretty steep for most of it. Going back down is easy but I would say this is more hard then Moderate.

Great hike with a solid amount of elevation gain. The hike is 8 miles round trip with 2800 feet of elevation gain. You start winding your way through beautiful forest and emerge to views of Sierra at Tahoe (a local ski resort). After crawling up a steep section the trees begin to thin and eventually you emerge to unbelievable views. You can see more lakes and mountains than you will know what to do with. Have fun and be safe. This is a nice trail all the way to the top, not too rocky and lots of good footing.

this was an easy well maintained trail. Enjoyed lunch while cooling off in one of the many fresh water holes

Great trail, however this is 4.1 miles each way (value from iWatch plus two trail guides) not the 6.5 stated here!

I've done this hike twice in the last few years and the one thing I hate is that hike it a tad bit longer then main article here indicates. From top to bottom, this is at least 5 mile each way hike. The first I attempted it, I did it too late in the day and made it up about 4/5th of the way, but turned around as I was running out of water and light (no flashlight on me). The second time around I left early in the day and made it up in the early mid afternoon. The views are some of the very best. On the downside, their were I think 3-4 fires going on in that region so the views were also kind of spoiled too by a bit of haze. Oh well. Maybe next time?

Uphill hike all the way to the tower but sooo worth it for the views. It was extremely windy, and that made the shaded areas chilly. My dog did great on the hike up but once we hit the stairs to the tower, I felt is was extremely unsafe for her. We made it up to the third set of stairs with me white knuckling my grip on her harness before I had a bit of anxiety at the sketchiness of the stairs and then decided to carry her back down. The stairs are somewhat wide gapped with absolutely no protection around the side rails and it is a sheer drop down. My friend ended up staying with my pup so I could make it to the top by myself. And I did, but with shaky knees to be honest. If you’re afraid of heights, skip the tower itself. But the view from the tower itself is breathtaking !!!!!

Beautiful hike this time of the year. The weather was great and helped with the steady climb to the top. Enjoyed it a lot ! Short and moderate hike.

nice moderate hike even though it says no dogs the dogs were everywhere very slippery near falls from mist nice hike

This is my favorite one. Hiked 5 times in last two months. Beautiful views from the ridge.

Just did this hike today and was nice little hike. Only about 5 miles. Falls was beautiful. No people and free parking. Dirt road driving is rough so take proper vehicle.

Moderate My Ass!

We hiked this last April and it was gorgeous. At the time lots of poison oak and the trails were washed out on lower section.

Like many have said there are trees down on both sides of the loop, not to hard to climb over though. On the lower sections how ever one of the gorges that had a small stream running across that path got blocked debris and diverted the street down along the trail. So roughly 15 yards or so of the trail is washed out. In addition to some other erosion further along at another point that makes the trail very narrow on a pretty steep hill. If you’re thinking of doing the loop it’s advisable that you stay on the upper part.
Took about four hours to complete. Beautiful view at the end and along the way.

Decent hike. Not really worth the $10 parking fee. Most of the hike is in the shade. Lots of people

Wonderful trail with a beautiful view. It is long and is strenuous at parts. There are quite a few areas with downed trees. It took 4.5 hours with my 9 year old.

Wonderful hike. I did it back in April with my husband and it was difficult at the stair part. My second time doing it on Sunday with a girlfriend. Still hard, but better (since I have more hikes in) Encountered a rattlesnake at the top. But made it

amazing hike...the views from the tower are just beautiful. steady climb to get there but not to bad. i would say depending on your dog whether it would be comfortable for them or not up the stairs. mine made it fine but i held her harness to help her. this has to be my favorite hike for the views alone. can't wait to do it again.

Took me 4 hours to complete, counting my little break I took on the lookout by the falls. Overall, the trail loop is very pretty, nicely shaded, and well cut, however, for about half of the west section of the loop it was terribly overgrown and not well marked. The lack of trail at one point and even less markings made me a little disoriented for the last quarter of the west side of the loop. But once I got through that by climbing logs and pushing/cutting a whole bunch of branches, the falls and the eastern part of the loop back made it all worth it:)
Bring bug spray, I was also being followed by a little cloud of gnats for a lot of the time

Great work out in a short distance.

Beautiful hike. I went counter clockwise. Practically all downhill to the falls with a slight grade on the way back. The view of Feather Falls and the ravine is more than worth the hike.

Beautiful vistas, especially from the top of the fire tower! A steady climb the whole way up, but not horrible. We even had a very light snow shower on the way back down. One of my new favorite hikes!

I love this place it’s cool

One of my faves. Short and sassy!

Tuesday, October 2, 2018: weather was supposed to be cool and possibly rainy- not so. The reviews are correct that it gets hot along the trail, although there was quite a bit of shade. It isn't a hike I'd like to do in the summer months; there are plenty of swimming holes in Northern CA closer to my home. It's more of a walk than a hike anyway as there were only a few uphills, etc. Deer, bear, and maybe cougar tracks seen in the dirt trail. The road in was gravel and washboard but didn't need 4 wheel drive. I was fine in my Fiesta. Did not see anyone else along the trail. 1 hour in, 1 hour out. Overall a fun walk and a lovely day.

Deffinetely hard one, especially if you don't have experience. I did it as suggested, going counter clockwise. Will be even harder during the summer, since there is no shade half of the way. Hiking will take you around 3 hours with some stops for pics and breaks. Btw i did the descending part at night 7-925pm.

Done this hike twice now and it’s awesome! I recommend going clockwise around the loop (with the switchbacks at the end) so that you can see the lake for longer while you’re on the ridge. Go early if you can since it’s hot and can get crowded.

Beautiful hike. Wouldn’t recommend bringing big dogs, the stairs are pretty sketchy for them to get up. Uphill the whole way but it goes by quick. Great views.

SEPTEMBER/2018: Awesome day to hit this trail. The weather was perfect and it wasn’t as crowded like the last time. It’s about one and a half hours out/in trip. The waterfall/dam was so beautiful and there were plenty of rainbows.
